    Okay, so now what...?

I finally found the time today to uninstall EMC 9. Initially, the program deletion froze and I had to reboot (Roxio Content). I tried again and after about 30 minutes, everything came off. I followed your instructions and also manually deleted hidden files. I rebooted & reinstalled. This entire procedure took about 1 hr 15 minutes. Everything was fine FOR ABOUT AN HOUR! I was editing a project and it went beautifully. I foolishly thought my problems were over and then when I saved the project after a change, which I do after all changes, it froze. What did I do differently? NOTHING! The only way to get out of the program was to go to Windows Task Manager and shut it down. I then had to do the same for Roxio Creator 9 Home. I rebooted my PC and restarted Roxio Creator 9 Home. That took about 5 minutes to start. About 10 minutes ago, I attempted to restart VideoWave .... AND I'M STILL WAITING. THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE FINAL STRAW. Clearly this !@#$%@^@#$ program doesn't want to work on my computer. I am not wasting another second with it.

Thanks, BillW. I'll give this a try and let you know if it works.

    RunTime Error during emc9 Install

It was on "manual" and I switched to "automatic" and rebooted. I reopened Roxio Creator 9 Home and that took about 1-2 minutes. I then tried to open VideoWave from the Roxio Home page ... that was almost 5 minutes ago. This is not a low-end PC (see below) and there is no reason on Earth why this program should take forever to open, if it does at all. Like many other people, I am sick and tired of the b.s. I've had to put up with to get this program going. It works one minute and won't work the next. Before reading your suggestion, I was able to open VW but when I tried to open a different proejct, it froze. I've just ordered Vista and from what I've read, it seems to have a DVD authoring program. I'll try that before I make my decision about buying another program. I HAVE HAD IT WITH ROXIO and will never, never, never buy another one of their programs again. They clearly don't care about their users because if they did, someone from their Tech support team would be responding to these forums and offering help. In the 6 months I've been complaining about EMC 9, not one single Roxio person has emailed me or replied to a forum. Their tech support hours stink and are very user un-friendly. I can get into the on-line tech support once every 6-10 tries and when they do answer me, the answers are vague. And, as I've mentioned before, don't even get me started on RoxAnn. I asked RoxAnn recently about Vista and the response I got back had nothing to do with Vista. What language is RoxAnn supposed to be? Chin-glish? Clearly she doesn't understand English. BTW It's now been about 12 minutes since I launched VideoWave and nothing has happened. I tried launching PhotoSuite and got the splashscreen, but it's frozen and may or may not open sometime within the next hour.

    RunTime Error during emc9 Install

I am so glad to know that I'm not the only person having problems (major issues) with EMC 9. One minute it works and the next minute it freezes. I too am getting the runtime error and that's when I restart my computer, I get the first popup: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\9.0\SharedCOM\RoxWatchTray9.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unsual way. Please contact the application’s support team for more information. I hit “ok” and get the next popup: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\9.0\SharedCOM\RoxWatchTray9.exe R6025 - pure virtual function call I hit “ok” and popup disappears. I've tried (as suggested in another discussion) shutting down Norton and as many other programs in the System Tray as possible. Everything opens fine and I can work without problems on a project but after I save that project and try to open another, EMC 9 and VideoWave freeze and I'm right back to the beginning. I'm not running Vista. I'm not running IE 7. I'm not running Windows Media Player 11. Does anyone from Roxio's Tech Team read these discussions? Most other software companies have someone who monitors and responds. Why does Roxio bother to sponsor these forums if they don't look at them?

    Okay, so now what...?

I spoke too soon. Roxio worked fine for ONE project. One project. Just one and then it went right back to its old tricks.

    EMC 9 + McAfee = Disaster

I spoke too soon. Roxio worked fine for one project that I had already saved. It opened fine and I as able to convert it to MPEG. But after that, it went back to it's usual bad behavior. And, once again, am stuck with a useless program. I haven't responded to this discussion group for awhile as I've been busy with other things in my life (work, cleaning house, etc). After I opened the one project and converted it, I tried to open another one that was much smaller. The above-mentioned project was about 31 minutes. The smaller project took forever to open and when I tried to save it, the VideoWave froze. So...here I am once again, extremely unhappy.
  7. I reached a moment of total bliss today when I realized that, without any traces of McAfee on my computer, EMC 9 works okay. A 60-day trial of McAfee came installed on my Dell Dimension 9200 and it seemed every time McAfee did an update or virus scan, EMC 9 crashed. I deduced that McAfee was the primary problem and many people doubted me. So, if you have McAfee on your computer and are having problems with EMC 9, remove McAfee (refer to my previous discusson "So, now what...?") and you'll be laughing just as I am now.

    Okay, so now what...?

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! And once more, thank you!! I had removed McAfee using the Windows remove program but that didn't take everything off. I also used a program from McAfee's website but that left a few fragments. I then used the link above and finally got McAfee off my PC and lo! and behold, EMC 9 works fine. So, fellow Roxio users, this (hopefully) is the last you'll hear of me complaining about this program. I'm a very happy camper.

