  1. Drag to Disk is gone, not much else works anymore. I'll save my rant till last. The program frezzes when I try to add a 'movie' to my project. I even tried a work around that got me that error message. Oddly, it will cheerfully burn any completed project. I can create and save a new project. but I can't add a file to it, and I used to be able to do that. Perhaps a reinstall is in order. /begin rant: I've put up with this since a v.4 something included with something, and since then I paid my dues up to nine. Then they want me to pay for a point version as in v.9.5. I'll pay if I can get a working program but if Roxio can't even make my program work now, why would I pay out more money for something else that doesn't reliably work? I'm not an amatuer at encoding and burning issues nor am I an expert. /end rant Brent OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name MERLIN System Manufacturer INTEL_ System Model D865PERL System Type X86-based PC Processor x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2992 Mhz Processor x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2992 Mhz BIOS Version/Date Intel Corp. 2. Yeah, point taken. I didn't actually try to run the program while I had Mcafee removed. I dont think it CAN run while McAffee is installed. I'm more concerned about the forum 'lock out.' Ever hear of that happening before? That's a deal breaker for a lot of less savvy users. "What? I'm not even allowed to complain?!?! Why you, you...." Yeah, it's not on purpose, but it doesn't SEEM that way. I'm good now, just worried about the next fellow or gal who thinks, wrongly, that Roxio took their money and let them down when really McAffee is the culprit. Thanks for all you do Gramps. You other guys too. Brent
  3. Good points all around but no. Apparently it was McAfee's Total Protection package in combination with Roxio's installation mess. I also have a different key number on file here in my Roxio Store account for this version than the one I got in the EMC9 case. This is the pointless reply from Support Help Ticket: No, that's not my cd key, wrong format (xx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx) It's for a codec pak. Desabling the virus services and fireware did not help and it's hard to do in the new versions anyway. Oh, and emc9rmv? It's a Trojan. Won't run. So, scrub scrub scrub for Roxio and Sonic. I also took out Adaptec too since I think their bundled software for a TV tuner is kinda Sonicky. Roxio doesn't have a dedicated uninstall tool but McAfee does: https://download.mcafee.com/products/licens...tches/MCPR2.exe Moderators take note: this also cures the msconfig permissions error but after reinstalling EMC9 and Mcafee the error is back (although the error is itself in error because I can't find any service that didn't change the way I wanted it to using msconfig.) I even got locked out of this forum until I finished all this! How does that happen? The original post in this thread was my last until now. I couldn't log in to ask a question or post a follow up. Clck on 'log in' and it just blinked at me. VERY frustrating. It could be there are people out there spitting mad because it appears that Roxio is shutting them out and you can't recieve their complaint to tell them the fix! I'm a lot more persistant than most people you know. It's like walking up to a friends house but they got those automatic drapes that happen to coincidentally close just then and you think they are shutting you out but really they're not even home. I refuse to believe that my case is so unusual that this has never happened to anyone else...lots of anyone eleses in fact. This ought to be pinned IMHO. If someone has McAfee, I think they should remove it FIRST and maybe that's all you need before doing all that other stuff. I'll believe that until someone tries it anyway. Brent long post - these are the nightmare situations that cost people money and reputations.
  4. I tried this stuff, but I still can't install: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000127CR My error is "The CD key that you entered is not valid. Please re-enter your CD key and try again." What gives do ya think? Thanks Brent

    9.1 Patch / INVALID KEY?!

Is this your link? http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000127CR I haven't done all this yet, but I will advise when I do. BTW my situation has nothing to do with Vista. still using venerable XP Pro 32 sp2. Brent

    9.1 Patch / INVALID KEY?!

OK, same problem. I also checked my filed registration here online in "My Account" for EMC9 and it shows a different key than the one in the inside of the case! I bought a boxed disk upgrade shipped to me last November 19th. I had it working for a while then Drag to Disk started playing badly with others and I had to msconfig him. Then EMC quit altogether with an error message suggesting I reinstall. Ironical, ani't it? I moved just about then and didn't have any work until recently which is why I'm reinstalling now. I can't get permission to delete the Roxio folder. That's after using Uninstall and Clean-Up and finding some pieces of v7 here and there not uninstalled. This is after v5 v7 v7.5 v8, and various fixes and add-ons. I understand the R&D it takes to keep this current with changing standards and formats but customers expect someone to show a great concern when they are out the dough and it don't work. Thanks to the volunteer heros who hang out here. Brent

    Media Import stutters viewing TV

To send an e-mail to tech support I have to "Ask Roxanne." Then "Chat" comes up but doesn't work because somebody forgot to pay the bill to the folks who own the chat software. Then I get the tech e-mail forms but they bounce the browser when I submit them. Next step is to call them, but now it's after 6:00pm EST. Well, I did get a couple of good hints from Roxanne, but no details on how to change them, like DMA. Yes, all my drives are DMA enabled if that's what she means. Also to close all DVD players, but not how to do it unless she means programs I'm using. If any players are 'running' in the background I don't know it, but CinePlayer is on here....Roxanne, darling, is there something you want to tell me? [insert pointless mean-spirited off-topic rant against Roxio Support here.] So I'm sorry, but that's just how I feel about it. But seriously, they usually waive the support fee in cases where somebody actually tried to find a fix. I'll let you know. Thanks, Brent New news Wed 12/06/06: I just dicovered that in Media Import when I click 'Capture Now' the sound smooths out although the picuture still stutters. It freezes momentarily then resumes synchronized with the sound. Is this called 'dropped frames?' (I thought that would involve static.) Also, the sounds stays better after recording stops and >sometimes< the video as well.

