EMC9 Will Not Install With Sonic CinePlayer Surround

I have not been using the CinePlayer Surround for a long time because it can not play DVD-A, so instead I use one of the few players that will handle this format. Thus I did not lose anything I now need. The last time I checked the CinePlayer, it was working. If this happens to someone else who uses the Sonic CinePlayer Surround, they may not be very happy.
The add/remove still will not delete the Sonic CinePlayer Surround, although all files are now gone. It now just tells you it can't find CinePlayer(which is now not there) but it still will not let you remove the add/remove entry for CinePlayer. This same thing sometimes happens when you have removed programs. This usually can be taken care of by going into the registry with regedit and going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ . This location usually contains a key for everything that can be uninstalled. In most cases there is a name. However there was no name for the CinePlayer there. There are also many entries here with just hex numbers and no name. Using the registry edit menu and selecting search finally allowed me to find the CinePlayer and things related to it in a hex file without name. Deleting this probably will remove the CinePlayer from the add/remove menu. I may not do this for a while, since the add/remove entry for the now long gone CinePlayer is causing no harm that I have yet detected. You should know what you are doing, backup the registry, and be very careful if you do this sort of thing at the registry. Quite a few people have messed up the registry so much that they had to clean reinstall Windows and their programs.

Whilst it is laborious, if you click on the keys with CLSID names (e.g. {18D10072035C4515918F7E37EAFAACFC}, then in the right pane of regedit, you will find the name as it appears in add/remove (assuming the key does: not all do as some are subsidiary uninstall directions for components of apps for which the main key does have an entry in add/remove). Look for a value called DisplayName.
Even if it is one that does not appear in add/remove, there is usually enough information in other values to give you a clue what sofware the key relates to.

The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility was very easy to used and resolved the problem. Thanks.

I solved the problem with another method suggested just before your post. However I am keeping a copy of your instructions in case I have other problems with add/remove. With Microsoft, you can never have too many methods on hand. As they say, there usually are many ways to do something on Microsoft products, all or none of which may work in a specific case.