    Okay, so now what...?

I mentioned in the first posting in this forum ... the splash screen for any program within EMC opens but doesn't go further. I go into Windows Task Manager > Processes and delete all references to "Roxio" and sometimes VideoWave will open but I can't do anything in it. In most cases, that's all that happens. (Refer to the first entry in this forum).

    Okay, so now what...?

I still have IE 6 and WMP 10 and I haven't purchased Vista yet. If McAfee isn't the problem, why did EMC 9 stop working after I installed an update to it? A couple of days later, it started to work okay, and then after McAfee did a virus scan, EMC stopped working again and hasn't worked since, despite the fact that I removed McAfee? This was over a month ago. Since then, I've removed McAfee since it was only a 60-day trial and I didn't like it, on many levels and I've removed EM9 and reinstalled it twice and still NOTHING. I've seen on other forums as well as in a Dell discussion group that Dell PCs may be the issue, but I can't get any answers from Dell either. The strange thing is that EMC worked 100% okay after I installed it and then for some unknown reason, it stopped and NO ONE WANTS TO HELP ME. I know for a fact that I'm not alone and I feel that Roxio is 100% responsible for this program. Why don't they post something to all registered users indicating that they're aware there is a problem and they're working on it? Clearly they don't give a hoot about their users and their "solution" is to produce new versions of a bad program.

    Okay, so now what...?

Summary of problems ... if I open the Roxio Media Center or any program, the splash screen opens and hangs until I go to Windows Task Manager > Processes and shut down everything to do with Roxio. Sometimes the program will open after this is done but I can't do anything becuase it freezes on me. I've cleaned my hard drive which is about 80% free. I've got Norton installed because the 60-day McAfee trial that came with my Dell seemed to be the primary cause for the problems which, btw, didn't go away when I removed McAfee. Oh, and i found some McFee files that I can't delete and when i try to contact McAfee, I don't get anywhere. Are they owned by Roxio? I've logged into RoxAnn and feel that I may as well be talking to a brick wall. I've tried the Technical support emails and they're even less helpful than RoxAnn (if that's at all possible). The tech support line is open 8-6 M-F EST. Guess what?! Like millions of other people, I work roughly the same hours. So, how the (BLEEP) am I supposed to get in touch with them? Do I book a day off work and waste it on the phone with an idiot who can barely speak English or who will treat me like I'm new to Earth? Who do they think uses this program? Seniors who have all the time in the world? So, what it boils down to is that I have a program on my computer that is useless!
  12. Just check the EMC boards and you'll see that I've b****ed and moaned about EMC 9 a lot. I admit it. I also know I'm not the only one. Just for fune, I googled "I hate roxio" and found a lot (a lot!) of people around this great planet of ours feels the same. I can't get a hold of tech support. I can't return it and get a refund (I bought this !@$#Q$% program in Oct 0686). I can't use the program. Roxio doesn't give a hoot. So, what's the next step? I'm more than happy to hear what others have done. As you can see below, I'm using a high-end Dell system that's only 3 months old, so please don't recommend that I upgrade anything. As Dr Frasier Crane says, "I'm listening..."
  13. What program did you get? I've been looking into Cyberlink DVD Director but can't seem to find a Canadian reseller. Unfortunately, I'm too late to return EMC 9 for a refund becuase I stupidly bought it direct from Roxio and it's been more than 30 days. I suppose I can use the CD as a coaster... I too have uninstalled & reinstalled a couple of times with no luck. My Dell Dimension 9200 (which I received Dec 22) came with a 60-day trial of McAfee and initially, I thought this was the problem but after removing McAfee, it hasn't made any bit of a difference. Clearly Roxio released a major dud of a program but they don't have the balls to admit it. I won't be surprised of EMC 10 comes out before the end of Q2.
  14. I'm not running Vista yet nor am I running IE7 or Windows Media Player 11. I have Windows XP Media Center SP2 and it's 100% up-to-date. IE6, also up-to-date. and Media Player 10. I'm just glad to see that I'm not the only sucker, however, I had no problems with EMC 6 or 7.5. Why is 9 such a royal pain in the a**? And what really p****s me off is that Roxio is totally ignoring us. I bought EMC 9 because I thought it was an UPGRADE but turns out it was as DOWNGRADE. The least they can do is offer a 100% refund. But will they? No.
  15. Roxio's tech support line is open from 8-6 EST Mon-Fri and that stinks if you work in the same time zone and don't get home from work until 5 pm. I won't use RoxAnn because she's doesn't understand English. I've tried using the on-line support but have had an issue outstanding since February 10/07. It's obvious that Roxio doesn't monitor discussion groups. So, if you've got EMC 9 on your computer and can't use it, what can they do for you? Zip. Zero. Zilch. Nothing. Is there any way to contact someone in Roxio's tech support department on weekends? Evenings? Is it at all possible that someone out there can put me in touch with someone in tech support? I'm not going to repeat all the issues I have with this @%$@%$ program. Check my previous posts (since January 2007) and you'll see how angry I am.
