I am in desperate help, so if you can fix this for me I would be most grateul.

I have been trying to burn movies with MyDVD and I go through the whole process and make sure everything is validated and correct butwhen the application goes to show me the progress everything seems ok but my burner doesn't do anything. I have tried many things that support tells me, but my problem hasn't changed. I am yet to burn 1 movie and have been trying for a week now. If I have to give you a lot more spec. info. I will. Please help!

Yes, computer specs are always helpful.
Are you burning direct to disc from within MyDVD? Have you tried saving as an image file then use Disc Copier or Creator Classic to burn the ISO to your disc?  
A brief description of the steps you are taking up to where you get your problem would also be helpful.

well i was only burning to disc and that never worked obviously so i'll try the iso thing now. I will be using an application called PowerISO (Good?Bad?) if that works but I'm wondering now if that will allow use of menus and burn everything exactly the way I made it... please let me know...

Okay I'm going through the process and jot down important steps to be precise, but before that I will give you my system specs.

Intel Pentium 4 3.00 GHz
3.01 GHz, 768 MB of RAM
HIGHTECH EXCALIBUR RADEON 9250
LG Electronics HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B    Burner
XP Pro SP2
15 GB + 60 GB WDC WD800JB-00JJA0 Hard Drives

Now the steps:
The movie file is MPEG Video and disc is DVD-R 16X

When I click burn
Project Validation gives me no warnings
Burn Project - Burn to disc
File isn't too large
16.0X speed
then burn.

It will go through the whole encoding + overall progress 100%
I click ok and I have a blank DVD

hope this makes things a lot easier!

uhh yes actually thank you i clicked on the ISO thing and it burned perfectly but why did picture quality come out so bad?

Why don't you burn to an ISO file using MyDVD, instead of whatever other program you used?  The folks here have no clue about that other program.

Also, what is the source of the mpeg file?  Is it mpeg1 or mpeg2?

actually i don't know I checked its properties and it just said MPEG viseo. BTW this is all new to me...

I am finally burning images to disc but like I said before the quality is terrible and in options I select quality best possible - is there anthing else I can do to burn in original good quality?

Where did you get the video? That might tell us if it is mpg1 (poor quality for CD) or mpg2 (DVD quality). Also how long is the video and how large is it. A small size file might tell you that it is mpg1. From your posts, I still not sure what you are using to create the iso image - use MyDVD. Here are two images that might help. Copy the iso file to a DVD and let that program fit it to disc if it is large.

Also make sure the drivers for yuor video card are up to date and that you have the latest version of Microsoft DirectX 9c.

Ok I'd like to thank you first off for helping (and to everyone else) and taking your time for this...
To answer your questions I got the video downloaded off of BitComet (Torrent Spy) the video is 1:15 hours in length and it is 700 MB. When I select High Quality it shows that the file will be too large for my 4.7GB DVD-R. I am using MyDVD too create the iso image but I am still not pleased when my crystal clear vid turns into not-so-crystal quality. I have updated my frivers but I will check that DirectX 9c you mention. Hope there is still a chance...

ok I guess the only way to burn with the same quality is to select High Quality but when I click that it appears the file is too large for my DVD-R. Is there anyway to compress these files or is there anything I can do???

You need to understand how all this works. Most likely the file is DivX or Xvid which are highly compressed already.  Think about it. ONE hour of MPEG 2 is 4.7gig.  You have 1 hr 15min in 700MB!!!

To burn that to a standard video DVD, the file must be converted to MPEG 2. So you have a choice, burn it to dual layer at 'Best' quality and there will be a lot of empty space on the disc  OR let MyDVD 'fit to disc' which means somewhat lower quality.  In either case, quality suffers in the conversion process.

The only other choice is to purchase a newer DVD Player that also plays DivX files.
