Hello.

I installed EMC 9 earlier this morning, and so far, everything appears to be working, except My DVD--which is the component I want to use the most.

I'm getting a warning screen that says, "The following codecs must be activated before using the application.  MPEG-2.  Click OK to activate."

When I click OK, I get a box that says, "No permission.  Bad installation."  I click OK and My DVD shuts down.

I'm using a Hauppauge WinTV-GO card and have installed the most current driver and software.

Why am I getting this activation warning?  How do I go about activating the codec?

I did a complete installation.  (And the program was purchased and is legitimate.)

Are you running IE7 Beta?  If so, you need to uninstall it to get activation to work.

I'm not running IE 7 Beta.   However, I do use Firefox as my default browser.

Look for these cookies and if they exist, delete them and see if that helps.

Do you have your firewall turned on? if so, please disable it, and try it again.
(it could be windows firewall, Norton Security Firewall, etc...)

I am having the same problems.  I had IE7 installed and removed it.  Removed EMC 9, rebooted, disabled firewall (windows and macafee), stopped the Windows Defender service, installed EMC 9, rebooted, again disabled firewalls and Defender (Defender was preventing me from even installing EMC 9).  I still get the MPEG-2 error.  I get the following errors in Event Viewer when trying to start Import Video:

Detection of product '{AC0EE5B0-A8FB-4D0A-AF03-2EDC518F841B}', feature 'SoleFeature', component '{BC75C223-1E98-4342-B5D6-38B20DB537ED}' failed.  The resource 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DMX.PLAYDVD\' does not exist.

and

Detection of product '{AC0EE5B0-A8FB-4D0A-AF03-2EDC518F841B}', feature 'SoleFeature' failed during request for component '{D2D7B4BF-6CCA-11D5-8B3F-00105A9846E9}'

Nothing I do seems to make any difference.

Nothing I do seems to make any difference.

After you removed EMC9 and rebooted, did you clear out your cookies and removed all EMC9 folders?  Not exactly sure what the reg info is pointing to but maybe do a search of your registry for that string and see what 'product' is referenced.

I am having the same problem with the MPEG-2 "activation" and "no permission - bad installation" message. (I have ATI TV Wonder Elite rather than WinTV).

Has anyone solved this problem yet?

I get the same message but only on my laptop and haven't yet figured out exactly what this means.  Still working on it.

I finally did a clean install of Windows, loaded EMC9, and the error went away; didn't even get the prompt to "activate". I had an ATI TV Wonder and an ATI video card that came with lots of software installed. I am thinking that it was getting in the way somehow (maybe another registered MPEG2 codec??). It seems like a video capture/TV tuner card is a common thread. I will take an image, and then install the ATI software and see what happens.

You will get the prompt to activate, eventually.  I opened VideoWave many many times before I was prompted to activate.  A definite bug in the system.

When I finally got the activation request for MPEG 2, at first I got the same message. I thought it must be because of IE 7, so rolled back to IE 6. Opened MyDVD, was again asked to activate MPEG 2, same result. I then shut down my Zone Alarm firewall and used the Windows firewall instead, with IE6 set as the default browser and the activation succeeded next time I opened MyDVD.

High fives to you, and thanks for posting your solution.  Personally, I can't imagine anyone using ZA.  It has caused a multitude of problems with programs, and it is not needed if you have XP SP2 installed.  But then again, I say that because I also have a hardware firewall in my router.

I also have a firewall in my router and I have ZA as an extra precaution but agree, it's probably not needed.  However, I've never had it cause a problem but have had Norton Internet Security and McaFee cause problems and won't use them.  ZA has come a long way in the last 2 versions.  I hardly even know it's there.

The only way that I know it is around is from the posts of folks who have it installed.  When they disable it, 99% of the posters solve the problems with the software for which ZA is causing problems.

Interesting, a phone home problem? Like MS? You were worried about XP SP 2 Right?

Not really worried about SP2 now.  I was worried about in fouling up programs that I use for my business.  That is why I did not install it.  I need the programs to work, so I will continue to have some income.

SP2 did not cause problems with the programs, but when SP2 first came out, 2 of the programs that I use for business, were on the list of having problems with SP2.

I tried everything suggested but a clean install. Finally bit the bullet and did the clean install, all is well now. There is one problem, this is my third clean install in less than 3 weeks of use to clear other problems. I hope Roxio is listening and comes up with a patch soon to fix what appears to be many bugs. This software is way to unstable for the price they demand.

Who do we have to wait for to come up with a fix for this? Microsoft or Roxio? I read through this and removed IE7. Installed IE6. Same problem. Downloaded and installed latest IE7. Still have the same problem. It had been working fine with IE7 until yesterday. Then this popped up all of a sudden. IE doesn't seem to be the problem for me. I've disabled McAfee and Windows XP firewall. Still have the problem. This is sucking bigtime. MY DVD is the main reason I bought EMC9 and I can't use it now. I'm really not interested in doing a clean Windows install just to use one program. I hope they fix this soon.

Have to wait for MS to lock in the release – IE7 is beta!!!!

Beta means things are changing and how do you 'fix' something when they keep changing it.

If you are not self reliant on a computer you should never install any beta software. A good self test is are you willing to reformat your HD right now?

If the answer is No, you are not a beta tester!
