    Installation keeps rolling back

I had the same problem. Use a unzip program, and extract the first exe that was downloaded into a directory. Run the setup.exe from that directory and hopely it will work for you as it did for me. You can then run the second exe downlaoded and the contents download.
  2. I purchased/downloaded Creator 2010 Pro yesterday. I made several attempts to install. The process would get to the installing the video capture USB section then roll back and state it was interrupted. Finally I unzipped the first downloaded exe file to a folder on my hard drive and installed from there. The install then finished. I was then able to run the second downloaded exe with the word disc2 in the filename. The install of the blue-ray add-on went perfectly. Install may have just been something astray on my computer. I tried all the programs and each started great and registered when required. The application appears solid. Good work Roxio.
  3. I run Vista 64 Ultimate, and Creator 2009 installed fine, and all functions appear to work. I have however had several problems with other software installs. This is my recommendation to try since all else has failed for you. Follow the instructions for the clean install listed in this newsgroup, however prior to reinstall do the following: 1. On the control panel choice User Accounts, and turn off User Account Contriol. (Will turn it back on when done. This will require reboot) 1. After reboot, right click on each item on the right side of the taskbar, and exit every program there (If possible). 2. Suspend you anti-virus if possible 3. On the DVD from Roxio, right click the Setup or install and run as adminstrator. (I don't have DVD so don't know if it is setup or install) 4. On the control panel choice User Accounts, and turn on User Account Contriol. (This will require reboot) Hope this helps you. I am a programmer, and this is the only way I could get my programming language (Delphi) to install correctly.

    Roxio Creator 2009

gi7omy you are giving away your age. Obviously as old as rocks and I. I however got my first Apple I in Sept 1976, over 30 years ago, so it is possible, but unlikely given his writtings.

Wow! I'm Impressed. 2009 Looks Good So Far.

I couldn't agree more. I had so much trouble with Version 9 and Vista, that I gave up. I skipped version 10 out of anger. I been with Creator almost since its beginning, so I couldn't stay away. I bought a new computer and thought I'd give version 2009 a try. With Vista 64, it is a great experience, I'm glad to be back also.

Vista will not let you install Version 9, as it comes with Version 10. It just tells you a newer version is already installed, and then quits.

    Uninstaller leaves many files behind

I am not sure what you mean by someone like me. Do you mean 20yr USMC retired. Do you mean 20yr programmer/analyst Or are you resentful that I was a Senior Programmer/Analyst by age 40. >69 posts and not a single contribution in the lot! I spent many hours troubleshooting the C++ Runtime error, and helped dozens while the advise here was just to stay away from Vista. I was the one to prove that if the 6.5 Divx bundle had ever been installed in Vista, massive clean installs would not fix the problem. The last time a had less then 10 staff was as a Corporal in the US Marine Corps. I think that was in 1994. You will see that most of my post are to protect the gang-ups of the so called Gurus here. I spent twenty years of my life preserving your right to verbally attack as well as aid users Perhaps we sure agree to disagree on the usefulness of attacks against fustrated users venting or looking for help.

    Uninstaller leaves many files behind

I just strolled over there, and returned. You were right, I was surpised. A problem reported just a week ago was already fixed. Here are my findings: Still only one uninstall. Several patches to correct user problems. I did a forums search, and could not find a single remark blaming Microsoft for the problems. They listen to their users, and instead of pointing fingers they use their fingers to fix things. It was not interference, it was concern for fellow users and programmers. I was not speaking for him, but relating my thoughts. Your qualifications? Other than submitting massive useful responses like the one I reacted too. Sorry if that offended you. I will try to be more gentle.

    Uninstaller leaves many files behind

I think he is just stating know facts. On my computer I currently have several Vista certified suites with one single uninstall in the control panel. Those blaming MS for requiring multi installs are totally confused: Vista Certified Suites, which by the way work right out of the box with vista, with a single install and no processes being shut down: Ulead MovieFactory 6+ Ulead VideoStudio 11 + Microsoft Office Professional Nero 8 I gave up on Roxio after dealing with Version 9, am awaiting release of 11 to try again. I love the interface. I figure by version 11 they should be ready for Vista. With a fresh Vista install the programs seem to run, but if you install anything else on your machine, they may break.

Life is too short for this...

I have been a computer programmer for more than 20 years. I have written dozens of programs. Program for Vista daily, and have never had the problems that EMC9 caused me ever before. Less finger pointing and more quality assurance is needed by Roxio, and you guys have to lighten up. After months of trying to get EMC9 running correctly on Vista, I have giving up and moved to another product for my video needs. I was going to give Version 10 a try, but several friends that also had trouble with version 9 are having problems with 10. It does not appear to be software friendly. I am not willing to completely start from scratch, and reinstall Vista and all others. I have elected to try again with Version 11 when it arrives. I have un-subscribed to the Roxio e-mails twice, and still today received the Oct Digital Media Report. I tried to un-subscribe to that also but get an unknown e-mail address error. Even the Roxio mail has problems? How do I tell Roxio, don't call me, I'll call you?

