I just switched from V7.5 to V8.0 and have been disappointed in several ways:
1) While 7.5 was also prone to lockups, V8.0 reliably crashes two of my three computers during the Assemble Project process after adding sound tracks to a video slide project. My third computer also got an error message even though the project burned to completion. However, t  he finished DVD had only three of the five sound tracks I added, with blank audio spaces for where the missing tracks were supposed to be. My three computers are a) a 3500 AMD dual core running on a K8N NEO4 motherboard, b) a Compaq Presario 3000, and c) a AMD 2500 running on a Asus A7N8X motherboard (this my backup unit, and it worked while the others crashed). The memory for each was respectively 2gb, 512mb, and 512mb. On the Compaq Presario (a laptop) I also didn't get the menu presets to load into the project in order to edit the menu. Presumably this was because the video card on the motherboard is inferior.
2) So, thinking I was going to avoid the blank audio problem by joining the various tracks into one, I discovered that the Audio editor no longer supports joining two tracks or more into a single track. The 7.5 editor allowed you to see several tracks and join them, but even if I control click (highlight) all my tracks in V8.0 before invoking the editor, only the first track appears. Bummer!
The only feature worthwhile in 8.0 is the zoom/pan animation of the slides. The best solution for me seems to be that I run 7.5 on one machine so I can do my sound editing, then burn the project on my backup computer.
Any words of wisdom, anybody? Is 9.0 any better? Thanks,
Axel
