I am also receiving an invalid pointer error 80004003 and am curious that since I am NOT running my XP Pro with SP2, if that could be the culprit?

Well I'm not sure in which application you receive that message, EMC 8 was not tested on Service Pack 1. This means it MAY be related but it MAY not. Not a great answer, but SP2 hasn't been as horrible as everyone had thought. You may want to try an upgrade, and then uninstalling and reinstalling after SP2 is installed. I do know some functions like LiveShare and possibly My MediaSpace will not work on SP1.

I have v8 on a computer that does not have sp2. I have had no problems with it. I have not tried LiveShare or MyMediaSpace, so I can't answer that but I use videowave and MyDVD, and Photosuite with no problems.

So does this mean in order to use EMC8 to its full capacity I need to purchase and install XP Professional with SP2 or later in 64 edition? I have XP with SP2

No, you do not need XP 64 at all. The good old XP (Pro or Home) that has been out for a while already is just fine, which is what it sounds like you have. So you already have the required operating system.

EMC8 should with all verions of WinXP - Home, Pro, 64bit and Media Center Editions. I don't think it is recommended to install on any of the SERVER editions and as Patrick said, it wasn't tested on SP1 although it may work fine for some.

I run it with SP1 and don't have problems. I don't use Liveshare, which I think requires SP2, but I have no use for Liveshare.

So then why do I get an error message that says Invadid pointer com error 80004003 when I try to click on the Home interface?

Don't know.
As some have noted, they are running it on SP1 with no problem. I could only find one other topic with this specific error being discussed. One person said updating to SP2 seemed to work for them, some it looks like this didn't work for. You can find that topic here:
http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...378&hl=80004003

Did you do the Typical install or a Custom install? (not sure that it would make a difference tho)
Do the applications all work if you run them from Start->Programs ? If so, you could just run them from there.

Otherwise, if running windows update to make sure you have all the most recent updates for XP, and/or doing a Repair for EMC 8 thru add/remove programs, or uninstalling and re-installing EMC8 doesn't help. Then I'd suggest trying contacting Roxio Support. If you choose the phone option, for issues like this they typically do not charge any fees. Contact info can be found here:
