Hi,
I'm new here so please forgive any idiot questions. I'm trying to import a movie file done with Windows Movie Maker into MyDVD essentials 8 so I can make a dvd to play in my dvd player. The movie is wmv video and mp3 audio. When I try to get it into MyDVD it tells me ther is a problem encoding it (error 80040227). Any help/suggestions? Thanks.

Please post your computer specs. Without more information, it's very hard to even guess.
Are you burning direct to disc?  If so, try burning to an image file and see if that helps.

Hi, Beerman,
I am really new at this, so please bear with me. This is concerning the error 80040227 message when I try to import a file made with windows movie maker into MyDVD essentials 8. I have a compaq Presario w/windows xp home;512 mb ram; 149gb hd w/135gb free;DVD drive: Lite-on dvdrw SOHW-832S;VIA/S3G uni chrome IGP. Trying to burn to an image file yields the same result when MyDVD tries to encode the file. It starts to encode and then a couple of seconds later the error message comes up. I originally was trying to burn direct to dvd. Thanks.

What's the speed of your Presario? For many reasons I'm not a fan of burning direct to disc but your error could be due to many things. 512mb of ram is within the requirements but the rest of your system will need to be in good shape. First, make sure your hard drive is defragged and that you have all background or other programs shut down.  Don't use your pc for anything while it's encoding.
Try this fix which is not for your error but can't hurt to give it a try.

Hi, Beerman,
I de- fragged the hard drive and I haven't been running any other programs while attempting to import a file into MyDVD essentials8. I tried it again and same result. Do you think it has something to do with the file types the movie is in? I filmed a movie on a analog camcorder and then burned it onto dvd using a Toshiba dvd recorder (mpeg2 output). Then I used Super Converter to encode it to wmv (video) and mp3(audio).From there it went to Windows Movie Maker where it was edited: fades; transitions; music, etc. Then it all went to a folder (finished movies). It seems strange that I could get it in and out of WMM with no problem and then at the last stage(Getting that file into MyDVD)- have a problem. By the way- do you know what error 80040227 is? Thanks.

Why are you going thru all that?  Unless I misunderstand you, why not take the file from the camcorder directly into MyDVD or Videowave?  Or take the dvd you made and capture the dvd to your hard drive and use VW to do any editing and transitions?  You'd do better working with the file directly from camcorder into your computer and manipulate it with EMC than going thru all that you did.  Unless I just don't understand what you're saying.

Hi, Beerman,
I originally burned the dvd from my analog camcorder because I don't have a video capture device to convert my analog signal to digital,( and I already have Windows Movie Maker). But, here's another thing: I just took the dvd that was burned directly from the camera and tried to import it using the capture page (Roxio media import). I clicked the video button and then in the scroll down window (select a device or source to import from) the window shows: Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-832-D(D:) which is my dvd drive and when I click on that it immediately goes back to " select a device or source to import from". The dvd plays on my computer (Windows Media Player). Like I said, I,m really new at this and maybe I am missing something in MyDVD. This has me stumped!
