When I am encoding and burning a DVD, I get an error message when the encoding/burning has completed. Instead of telling me that everything is okay, and that the DVD was burned successfully, the following error shows up:

Error: finalizing disc
(finalizing disc plase)
Error Code: 0x80004005 (GEV_PLASMA_FINALIZE/ERASE_FAILED)

I do not know what this error means, or why it shows up. I don't want to keep wasting my blank DVDs so I need some help solving this error.
I am running Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.x (Build 7.5.2.49 ENU) which is the most updated version (I believe, according to the Roxio updates page).
(DVD Builder is a part of the Roxio Easy Media Creator package that I purchased on CD)

Can someone help me to resolve this error?? Thank you very much!!!!!

:)  Eddie

Thanks!! The link download says it is for EMC 8.
I have EMC 7.5 though. Will it work?
Is there one for 7.5?

It has for some people on here.

You might also want to check the DVD burner manufacturer's website support to see if there are any updates for your burner.

to save DVDs,try burning it to an ISO file rather than a DVD.If it renders OK,then you can burn a DVD from the ISO file.

Now that's a good idea.

Just in case Eddie doesn't know.  An .iso file is an "Image File" which is the other option when trying to burn a DVD.  Uncheck the DVD burner and check 'image file'.  You  then burn the DVD using that file and Disk Copier.

By separating the encoding process from the burning process, you increase the chaces of a sucessful burn.

You also might want to check the DVD burner manufacturer's website and see which 'brands' of DVDs they recommend for that burner.

Thanks!! I followed all of your tips. First I installed that update, and encoded the file to an ISO, then burned it with DVD Copier. It didn't give me any errors, however, when I went to put it into my DVD player, it was unable to read the disc. Same thing with my Sony PlayStation 2 (which also reads DVD movies). Neither of them were able to play the disc. Does anyone know why this could be? (I am using Philips DVD+R discs, 8x speed)

Thanks!

I would try a different brand of disc.  Philips has been know to be poor, both with burners and with media.

Wow! Really? Because when I was at the store I bought Philips because it was the one of the few name brands on the shelf. I do have a few Memorex DVDs, but they are DVD-R, will they still work?

Also (in addition to above) I just burned a COPY of another DVD movie that I borrowed from a friend onto one of my Philips DVD+Rs and it played fine on my TV. I can't figure out if the problem is with the Philips DVD+Rs, or with Roxio...   :)

If you can get Verbatim media, get it.  Memorex runs neck and neck with Philips for being the bottom feeders of media.

You may also want to preview the ISO using the Disc Image Loader and CinePlayer before burning -- just to check if it is viewable.

You might also want to visit the website of your DVD Burner manufacturer and see if they have any 'brands' that they recommend you use with the burner.

While you're there, check for updates to your burner.

Also, be careful about the 'speed' of the dvds you're using.   Most are variable rate, but some aren't and some people have found that they had the wrong speed and they'd get an error message.
