  1. Toast 20 has some new features like custom menus so here's some screenshots and videos of this feature and other review info. Here's a screenshot of the menu designer. you can select the items and move them on the screen.

Hi Pat, Sorry but I don't use it the way you do wanting chapter menus etc. I use the legacy themes because the "new" layout is a piece of crap to work with. My Toast 20 initially crashed but then i completely removed it and then reinstalled it and now I don't have any issues with it crashing. If I get a chance I might try and do what you're doing to see if I can replicate the issue. It's not right that we have to do Roxio/Corels job but they won't do it aside from taking our money and providing somewhat diminished customer service. Matt

    Customized Classic Themes!!!!!

I have successfully created a new version of the theme CUT (16x9) where it has up to 9 buttons for videos. I have the photoshop .psd file that you would just download and replace your existing Cut (16x9).psd file with this one. I created this because I like to use all the available room on a blue ray disc before I burn it and waste half of it. The reason for the buttons being off to the right is so I can load a custom background image with the disc info, or a graphic etc on the left side. You can move the buttons anywhere you want on the screen, just make sure you select the whole group. You can find this file on your mac in MacintoshHD/Library/Application Support/Roxio/Toast Menu Styles/ (whatever your boot drive is called is the start of the path. Not using the Library in the users folder. I've done extensive testing with it and if you find any issues at all, please let me know. FYI: it's not hard to do if you have Photoshop. Just click on file, go to the same path and open the .psd file that you want to modify. If you want to add more buttons, just right click on the button name in the layers list and choose duplicate group. Then just give it a name like button 7 if thats the next button. Rinse and repeat for more buttons. Matt Cut (16x9).psd.zip

I have just finished modifying the theme file for Cut (16x9).psd to allow up to 9 videos with thumbnails and space for a graphic on the left side. I have included the zipped .psd file in that post. The post is here:
  5. I created a version of the Cut (16x9).psd file that works in Toast 19 and Toast 20. The post is in the Toast 20 section here: If you want to be able to do up to 9 videos on a disc, go there and download the .psd file.

I've even tried Nero Platinum running under Parallels and it works, but it wants to re-encode everyhing. Tried Leawoo, it strips out 7.1 digital sound to 2 channel. Toast strips 7.1 as well and won't even down code to 5.1. Using 7.1 AAC which Toast is supposed to support AAC, it won't work. My Frustration level is SKY HIGH!

Well I've known all along since Corel bought ROXIO that their customer service SUCKS and since they seem to have the only "BluRay creation" program that you can stick a .m2ts file in and not have it spend hours encoding it, I'm stuck and keep paying the ransom. When will I learn? When will someone make a program and have customer service that actually listens and responds?

Did you get a Serial number for V20? I bought the download version and had no issues. Sorry you got V19.

Hi Pat, I don't work for Roxio but I'll try and help as much as I can. 1- You'll need to do this ALL in NEW LAYOUT and I seem to remember where I was able to add a video by dragging it to the left of the little menu icon. I haven't really played with this feature but when I do, I'll post about it. (Just Tried it.. DIDN"T WORK) 2- The video thumbnails will play the video that is for that added file. I'm not sure what you're looking for on this one. As for removing text, have you selected it and then hit the delete key? I don't know if that will work either (DIDN"T WORK EITHER). I've posted plenty of "pissed off owners of Corel Roxio Toast" but please remember, this is the first version they have released with custom menus and I'm sure they won't put it thru the paces like the users will. 3- As for subtitles, additional audio etc, you're looking for features that used to exist in DVD Studio from Apple and other higher end programs. If these capabilities exist, I haven't found them yet but then again, I only got the program upgrade yesterday. Matt

If you have the Pro version you can enable bluray burning. I don't know if it's a seperate plugin any more or if it's part of the main code that is activated. As for Monterey, I'm sure they''ll update it for compatibility. I'm not going to jump on Monterey because being an early adopter of Big Sur drove me crazy with issues. If you do decide to upgrade, I found a code to save and extra 20% on the upgrade: 20ROXIOSAVE Matt

SUGGESTIONS FOR PROGRAM IMPROVEMENTS: 1- Fix the menu system in the NEW INTERFACE so it doesn't add 4GB to the file size (and if the menu actually takes 4GB, somethings wrong!) 2- Allow Us to select if we want to re-encode or not with the same settings options as the Classic Interface has. 3- Allow us to design a menu and then save it and import it into Classic mode, or put the design engine in Classic mode as well.

