I thought I had solved my problem of stopping heavy disk crunching at start up by turning off Watch Folder as well as taking a cue from the previous post about placing several RX9 startup services in Manual mode, but no luck. I have to wait several minutes for the process to end. Is there any way to stop RX9 from listing files in Quick View or clearing that list completely? The disk churning really slows done my system and I'm not using the files which Quick View displays.

Thanks
Walt

I had no clue what your were talking about with the word RX9, until I went back and read your past posts.  It would benefit you if you used the correct terminology for the software which is commonly know as EMC 9.  You disk crunching sounds to me like it is a dying hardware issue.  Been there, myself.

The disk crunching I refer to is when I start EMC9. With quick view open, and in Audio CD mode, there is a green status bar indicating Quick Find is Loading...... It takes several minutes to finish, and when complete, lists artists and songs. I'm trying to determine how to stop that search and load effort at start up. My hardware is fine, EMC is the culprit.

If you're certain that hardware is not the issue, read this thread.

What I'd do is quit using the apps from the Home screen and use the apps from the Start menu instead. They tend to work better with more options and I've never seen Quick Find using them.

I've read that thread and changed all the services to Manual, but it doesn't change the QuickView Loading process that starts up when I start EMC9. A real resource hog that runs several minutes. I've posted a message to tech support but no answer back as of today.

Since you are not taking the time to post exactly what you have tried and where, it is difficult to understand what you have tried.  Did you do the following?
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

PC  Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Velocity Micro ProMagix ©HD 60; evga x58 motherboard, Intel i7 @2.93, 12G RAM, EVGA Nvidia 560TI superclocked video card, SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme audio card, Buffalo external blu-ray burner; Creator 2012. PhotoShow 6, VHS to DVD 3Plus.

Laptop - Windows 7 Home
Dell XPS 1645, Intel I7 1,6G with overdrive ,4G RAM, 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, Sound Blaster X-Fi MB Panzer, 500G hard drive.

Apple =OSX 10.5
MacBook Pro; 15.4-inch widescreen display, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB memory, 200GB hard drive, 8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW), NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB of GDDR3 memory.  ILife 08, Toast 10, Final Cut Express 4 and Photoshop 4.

The question is is Quick Find a function of Media Manager or not? From the way it works you'd think so.The only thing is that the only time you ever see Quick Find is from the Home app.It also seems dependant on what app you're using as to what it looks for.
So if it's a byproduct of Media Manager then turning off MM should help,if not then there might be some other way to turn it off.

Sorry I haven't been as clear as I need to be. When I start EMC9 from the Home app, heavy disk activity begins almost immediately. From the Home app, I click on Audio, then Audio CD. Quickfind is indicated on the top right, and a green Loading activity status bar is slowly progressing to a complete stage. Once complete, I see a listing of artists, but only through the "T" portion of my CD collections. (Quickview must have a limitation on the # of artists/songs it can find/display, but that is another subject.)

I just finished uninstalling Media Manager but that had no affect. I have the Watchlist service turned off and changed all Roxio services to Manual start. Roxio_Central33.exe is the task chugging along while the Loading process takes place.

I'm not able to paste a screen print to show the Loading status line. Hopefully Sonic recognizes this as a problem and provides a fix. I opened a ticket last Thursday but no response so far.

Thanks for everyone's helpful comments.

FIXED IT!

I eliminated the disk churning resource issue at last. I had changed all Roxio Services in Administration Tools to Manual thinking they would not run, but I guess that was not the case. I was looking in msconfig for what might run at start up and took a look at the Services tab. All Roxio services were checked, so I unchecked them all, rebooted and start EMC9. No disk churning and Quick Find has disappeared from the Audio section. Now why can't that just be an option a user can turn off. Anyway, finally happy.

Probably because it isn't an option on most software.  As soon as I install any software, I immediately do an msconfig and turn off whatever it has enabled at startup.

Good for you! Thanks for posting your fix.

The Services.msc and startup fix worked for me, but I wound up uninstalling MediaManager anyway (thanks to grussell for the suggestion). I think finding a file is quicker and easier without it.
