I captured video from my DV camcorder into EMC-9, but it won't let me burn to DVD. The captured video file is in AVI format at just under 5GB in size. When I try to create a DVD from it, the project size is over 33GB! Doesn't make any difference what I do with the settings. Fit-to-Disc doesn't make any difference. I tried burning to an ISO file first, and still it says not enough disk space. This software is so frustrating, I'm ready to return it! Help!

How long, timewise is that video? Basically, you can get 1 hour of video on a standard (4.7GB) DVD at best quality. You can get more than that by going the ISO file route and having Disc Copier compress it to fit on a disc, but there will be quality loss if you go much over an hour.

If you're in the 1 hour range that Bruce mentioned and still having problems, try breaking the file up into smaller amounts. At the very least you can get it on 2 dvd's. However, you may find you're able to have 2 titles and still fit to disc.

The original AVI is only 23 minutes long and less than 5GB. Why the heck can't I get the burn project below 33GB, even if I go the ISO route first. In fact it won't even let me go the ISO route and says there is not enough disk space.

Something isn't right. Can you preview that video in VideoWave? What does is show for the length of time just above the production editor? (I know that you said it was 23 minutes long, but check anyway.)

Same: it shows to be just over 23 minutes. I tried recpaturing it MPEG format and got the same result: now more than 34GB as a final project size.

There is definitely something fouled up, and I don't know what to tell you.

Maybe the file is corrupted but it does seem impossible to believe a 23 min file is 34 GB in both an avi and mpeg. I too have no idea. Have you given it a second try at a capture to see if the same thing happens?

have you tried to capture with other software, say Windows Movie Maker, and see if you get the same result?

I can put project together in Windows Movie Maker okay, but Ijust can't burn them to DVD with that program (as far as I can tell. And if I use the videos I put together with that program in a Roxio or Sonic based DVD project, the scene transitions are choppy.

I finally cured the size problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the EMC 9 program, but then it could not keep from crashing the computer (new Dell laptop) when I would get so far into the production of the project.

Gave up and uninstalled it and went back to MY DVD 8. That would at least get me all the way through the production of the project. But now I can't get it to burn, either to disk or ISO file. It gets to 96% in the encoding phase and just stops! Grrr! Driving me nuts!
