ive been wrestling with emc 8 all day and have had to manually fix/compromise on issues emc 7 handled fine. now it's the transitions between panels. if i add about 10 simple ones (say dissolves) only about 5 would actually register in the preview and final encode. i see all 10 i set between panels, and all of their durations are valid. but some show, some dont, what the heck? this problem surfaces on both new productions and saved ones from my emc 7.
because of some patch package error, i wasnt able to update from the cd's version to 8.05. is the solution there?
Some transitions not showing

V 8 is much different from a technical standpoint thean V 7, so opening V7 projects in V 8 can cause problems similar to what you are seeing. The projects are not going to be completely interchangeable, especially if you use any overlays, text effects and transitions. They do not contain all of the same ones, and they have different "properties" in the different versions. If you want to try to bring V 7 projects into V 8 to work on in there, I suggest you first open them in v7, remove transitions, overlays, etc, save as a new project name, then it should open in v8 and you can add those effects back using v8's choices.
Also the way V 8 processes and renders projects is much different than V 7. It is much more dependant on the CPU and Video that you have. I don't see where you have listed any of your system specs in your posts to this point, so it's guess work on our part, but I would suspect your video card/chip either needs to be updated to the latest drivers or is not fully DirectX 9c compatible. You also need to make sure that DirectX is updated to the latest 9c.
Forgot this: As to the patch, it may not even apply to the version you have. It was only for those cd's that were in the initial shipment to retailers. If you open up Creator Classic, MyDVD, Videowave, or disc Copier, then go to the Help -> About menu, if the build 3 showing starts with 805 then you are already on the latest version.

the transitions are missing in both old productions AND new EMC 8 ones. my version is 800 and will not update to 805 due to the patch package error. ill update all my video drivers and directx as you suggested, but highly doubt it will resolve this. it looks too much like a program bug. right now my 2 problems with emc 8 are:
1- some transitions refuse to show
2- .5 seconds of raw video are cut off from the beginning and end of each source (no effects, just plain source). all of them were originally encoded in huffyuv lossless codec.
system spec: p4 2ghz, 512mb dual channel, nvidia ti4200, xp sp2

I doubt if a update patch will help you. You have a "very old" video card (reviewed in 2002) with only 64MB of memory. I am sure it is not compatible with Directx 9c since its only compatible with DirectX 8.

i cant believe this but i finally have some good news to report. you guys were right about one thing, but a bit off on another... as suggested, i updated my video drivers and voila, the transitions all started working. thats one problem solved. but videowave (emc 8 version) still kept chopping off my raws at the beginning at ends by some .2 to .5 seconds. again, these are plain video clips with no effects or anything program related. you ought to be able to use them universally in any program and they should hold the same. to fix this, i reinstalled emc 7 and loaded all of them to the end of the production, then saved, then opened it up with emc 8. tada, all of them run their full lengths now. as long as i dont remove them from the production i can edit with then later. this is kind of proof that it's an emc 8 bug.
in any case, i can finally move forward now, and do appreciate your advice. to its credit videowave 8 does handle my huffyduvs much better than 7. in 7 if you have over eight clips in the panels, they can no longer run in the preview (50mb per 5 second clip, the production can go over 10gb). emc 8 takes them all and keeps chugging along. i make amv's (anime music videos) as a hobby, all quality and timing intensive, and cant afford adobe premiere so im stuck with this. and it's finally working!
on a side note i wish the media selector were still a permanent fixture in the main window. instead they tucked it away in a seperate option and made the preview bigger. i guess most people would prefer it like this, but anyway, one cant have everything. thanks again.

Glad to hear you made some progress, and that some of our suggestions helped.
And thanks for posting that work around you came up with for those files, it's bound to help someone else.