    EMC 10 or EMC 9-

It would appear that functionality was removed from 9.1 to create Version 10. Most companies rewrote their products to become compatible with Vista. Roxio seemed to have removed any components that had problems with Vista. Ex. Drag&Drop, Backup My PC, Disc copier for data, and then put it out as a new version to be repurchased. I think I'll reconsider purchase at Version 11.

Backup My PC after 9.1 update

You could do as I did awhile back. Complain to the Better Business Bureau (www.bbbsilicon.org). This made me feel better, and got me results.

    Anyone going to try EMC10?

I had many problems with 9.0, and forced a version of 9.1 out of Roxio. I could not get 9.1 to cooperate with my other software. Knowing you had no problems with 9.0 on your vista machine, takes away the confidence I should have knowing you had no problem with 10.0. I have completely removed EMC and replaced it with my second favorite video editing software. That software has zero problems with Vista, and worked right out of the box. I will keep an eye on the forums, and return back to my favorite, when it is proven stable on Vista. I am having a hard time getting over the sour feelings left by Roxio customer support (including some of the none Roxio members of this board), but I really miss my EMC.

Roxio and non patched Vista, a certified union?

Known to be broke in February, still not working today, enough said.

    Anyone going to try EMC10?

Are you going to try it on Vista or XP? An evaluation based on XP would not be much of a value to me. Having felt the pain of version 9, I shall wait and read the forums about 10 for a long time before making that move. I uninstalled version 9 and am using different software to get the job done, but would return to EMC if they can get a stable version for Vista.

EMC also worked great for me when I was running XP. After changing to Vista, life with EMC became unbearable. Spend hundreds of manhours trying to get everything to work. Thru the Better Business Bureau, got Roxio to send me links to 9.1 version. This version worked completely with a fresh install of Vista, but was broken by the installation of many programs. I moved on to another package for Video Work. I have been with EMC since the Adaptec days, and love it. On the transaction from Win98 to XP, EMC had some serious pains, but updates (Attempted fixes) were available. That is not the case with Roxio and Vista. Because when working, I believe there is no better consumer product for Video then EMC, I will try to return to EMC around SP1 for Version 10.

    Changing Password for this forum

The help says I can change my paasword if I know my current password. I can not find the option. Thanks in advance.
  21. These fixes by Microsoft did not help with my Vista EMC 9.1 problem. Problem: Disc Copier - Video Complilation Add Divx file Set Destination format to DVD Press Burn Choose save disc image file Hangs at Phase 1 of 1 (0%) 8% completion forever Hitting the cancel button will change to Phase 1 of 1 (Cancelling, please wait..) forever The program is obviously calling and waiting on another program, but communication is not working. Can only kill the process from task manager I do not think it is the divx file or programs, as if I choose destination format of MPG it works. I have latest video drivers, and Vista has DX10. I still swear that all problems are with Roxio, as all the other 30+ programs on my computer are running fine.

Newest Version of EMC Suite 9?

I was one of the ones that had Version 9.0 will lots of problems. I forced Roxio to give me Version 9.1 by sending the Better Business Bureau after them. I spent weeks working with Version 9.1 which did not fix my problems. I clean installed Vista (More than 9 times from a True Image) and proved to my satisfaction that Version 9.1 on a windows machine that never had Divx bundle installed worked every time. But if Divx bundle had EVER been installed, even version 9.1 has problems. I see today that divx.com finally released a Vista version of Divx bundle, so maybe Roxio can now get serious and get the patch out. My videowave C++ error was not from Videowave but was from the windows open folder component not being able to extract the icon from an invalid link file. Roxio's only mistake was trusting that the API call to the open folder function would be successfull, and not trapping the error. That one will be easy to fix. My only remaining problem is if I use disc copier with a video compilation and burn DVD format to a disc image file, it will hang. I know now that forcing Roxio to give you version 9.1, will not solve anything. With a flesh install of windows, EVERY piece of EMC works great. I think the patch will be more thoroughly tested, and will correct both Microsoft and Divx problems as well. I think Roxio probably did good testing with EMC 9.0, but on a virgin Vista machine. My guess is that Roxio does not want to finger either of these companies as their product relies on them so much. I know nothing I have offered will help fix your problem, but I hope it makes you feel better.

    EMC 9.1 Videowave error

When I use Videowave, and select Add Photo/Video, after a couple of seconds the error below appears: Microsoft C++ Runtime Library Program:...oxio Easy Media Creator 9 Suite\VideoUI9\VideoWave9.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

    EMC 9.1 Videowave error

My problem was solved. There was a lnk file in my documents folder that was invalid. When videowave opened the dialog to let me pick the video file to add, the Open file windows component would try to extract and display the icons for the applications in the folder and would fail with that error. I created a directory called bob, moved everything from my document directory into it. I then tried videowave with the empty document folder and it worked. I then brought the subdirectories back into documents one at a time, trying videowave after each, and it worked. I then took the files that were in the root directory of documents one at a time until videwave crashed. When I found the file, I move it to the recycle bin, and videowave was happy. I then took the file from the recycle bin back to the desktop, and videwave crashed again. I recycled the file and have not had a problem since. The file was a link leading to a VPN connection that no longer exists.
