I am trying to copy a Video 8 tape from my Sony TVR480 camcorder. The tape stops every few seconds and doesn't copy at all. The camera works fine. Any suggestions on this one? Thanks.

Could you give a little more information about how you're trying to copy the video..... what hardware you're using, etc.?  Is your camcorder plugged into the AC adapter?

On Sony's website, they give some troubleshooting help.  If none of their suggestions work, please give more information about your computer and connections.

What ML is asking about is how is your camera hooked up to your PC?

If not a Firewire, what device?

What program are you using to capture with?

What settings are you using within that program?

Is Windows Movie Maker able to capture with this setup?

Thanks for asking the right questions, James.  I'm interested in finding out the answers too.

For joedoc,   the way you get to the sony site is www.sony.com then select ....

Service and support\ Product Support\ Digital Camcorders\ Digital 8\ TRV480\ Troubleshoot Connection Problems.

See if this link will work for you....  http://esupport.sony...amp;region_id=1

Here is some information on the TRV480.

Product Description
So you want to go digital, but you still want to keep all your old video tapes. The versatile DCR-TRV480 allows you to play all of your old 8mm and Hi8 video tapes. For all your video recording needs, the DCR-TRV480 captures digital video on Digital8 media for sharp, high quality recordings, and MPEG Movie EX mode video on standard Memory Stick media for compact MPEG1 movies. Explore all that digital video recording has to offer with high-quality features such as a high resolution CCD imager, 20x optical zoom lens, and Super Nightshot Plus low light recording. The Digital Zoom captures and enhances distant subjects, and the SteadyShot Picture Stabilization system makes recording smoother. The 2.5" LCD Display makes it easy to view and record even from the most difficult angles.

Roxio software recognizes the camera and starts it up to copy but it stops after a few seconds and the process is repeated over again. I can see the video on the preview window but nothing gets copied.

The camera is hooked up properly with a FireWire. Sony call it iLink.

Ok.  That's a start.  I'm assuming that you followed their recommendations.

1.   Is your camcorder connected to the AC outlet when you're capturing or are you running it on batteries?

2.  Can you capture with Windows Movie Maker which is part of WindowsXP?    The purpose of that question is to determine if another program can capture the video.

We're trying to determine if it's the program or the computer.   If you cannot capture with Windows Movie Maker, then we need to look closer at your computer and the firewire connection.

3.  Are you using a Sony IEEE 1394 cable or another brand?