CRASH! I HAVE 64GB RAM AND A 6 CORE I5 2019 IMAC 27" COMPUTER RUNNING BIG SUR. The file I was trying to burn to a bluray disc image was the same file shown in the picture in the previous post. It got to 40% within 1 minute then the other 29 minutes it just crawled until it crashed. Not feeling so good about this new version now. I'll test the same file in Classic Mode and see what I get. UPDATE: I just dropped the same file in classic mode with a menu and it multiplexed and burned it to a blu ray disc image in less than a minute! Also, In the "New Mode" If you have add a menu, any menu, it adds 5gb to the file size bar. I removed the custom menu I had and burned the 2.5gb file to a disc image and it multiplexed and burned in less than a minute just like classic mode. CONCLUSION: the "New Mode" menu system is a killer during the encode burn process. I do expect that it does have to encode for the menu, but so did Classic mode and it did the menu and the file in less than 1 minute.

Here's a picture to highlight the file size issue. This file was taken right off a BluRay that Toast 19 made and it's only 2.5GB in size, but look at how big Toast 20 says it is. UPDATE: It seems that any time you add a menu in the NEW Layout, it adds about 4gb to the file size.

What I like so far: 1- Creating custom menus. This looks like a great addition to the software and it has very good editing capabilities from what I've seen so far. 2- Looks like Corel fixed the problem in Classic Mode where you clicked on Edit one of the video's and it would NOT display the video so you could accurately set beginning/end of the clip. I just tested it on .mp4, .mov and .m2ts and they all show the videos now. About Time it got fixed! What I don't like so far: 1- Can't create custom menus in Classic Mode where we can better control the burning process 2- When you load a video, the filesize isn't showing the file's actual size based on the bit rate and there's no control over the bit rate. 3- It seems in "New Mode" it wants to encode everything and it took 21 minutes to burn a 3.8GB file to a toast disc image Is the Upgrade worth the $$? It seems to me that Corel must have actually hired someone to work on Toast that knows something about creating video discs because the program seems much smoother in it's operation than any other version since Corel destroyed Toast after they bought Roxio. I will continue to learn about the "new mode" when I need custom menus, otherwise I'll keep using "Classic Mode" where I can have more control. If Corel would allow custom menu import into Classic Mode , THAT WOULD BE GREAT, OKAY! Matt

Simple Custom Menu with 3 videos and a 30 second video clip with audio in the background NOTE: custom menus CANNOT be used in classic mode so no control over encoding. I didn't select a 16x9 background video or it would have covered the whole window. Also, I didn't play with the button styles or text colors. This was just a quick video to show a basic custom menu. Creating Custom Menu and Burning BluRay The Guide on creating a custom menu needs some work but I think I have it figured out. You can add a video with sound or an image once you click on the background editor button. For a video you can select a 30 second segment in the video you select and it will loop when it's played. I haven't tried it in "Classic Mode" yet because I don't think you can do custom menus in Classic. I'll update this post after the current burn to disc with a custom menu is finished. It's been 8 minutes and it's only 57% thru the burn. For anyone that wants to cruise thru the help guide here's the link: https://help.corel.com/toast/v20/en/official-help/index.html#page/toast%2Fh1-introduction.html%23 Here's the link to the comparison of the standard vs pro software https://www.roxio.com/en/products/toast/pro/#compare

What I've found so far: It can convert files to .mkv but you can’t burn .mkv (this was no surprise) Loaded a 864mb .mp4 file and Toast says it’s 4.79GB (same old issue) It’s H.264/AVC, 720x480, 29.97fps Audio: AAC Toast should accept it and have the correct size! Loaded a 1.75GB .m2ts file and it says it’s only 495MB. Loaded a 710mb . H.264/AVC, 1920x1080, 29.97 fps .mov file and it says it’s 1.36GB. It was recorded at 4mb/s and toast is bumping it to 8mbs even though I have NEVER reencode selected. If I manually decrease the bit rate in the customize settings down to the avg bitrate of the file according to MediaInfo.app, the file size goes down. They shouldn’t have any effect if ReEncode NEVER is selected. UPDATE: Burn to Disc Image Even though I said reencode never, it went thru a reencode step and that took about 30 seconds, then multiplex and then burn. The whole process took about 2 minutes for 2GB final result on bluRay disc image.
