I have two CDs I have been trying to copy.  They are game discs that I use so much I know they will eventually become too scratched to use.  Rather than buy another for $50, I wanted to make backup copies.   They install correctly and they run at run time just fine.  I can copy all the files and directories to hard disk with no problems (one is seriously scratched) using simple Windows XP drag-and-drop files.  But Roxio gives up with an error in less than 10 seconds on what apears to be the first couple tracks.

Using Roxio EMC 7 and copy-data-disc I get "Unrecovered read error - medium error" 03/11/05. Searching the web there is no information on this, at least no suggestions.  

Is this some kind of copy protection or is there something I can do to make the backup copy?  

Is this fixed in EMC 8?  9?

There may be copy protection involved. However, if you can copy to your HD, try using Classic based on those files to make a Data CD…
