I have just noticed that after installing the complete download install, in start/programs I have two entries under Roxio Easy Media creator 9/Backup: 'Easy Archive' and 'Roxio Backup'. There is no BUMP entry, nor in program files is there a Sonic\Backup MyPC folder (or indeed any Program Files\Sonic folder) as there was in EMC 8.

I extracted the files from the download, and I see that there is a separate folder called BUMP_70 with a.msi installer file.

Did BUMP not get installed, or is it one of the two backup apps listed, but under a new name?

If the former, can I just install it from its .msi file?

During the install, it did say it had detected a previous version of BUMP (although I thought I'd cleaned up pretty thoroughly after removing EMC 8), and offered to uninstall it, which it appeared to do and carried on with the install. Everything installed appears to be functioning normally (though I haven't yet tried the backup components other than opening/closing them).

In the registry, there is a Backup MyPC entry at

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\BF990736DF547CB46915F65B04BD7B94

but the version number is 0x06000000, which implies it is an entry I missed in the clearout of EMC 8 registry entries (I neglected to search for Backup MyPC, though I did search for \Sonic).

There are also registry entries refering to v 6 at
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Sonic\Backup MyPC\6.0
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Sonic\Backup MyPC\6.0

which are presumably others that I missed.

but nothing referring to v 7.

However the uninstall registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{938B1CD7-7C60-491E-AA90-1F1888168240}\BUMP_70

(one of the subkeys for the EMC 9 uninstall key) suggests that Backup MyPC_70 was installed, so I'm confused as to why I can't find Backup My PC files anywhere..

Comments and advice welcomed.

No, that's where I first looked, and began to think it wasn't installed.

What about  a repair install?  Maybe that will work.

Thanks for confirming that it ought to be there. I'll try a repair, after first removing those registry entries (and also uninstall IE 7).

A repair install did not install Backup MyPC. Presumably it only repairs components that are already installed (users might have done a custom install and would not want a repair to install all the others).

So I completely uninstalled EMC 9 contents, EMC9 suite, drag to disc and Sightspeed (the four related entries in add/remove), deleted all the remaining Roxio, Sonic, Backup MyPC folders, removed all mention of Backup MyPC in the registry and did a fresh install. This time BUMP was installed :-). It's listed on the Home/backup page as 'System backup' and in the start/programs/..../backup folder as Backup MyPC. Oddly, Roxio backup is now only listed on the Home/applications page, and not on the home/backup page as it was in my previous install.

I opened BUMP and registered it successfully, so I think it will be OK. Everything else seems OK too.
The BUMP files are now under program files\Roxio rather than program files\Sonic, presumably because EMC9 is a bit more integrated than was EMC8.

I was not asked to reregister Roxio home or cineplayer, presumably because I had not deleted the registry keys and it recognised that they were already registered.

Incidentally, the repair install was expecting to find Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 Suite.msi in the pft4.tmp folder, which I had deleted. Fortunately I still had all the extracted files from the installer, so pointed it to that file there. I mention this because in one or other post someone mentioned that it was normal to delete app temp folders after an install (which I also thought), but apparently it's better to keep the Roxio one in case a repair install is needed, at least for people who don't have the files on a CD. I think I'll back up the pft4.tmp folder to a CD (it is 643MB so will fit), as I don't like having it in my temp folder (with luck I might not need it again anyway).

I'll now reinstall IE 7 :-).

Maybe, but I was referring to the subkeys at

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sonic\Registration

There is one for each product registered: BUMP_70, DMX 3.5 and Roxio Easy Media Creator 9.

In any case I had deleted the cookies (I only keep auto log in cookies for forums),

refer to my post number 6 in this thread that says what I did: essentially complete uninstall of all EMC 9 components, deletion of all Roxio and Sonic folders in all locations on the C:\ drive, deletion of all registry entries mentioning Backup MyPC. Then with the system rolled back to IE 6 (i.e. in case you have IE 7, uninstall that first), a fresh install of EMC 9.
