I should just give up on this software but when it works it's worth it. How can you get a functional installation without doing a Windows reinstall and a having clean registry. I had EMC 7.5 and 8 installed. I uninstalled them with add/remove. Then following advice from this forum, I deleted roxio folder in program files, Roxio Shared folder in C:\program files\common files, Roxio folder in C:\documents and settings\user name\application data\roxio and the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE AND HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ROXIO entries. When I rebooted I had blue screen crashes which I finally fixed with windows restore to point just after uninstall of 7.5 and 8. Then windows installer kept trying to reinstall 7.5 and 8 until i removed them from the windows installer database. I reinstalled 7.5 and then uninstalled it. I reinstalled 8 and uninstalled it. There were a ton of Roxio folders and files and registry entries which I left. I installed EMC 9 full install. Some parts of the program worked but Creator classic and Tag editor (maybe others) would crash because they couldn't find RXAssetViewdll.dll. I uninstalled 9 and reinstalled all parts of program but to different location, Roxio\Easy Media Creator 9. Same problem again. A search for RXAssetViewdll.dll found 2, in program files\common file\roxio shared in the version 9.0 dll shared folder and the shared dll folder. Renaming the RXAssetViewdll.dll in the shared dll folder solved that problem.
Now when I try to use the backup mypc program and try to save or open a backup, I get an error unable to find DRVWDDM.dll. Please Reinstall!! That file is sitting right there in the Program files\Roxio\Easy Media Creator 9\Backup Mypc\System folder, which I guess is where it belongs, but Backup Mypc can't find it. Sorry for rambling on, but I'm stumped.

To get a 'clean' install:
Remove ALL Roxio previous products using the Control Panel.
Delete these folders if they exsist:
C:\program files\roxio
c:\program files\sonic
c:\program files\common files\roxio shared
c:\program files\common files\sonic shared
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Roxio
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Roxio
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Roxio
Also remove any IE cookies with Roxio or Sonic in this folder:
c:\documents and settings\username\cookies
Then use a registry cleaner to remove any entries that may refer to the removed applications. THEN REBOOT and reinstall EMC 9.

If you don't want to install a registry cleaner, the specific folders that need deleting in the registry are as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Roxio
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Sonic
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Roxio
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Sonic
There may be other minor keys but these are the ones that really matter, including things like codecs and critical software values.

Hi, I learned with version 5 of Easy CD creator that the best way to install roxio (adeptec) products was a clean install. That was then, this is now and maybe the situation has changed. I've not installed EMC9 yet, because I've not uninstalled my EMC7.5 or EMC8 yet. (I'm actually working actively on a project, and want to finish it).
Do you recommend the clean install? Or should I just go ahead and install and see what problems creep up?
It would be nice if I could keep the EMC8, but not at the cost of problems with EMC9
Thanks for your help

Keep EMC 7.5 and dump the version 8 before you install 9.

I will be installing 9 probably next weekend and am going to try to do a clean install. I've noticed under the documents and setting folder there are Roxio and Sonic folders under several users names such as administrator, h-p administrator, current user etc. Should I be searching out and removing any Roxio or Sonic reference I find there. I have removed 8, although it obviously left remnants and will be removing the Sonic programs that came loaded on the computer. I have no problems running Registry Mechanic to search out registry entries and Tracks Eraser Pro will get rid of the cookies, I'm just trying to figure out what to do with all these Roxio and Sonic folders under Documents and Settings.
Thanks

Personally, I would remove them all just to make sure there was nothing left to conflict with the new install.
