    Newbie Question

My simple goal is just to get the videos off of tape and on to my computer for safe keeping. I am using NXT3. When I capture the video of the camcorder, the file is saved as an *.avi file and each is ~12-14GB. I have the storage space so it isn't a problem but I am sure there is a way to keep the same quality but in a smaller sized video file. I just haven't played around with it enough to see what works best.

    Newbie Question

Yup. I bought the exact cable model specified by Canon and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks again for tips. My new challenge is figuring out the best way to compress these 14GB *.avi files without losing quality.

My TV does not have a S-video input.

    Newbie Question

Thanks again, everyone, for your replies and suggestions. I went back to the camcorder manual and confirmed the playback settings are correct. I am going to take a step back and try a new set of cables - placed the order and should be here in a few days. I am able to hear some muffled low audio from the laptop speakers so there is some connection being made. However, the software still indicates no input signal. I found an S-video cable around the house and used that to connect my camcorder to the Roxio Video Capture USB with the same results - no input signal indicated. Will update this thread as my troubleshooting continues - appreciate all the help.

    Newbie Question

Thank you for the responses. I have the camcorder hooked up to an AV to RCA cord. That cord is connected to the Roxio Video Capture USB device through the red/yellow/white cables (newbie remember). Using that setup, I hooked it up to the USB on my TV and it did not work. I also tried connecting it to the TV with just the AV to RCA cord (no Roxio VC USB). That didn't work either although the TV recognized something connected to the AV2 input. Try a new cable? I'm going back to the camcorder instructions to see if there is a setting on it somewhere that I need to change. Thanks again for your assistance and your patience with a noob like me.

    Newbie Question

Yes, the camcorder has a firewire port out but the laptop does not. That is why I am hoping I could use the Roxio Video Capture USB device and put that between my laptop and my camcorder. It looks like the software recgnzies the Roxio device but the status is reporting No Signal.

    Newbie Question

Hi Walt - I am hoping I can use the Roxio Video Capture USB device. The camera make/model is an old Canon NTSC ZR50MC Digital Video Camcorder. Any experience with this kind of setup?

    Newbie Question

Thanks for the replies. I have tried it on Windows 10 but it would not recognize the video feed. I did not try it on a previous version of Windows. Apologies for asking but what is NXT?

    Newbie Question

Non-techie and newbie here so apologize in advance for what could be a simple question. However, I haven't found an exact anwswer to my question.... Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 is NOT compatible with Windows10 at the moment. Is that a correct statement? If that is true, my follow-up would be: Are there plans to make it compatible with Windows10? Finally, if Windows10 and Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 will not work together.... Does anyone have a recommendation on how I can transfer videos from my miniDV tapes to my computer? Thank you in advance for dealing with newbie questions. I appreciate your patience and your cooperation.
