Cannot install Easy Media Creator 8 Deluze

I have a product, ECM8 Deluxe, that I have been unable to install*. I have had no useful information on how to resolve this, and told that it will cost $35 for phone support, thank you very much.

After using Roxio softwre for years, this ends my relationship with this company, and its products. I'll now make it my goal to tell as many people as I can to stay away from them.

Good luck with this business model of dealing with customers.

*Insufficient "Rights" though I have administrator rights on the laptop.

It doesn't appear that you have even tried to get help here before this post. And, if you were happy enough for years of using Roxio, why do you just blow them off with one problem? I understand your frustration but this is a user forum not a direct link to Roxio/Sonic.

I've been through their knowledgebase, their self help, their on-line ticket system, and their phone support (which they refused to assist me without a credit card number).

ONE PROBLEM? Like the absolute inability to install the software? I'm not talking about a minor (or even major) quirk, or complaint about a changed feature, or not supporting a particular drive here. I'm talking about a software package I cannot install, and can get no assistance on.

I've been through their channels. I've filled out their customer "satisfaction" survey. They have my feedback and the same message. I'm echoing it to other users (or potential users) here.

So, simply put, you run the setup and it just gives you a message that you have insufficient user rights?
For laughs and giggles, try creating a new user giving full admin rights, reboot to the new user and try to install again and let me know what happens.

So simply stated, and so impossible for me to do. I'm in a corporate environment and do not have the ability to create additional users for this machine. And, since this is not part of the "standard" corporate software offerings, my internal IT department will not assist me in the least.

Roxio had already sent me to an article on Microsoft's site to try and create a new user account (http://support.micro...279783&sd=tech) but even that article stated very clearly:

Note: This tool is not available on a computer that is a member of a Domain.

Which is the case for me.

Maybe your corporate environment has a software policy restriction that doesn't allow you to run executables.

I've been able to install other (non-standard) software packages, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Kepner Tregoe eThink, OpenOffice, UltraMon, Street Atlas USA, Topo USA (just to name a few). So I would think that it must run deeper than that.

there might be some specific registry entries Roxio program require to modified that you don't have the right to modify it... and those keys are not used by other programs...

Maybe this is why your "standard corporate offerings" dont include this application. I often see IT departments shun things that make even a slight amount of additional work for them. It sounds like this is the case for you as well.

If you dont have permissions to install the application you might need to give the applciation to an IT employee and ask them to install it in the Admin account for you. Just dont let them leave without testing to make sure it runs. IT departments often forget to realize that they are there to help you get your applications running. I agree with gaper, if they wont help you get it running, its probably because they know they didnt give you the kind of access you need to use it.

My IT group refuses to even discuss it with me. Though it was purchased through proper channels, it is not a core application so they wash their hands of it.

Consider yourself lucky. I did install EMC-8 and would have been better without it. Not only is EMC 8 buggy but it also cuauses problems with the MyDVD6 application and Media Center. (Since Media Center uses "Sonic Solutions" to write DVD the problems may be related).

If I could go back in time and not install EMC 8 I would. MyDVD6 was basic but reliable. I have to admit that I have learned form this fourm and the people are quite helpfull but I would have rather it have worked out of the box. So if you want to continue your education install it. Otherwise abandon your attempt since there are some users (not just me) who have found that this application can cause problems with other applications without even running it. (I never had a failure writing data DVDs before installing this product).