    Media Import stutters viewing TV

Thanks guys, I appreciate your time. I'm still digging too. My Adaptec card with the silly name is model #2410 on the list. http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000067CR Yeah, I was afraid this merger might leave me with a Frankenstien setup. You would think that if there was that much difference, they would retire the name. It's like Chevrolet putting an Impala label on that little econobox of theirs. But since this is supposed to be a supported card, I guess I'm going to have to [shudder] contact Customer Support. Keep me in your prayers. Thanks, Brent

    Media Import stutters viewing TV

Thanks for the response James, if only for the comfort of knowing someone cares. But I apologize to you; my mea culpa is that I left out an important detail: The included software IS MyDVD! Ok, along with WinDVR3. In fact they go to some length to praise MyDVD in their Knowledge Base: "Question: Why is a capture using Windows Movie Maker not working? Answer: The VideOh! products cannot be used by Windows Movie Maker to capture video, as they are not designed to work under the application. The software supplied with the units - MyDVD - was written specifically for the Adaptec drivers to capture video. It provides a solution for you to convert analog camcorder video to digital format. Other capture programs that are not designed to accommodate the VideOh! capture device, might not work as well. Most of these software programs can capture video in a common format or digital format, but are not capable of converting an analog signal into a digital format. This is where the MyDVD program comes into the picture. MyDVD uses high quality video CODECs (CODer/DECoder) that will allow you to capture analog video and convert it into either an MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 format." But MyDVD on the Adapter installation CD won't install over a newer version, and I've got the latest and greatest. It's one of the reasons I chose the VideOh! (isn't that a cute name?) because if it CAME with MyDVD then I figure it will be compatible with my Creator 9 Suite which I upgraded from 8 for just this purpose. And I can't uninstall MyDVD9 by itself so I could install v.5something. Maybe I should post this problem under a different topic? Thanks, Brent

    Building a DIVX dvd question

    Media Import stutters viewing TV

I'm trying to play TV shows recorded on my DVR and capture them on my computer as they play. My Adaptec Videoh! card came with WinDVR3 which plays fine, but is clumsy for capturing. Windows MovieMaker won't connect to the card and shows an error message that the device is in use. (By whom?) Media Import 9 looks and sounds like a sticky magnetic tape: it jerks and drags so a long note sounds like it is rising and falling rapidly. I'm all backed up and defragged and updated all the drivers I could find (including soundcard.) I'm kind of at a loss. A little help please? Thanks Brent

    Adding ac3 audio codec?

DirectX is the latest. I haven't really checked the ac3 forum yet, but I wonder if there are others out there. That guy with the Win XP problem might not apply to 2000. Do you have Windows 2000 Pro? Or do I have a quirk? Went through NoAdware, Mcafee scan, and defraged the drives. Brent

    Adding ac3 audio codec?

Well, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still have the same thing. I do show it in Add/Remove Programs, but not Computer Manager or VideoInspector. This is AC3Filter version .070b, yes? It seems to be some kind of mixing program, but GSpot says it's a real codec .ax Seems odd that GSpot and VideoInspector disagree. Oh, and my audio/video etc. drivers are up to date. Brent

    Adding ac3 audio codec?

Anything I burn with ac3 audio comes out without sound. The avi files plays fine on Mediaplayer, but in Cineplayer no sound either. I have GSpot and VideoInspector. GSpot says I have the codec, Inspector says I don't and invites me to download it. That takes me back to where I downloaded it in the first place: http://ac3filter.sourceforge.nethttp://ac3...sourceforge.net I tried a couple other places but no luck. Also, my Windows 2000 Computer Management reports a list of installed codecs and ac3 ain't there. I'm stumpted. Can anyhelp suggest something? Brent
  15. Creator 8 doesn't work at all, so I reinstalled 7.5. When I attempt to 'Add New Title' in DVD Builder and open the folder with my saved files, the files flash on the screen then simply disapears, no error message, nothing. I heard a corrupted file could cause this. If there is a corrupted file in there, how do I tell which one it is? If it plays on Windows Media Player, it should be ok, right? I've done all the usual, defrag, run NoAdware and McAfee, upgraded hardware drivers, etc. I have a fairly new system and run Windows 2000 Pro SP4. The only new thing I just added was the DivX codec which solved my problem with Windows Media Player not playing some files and also Windows Explorer crashing when trying to look at those files. Could DivX be the culprit? Brent
