Sounds like you are not capturing to DV AVI.  If you are capturing to MPEG 2 or DivX,  most likely the mobile Pentium just isn't fast enough to do that in REAL TIME - even at 2Ghz.
Phenom X4 965 3.4Ghz, 4gig DDR3, LG 47" 3D TV, Hitachi 1TB HD, Seagate 500GB, LiteOn iHBS112 Bluray, TSSTCorp SH-222A DVD, ATI HD3300 IGP, VIA HiDef audio with Logitech Z5500 THX certified 5.1 speakers, Epson 4490 scanner, Canon 9000Pro MarkII printer, Sharp AL1551CS laser printer/copier, Sony TRV740 8mm digital, Canon HV20 HDV camcorder and Fuji S7000 for still photos, Win7 Home Premium

It does the same thing wether it is set to DVI or MPEG.  also, version 6 captures this way just fine.  Version 6 just can't seem to record the disck with the video and audio in sync.  I was able to create the video I needed using the captured video from version 6 then using version 9 to create the disk.  However, I had problems with that to.  gave me an error when it tried to create the menus.  Finally I just created a disk with no menus and it worked.  12+ hrs for something that should have taken 2 at best.

Seems I spokr too soon, maybe last night was just luck but today it stops at 1 min 3 sec all the time, windows movie maker works fine. I've tried all the different settings and no change.

I hate to admit on this forum that I am much more of a Mac user then a windows user but I have had a lot of previous experience with devices that convert from other signals into Firewire (1394).  All of that experience has been touch-and-go, meaning some apps like them, others dont.
Just for a test try capturing to MPEG 2 (unless your system just cant work that fast) and if worse comes to worse, just import with Windows Movie Maker and then bring your DV AVI file over to EMC 9 and do whatever you want with it.

I downloaded EMC 9 and find I get the same problem, capture stops after about a minute, regardless of 'Quality' or whether you specify capture all or for a time period. Raised a ticket with support.

The camcorder is a Sony DCR-TRV355E PAL connected using firewire. I ordered Easy Media Creator 9 Suite to get full function over that which this PC came with. I have had no problems capturing video from this camcorder using Sonic DigitalMedia Plus v7, specifically Sonic MyDVD, MyDYD Plus V6.1.3.

I tried setting the capture length to less than a minute and that worked - so I guess someone probably screwed up on some max time download, setting this to 1 minute rather than, say, 1 day?

This problem doesn't happen to everyone so it couldnt be "some max time download" problem.
How much hard drive space do you have?
Can you import with Windows Movie Maker?

I have been backing up several tape and all was working fine.  Now mine stops after 1:03 each time I try to copy the tape to my computer.  I went back and looked through my tapes and tried others.  They all work except one brand.  The one I am having trouble with is a TDK 8mm HG Ultimate 120.  I have a Sony DCR-TRV350 handy cam.  Not sure why the tape would have anything to do with it.

Hmm, thats an interesting detail.  Thanks for adding it. It must have to do with some data stored on that particular tape, I dont know if all tapes from that brand would have that issue, but maybe something about the way the tape was created or was recorded to is confusing our application.

Just adding my 2 cents:  I too am having the exact problem with importing.  However the thing I wanted to add was that I notice that the import doesn't just stop, instead the camcorder pauses after 1:03 min.  IMO, the camera is getting a signal from the software to pause it.   There seem to be quite a few people experiencing this problem, and so far no fix that works for me.

I have a Sony TRV350 w/ firewire, an HP AMD Athalon 64x2 4200+, 2 gigs of ram, and over 100 gigs of free space. (Also up to date on all drivers and DX9) Personally, I can't see how this problem is related to video card or brand of tape, etc.  Maybe the common problem is the Sony camera.  This camera is 3+ years old, so I would have suspected that EMC9 whould have tested it enough.

I'm also upset that I have experienced a DVD burning issue that EMC9 crashes on, but yet works with shareware software when I burn an image disk.  Point being, I'm getting quite upset that I'm having these serious issues and I can't accomplish the simple things I bought the software for.  I'm getting the feeling that EMC9 didn't get enough testing before it shipped!  (end of rant)

Don't think so... I have the Sony TRV740 - about 5 yr old - and haven't had a problem capturing via firewire with any application with three different computers.  There must be something else in common between all of those reporting this problem, but I've certainly not had any trouble capturing with EMC 8 or 9.

I'm having the same issue as everyone else.

Here is my config:
- single Firewire port on my Winbook C120
- firewire cable is connected between my Canon ZR45 and laptop
- Canon ZR45 DV is connected to my TV
- set format to MPEG and AVI with same results

This config worked perfectly using EMC8 up until last week when I upgraded to EMC9.

When I ran "Ask Roxann" and queried video capture issues I came away with very disappointing results.

Roxann says:
This is a known issue with Canon camcorders with Firewire. If you are VR Streaming, capture preview will freeze and end. This happens with some Canon camcorders when two or more Firewire devices are connected to the same card.

I have on a single Firewire device connected.

This doesn't make sense to me since I had no problem with EMC8 or movie maker or Video Explosion Deluxe 1.5.

I looked for a KB that lists supported devices and found one [KB ID Number: 000067CR] but I didn't find my DV cam listed. I know from experience that non supported devices will work [ie Sony TRV740 is also not on the supported list] but Roxio TS can always say "we don't support it...sorry".

There has to be some workaround for this.

Has anyone contacted Roxio TS and resported this issue?
