unrecoverable hardware error

this is the first time i am trying this and it says 'the backup device repported an unrecoverable hardware error. Ref: 07-12-23-003E02

Need more info. What drive, what media, system specs, which program (Roxio Backup or BUMP)? Does the drive have any problem with any other software?
