Can't Copy Audio Cd In Creator 2012

Uninstalling/reinstalling the drives did not help (as you and I both expected). But I have narrowed the problem further: I can copy a disc (I tried a single layer DVD) from drive E to drive F if I set the options to "Stage to Hard Drive". I haven't tried it yet, but I fully expect that with this option set, I will be able to copy from drive F to drive E and I'll be able to copy both CDs and DVDs in either direction. This is consistent with my past experience of being able to write HARD DISC FILES to either DVD drive. IOW, the problem seems to be with sequentially reading from one drive and writing to another, not with reading or writing either drive per se.

I think my comment about 'BD-ROM' was a red herring. I don't think reinstalling the drives or the drivers would help, either, for several reasons: 1) C2012 COPY DISK does NOT work when the source and destination drives are different, i.e. E to F or F to E. 2) C2012 COPY DISK DOES work when the source and destination drives are the same, i.e. E to E or F to F in spite of the fact it refers to drive F as a BD-ROM. I just now copied from F to F; from E to E yesterday. 3) C2012 CREATE AUDIO DISC can write to both drives, using either CDs or DVDs. 4) Creator Premier 10.3 can (a) copy a disc or ( write audio and data files to both drives using CDs or DVDs. 5) Sony Sound Forge can write audio files to both drives. 6) PowerDirector can write single or double layer video DVDs to both drives. 7) CopyDVD can copy a (standard) DVD from E to F or from F to E. I don't find any new drivers on the Dell site. So the problem boils down to C2012 COPY DISK's inability to copy from one drive to a different drive. I have problems only with C2012, and only with one function -- COPY DISK.

Here are 2 shots, the first before I click the green 'GO' button, the 2nd of the error message that comes up 2 minutes later. I see that it says the destination drive is a BD-ROM. That means "read only", no? Of course it isn't a BD-ROM, it's a BD-RE drive. Could that be the problem?

I edited, and this time the screen shot came through.

I think you know, from previous posts in this thread, that both of my drives can write all kinds of CDs, and single and double-layer DVDs. But only one of them can write Blu-Ray.

I'll post the requested screen shot in a minute. As for your right-click menu, it's different from mine. I don't use Windows Explorer, but a wonderful 3rd party program XYPlorer, which has countless features that Win Explorer doesnt. So I don't have an 'Extract here' option, but there IS a WinZip option which gives me several choices, with 3 or 4 Extract options, and one to Open with WinZip. In the meantime, I've looked at the Content file in WinZip, and it contains a bunch of CAB or DATA files. But WinZip can open them, and, as I suspected, this is mostly stuff for labels, DVD menus, etc. I don't need that, so I haven't reinstalled the Contents file.

Yes, I see. My comment was based on the screen shot from C2012, where they were both shown as able to write Blu-Ray.

Just another comment on 'extracting' the downloaded file. It's not a ZIP, it's a self-extracting ZIP with an EXE extension. When you double click it, it immediately starts to extract to a pre-defined folder in my Temp directory and then runs Setup. There's a Browse button so the user can change the download location, but you don't get a chance to use it -- extracting has already started. If you click that button, it aborts the extraction. IOW, the download is set up for newbies, and you don't get any option to extract without installing. I've been using Roxio products since 1991, when it was Easy CD Creator, and I don't need that kind of hand-holding, but there seems to be no way to avoid it. Anyway, the final analysis of my situation seems to be that my hardware is different from other people's, and Copy Disk just don't work for me!

What I notice is that you seem to have 2 identical drives. Mine aren't the same -- one can read BD, the other can read and write BD. They are from different manufacturers. But it's still strange that if I'm CREATING a new audio CD from files on the hard drive, I can write with either drive. I can COPY a CD only if I specify the same drive for source and destination. An uninstall and reinstall hasn't changed anything.

Yes, my Dell v 10.3 is, as you can see, quite precious at this point. It can do things that C2012 can't! FWIW, I just uninstalled C2012 Content and C2012 program, and reinstalled just the C2012 program. The problem persists. The strange thing (to me) is that I can copy a disc as long as the source and destination drives are the same !! Can you tell me what's in the C2012 Content file? Is this backgrounds, menus, etc for DVDs and such?

Just a comment on your (very helpful) list of links. One of them (#11 ??) is to information on a complete uninstall of Creator 2011 and 2012. That page in turn has a link to a 'cleanup' BAT file, which is described as for C2011. Does it work with C2012 also?

I extracted with WinZip. As far as backups, I have the file backed up on 3 (three!!) other hard drives, 1 internal and 2 external. I hope that's enough. Thanks for the file list. I'll re-extract again and compare my file names, sizes, and dates with yours. Thanks again for the help.

I just replied to this, but I don't see my post, so here it is again. Sorry if it turns out to be a duplicate. The machine is from September 2010 (see my post #4). I was surprised that the Roxio software that accompanied it was from 2007. Why did I upgrade? Because the incessant emails from Roxio and the pop-up messages from the old program promised me untold riches and new features. I have to admit the screens are prettier <g>. The other reason was that I was hoping C2012 would allow me to NOT install the CD Label module and its pile of junky fonts. (With the old versions (I've been using this software since, I think, version 5), if I uninstalled the fonts, within a few seconds I'd get a pop-up telling me to insert my Creator CD/DVD so the installation could be 'repaired'. What a pain ! Unfortunately, there still seems to be no way to install without the label creator.) Re the uninstall issue, my experiences with upgrades is that normally if you must uninstall the previous version, the installer either (1) tells you that and refuses to install the new version, or (2) it does the uninstall automatically. Since neither of those things happened here, I assumed it wasn't needed. At this point, perhaps I should uninstall and reinstall C2012. I hope there wasn't a problem with my download of the program, or that I can download again. Thanks for your help.

Yes, that's correct -- copy in a single operation. For what it's worth, since cdanteek inadvertently showed a screen shot copying to the same drive, I tried that. After ripping the cd to a temp file on the hard drive, it asked me to put a blank CD in the drive, and lo and behold, the copy worked without errors !!! As I said, I think this is a bug. Does anyone from Roxio 'watch' these discussions?
