    Authoring Program

Is the program considered an "Authoring Program". Just askin because i was researching what formats dvd players use most.....and it was said that what format was just part of the equation when making dvds......that a authoring program is needed or best used. And it made me wonder.....is this program considered a Authoring Program to any extent........seems it would be.......but i did not want to assume.

    Re-Install Program

How often do i do a restore?......I'm no computer wiz so i dont know how to explain so i will say it like this.....any and all activity done when getting on line....wheather its doin some research, looking at instructional video or for what ever reason....somethin allways gets put into the computer. Your gonna ask what does and I dont know but eventually the computer starts to slow down and before you know it, something is running in the background (hard drive light startsblinking more than usual thats how i know something is running, everything just starts taking longer). So, how often....when I have had a good amount of time on the internet i will do a restore. I use my laptop for most internet activity. But sometimes I like lookin at a big screen with high resolution And why the restore.....for good measure, to take out whats been put in by being on line and to keep music program running smooth. If need be I will do a system image that has roxio in it. Thats why i started this thread. If people are having problems reinstalling the roxio program or have to do this and that and have to go thru a lot of hastle to do a reinstall.....i will get another external hard drive and put a system image that has roxio on it. There are ways to put more than one system image on one external hard drive. But I will take no chances with my go to system image cuz doin a factory restoration and gettin everything back the way it was is a big pain in the grass

    Re-Install Program

My desk top is pretty much dedicated to the use of the music program only. Straight from the get go i set the computer up and installed the music program and did a system image. That way its like brand new every time i do a system image restoration. I am using the computer with the roxio program because of its ability to keep up with any processing demands. While I am doing the project of preserving my VHS tapes I will leave the roxio program in. But when Im done, the program will be out of the computer and put on the shelf till time comes that I need it again. Its real easy to burden a computer with many programs and before you know it things get glichie. And thats a bad thing when using a music program.

    Re-Install Program

The other program was a download that came with the interface i purchased. I had to purchase a usb elicencer and transfer licensing to it. Now when i do a system image restoration, the installed software recognizes my rights to use the program. Its measures the company takes in order to prevent piracy. Just to clarify,.....you are saying that when i reinstall the Roxio program, after a system image restoration.....the original product key will still work. Is this correct? Or do you mean create a sytem image right now and the program will work when a system image restoration is done. I just want to make sure I understand because i will be well past my 14 days of free Roxio support when i do a system image restoration.

    Re-Install Program

If for any reason i have to uninstall or if I perform a system image restoration on my computer and have to instal the program again, will i run into any problems using the same key code. I ask because on a music home studio program i use, every time i did a system image restoration the program would ask for the activation code (which is like a key code) and i could never use the same code twice. The program has good support found solution to the issue. So, basically, I'm asking if i can instal the program again and again using the same key code( i use system image restoration a lot).? it will be on the same computer. Or is the key a one time thing and a new one needed every time. Im looking to hear from someone who has reinstalled program multiple times. Im asking because i need to know if i need to create a system image with the program installed as it is right now. This would mean me investing in another external hard drive specifically to avoid problems when i do a system image restoration.

    Capture Length Limit

Digital Guru.....where u suggesting that the Roxio dongle will work with the windows movie maker as far as capturing goes? i ask this without having tryed. Just want to make sure i understand ur suggestion.

    Capture Length Limit

Hopfully i can give the suggestions a run threw soon. i have a lot of VHS tapes to get done.

    Capture Length Limit

No, i have not tried several different tapes. The tape i have been running runs very well. So i did not bother tryin different sources. I probably should run threw different tapes an see what happens. It crossed my mind to do so and now that you point it out i will. Ive done several capture runs with same tape finding consistency. And finding a post pointing out file size limitation.....i started believing it and was hoping someone here could debunk that opinion. And if there is a file size limit...what is the limit.

    Capture Length Limit

thanks for the suggestions. No i don't have a digital cam but now i have a good reason to get one:) I've been doin digital recording with my canon rebel t3i. Maybe i can rig somthin up using it, but i don't know. As far as tracking issues i don't see any. i believe it automatically adjusts. But will look into it. I will turn off my antivirus and see what happends. Thanks for pointing out specific brands of Dvd media. Thats a good to know thing. You have given a lot of tips and suggestions. Gonna give it all a go an see what happends ASAP.. I have 2 terabytes of hard drive running at 5200 rpm and 16 gigs of ram with 4th gen i7 processor. My com should have no problem keeping up. As far as defraging......i do "system image restoration" often enough. it keeps my com runnin like new.

    Capture Length Limit

Thanks for your input. There are no gaps. It is happening in the middle of the action. The all in one go capture would be exported then would be for viewing thru programs such as "video" in windows 8, Windows media player....or any other player that can read mp4 format (all on computer). So if I can get it all in one go it will make it easyer. I am see now(if i understand corectly) that I can simply link the capture takes which means when I export it, it will come out as one. But still, I would have to do it 17 min at a time before i do that. It would just be easier to multi-task if it would capture all in one go. Which I am hoping someone here on the site knows how to get it done in one go. But, yes, when I get around to tryin to make a DVD...my mind set will change and will have to put time into editing, triming ect... Of course, I will need to do my research before I take that task on. Such as, will the program allow me to make a DVD with a dual layer DVD media (that would allow around 8 gigs of export) and do I need a special DVD player to read it if it can be done....ect..ect. Im just tickled to death to be able to get my VHS stuff on to the computer. Ive been puttin it off for a while. This is gonna be a long ongoing task. So, yall will be hearing from me for a while as i go thru the full potential of this program. And again, thank for taking the time to post up.
  12. Capturing a video its pretty simple...just press play on the VHS player and press record on the program. Captured footage goes to captured videos file as a mpg file. I have found that if I do not use the "Set Recording Duration" feature......then just a little while into capturing..... the program stops capturing and the VHS player continues to play. So I set it to 2 hr or 3 hrs ...what ever the max is, I forget. When I do this, the program contuies to capture until around 17 mins in. Then the program stops capturing and VHS player contiues to play. I look at the captured footage file and the mpg file size is 1.06 gigs. Ive done some rooting around the forum for answers. I believe I found one that pointed to file size max as the problem. Is this correct? At this point I have not tryed to make a DVD (that task is for another day). Eventually go to my LPs and so on so fourth. So far it is just getting a video file into the computer, from the VHS tape, to be saved and moved to an external harddrive for storage. I am liking the mp4 format because it uses less memory and playback is fine. I would like to capture the entire VHS tape in one go instead of 17 min at a time. PLEASE tell me there is a way to get it done in one go. But, if not, if I have to get it out at 17 min a pop....then so be it. At least my memorys wont fall pray to the decay of time and will be around for as long as it can. John

    Compression Formats

Thanks for the input everyone. It help out a lot.

    Compression Formats

Okay. When it comes time to export footage....if i choose computer and choose mpeg2 the total size of the file is 1.22 gigs ( around 18 minutes) But if i choose to export thru the ipod icon then it exports as a mp4 the total ssize of the file is 82.0 mbs. Man, thats a huge difference in file size. When i play them both on the computer i cannot see any differance in quality. Am i missing somthing? Is there a benifit to having one format over the other aside from file size? Am i sacrificing potential options....is there a down side using mp4 format over mpeg 2?
