  1. Thanks for the response but I'm not sure it helps. I have upgraded to the latest version of Media Player (11) and have checked that I have DirectX9 installed. I've tried a 'clean install' making sure I removed all signs of Roxio/Sonic from my hard drive but still can't get EMC10 to work. I've even uninstalled again and re-installed a previous version of EMC (version 9) and I still get the same problem! I seem to have been around the houses on this one trying out all the advice I've seen in posts etc but nothing works. I'm almost tempted to completely reformat my PC and reinstall XP again but this takes soooo long it's a last resort.
  2. Can anyone put me out of my misery! I've spent days trying to fix EMC 10 but it just fails to launch. I get a runtime error R6025. I've trawled the Internet and the all the support pages and read all the entries from others having similar problems but try as I might I simply can't get EMC10 to work. It has done in the past but I haven't used it in several months and going back to it the other day to import some movie clips I started to get this problem. I've uninstalled and re-installed the program all to no avail. I've got Windows XP and DirectX 9.0c installed. Surely there must be a fix for this! At the moment the software is simply useless.

    Buttons not working

For some reason the buttons do not work on my finished DVD. They work when I preview the project but after I burn the DVD the buttons appear but are not selectable. All I ca ndo is use the cursor key to navigate between thumbnails on the menu. It doesn't matter if I burn straight to DVD or burn to an image first and then load the ISO image file. Either way the buttons cant be selected. I have not had problems on previous projects. The only difference with this project is that I had to choose the 'Fit to disc' option because I could get the project onto a DVD at the HQ setting (which is what I usually choose).

    No menus on finished DVD

Yes this is the screen I am seeing but it shows as Data disc rather than DVD Video. I don't have this on any other projects that I burn. For some reason this particular project burns the movie with no menus. However the menus do appear on preview in EMC10 AND they show when encoding the movie.

    No menus on finished DVD

Does anyone not have any more ideas? I have had an open ticket with Technical support for days and all I get back is repeated instructions to re-install the software or update the video card drivers etc. The problems I am experiencing happen with the software on a cleanly installed machine ie I have even gone to the length of completely rebuilding my PC and only re-installing the absolute minimum (MS Office and EMC 10) ie no utilities, no anti-viris or firewall etc, and making sure all the drivers are up to date. Still get the problem, so I'm convinced it isn't anything to do with my PC.

    No menus on finished DVD

Er... If I try to do this I get an error message saying 'The source and destination are incompatible" ?????? I am using the Copy DVD option as you recommend, putting the ISO image file as the source and my DVD Rewriter drive as my destination with a blank DVD in the drive ready to copy. So this doesn't work either!! I still think it has something to do with the ISO file showing as Data disc in the type column rather than DVD Video althought I dont know how to ensure that a DVd Video image is burned. I dont think I am getting anywhere with this as no-one appears to be able to offer a sloution and I am just going round and round in ever decreasing circles!!!!!

    No menus on finished DVD

I'm confused!! What you have provided as instructions is exactly what I did, step for step! The problem is that no menus appeared. This response relates to an old post and I have moved on from there and tried loading the ISO file in an emulated drive (suggested by a lter post) and this indicates that the ISO file relates to a 'data' disc rather than a DVD-Video disc. This is despite the fact that I chose DVD Video when I created the project initially and when I look at project settings it still shows up as a DVD Video disc! I'm therefore confused as to why the project burns to a file that is showing as 'data'. What I want to know is how can I change this project somehow so that it burns a DVD with menus because they (i) are clearly there in the project (ii) show when I animate each menu (iii) show up when I preview the DVD (iv) display in the encoding preview screen when I burn the project. It really shouldn't be this difficult and this is making me tear my hair out with frustration. I have hlf a mind to wipe the whole lot, recapture the video tape and start all over again creating the chapters, menus etc etc. I spent many hours creating and editing this project in the first place but I seem to be spending more time trying to get the software to work as expected.

    Audio clips and chapter tumbnails

Thanks. I followed your advice and can now get clips to play longer than 30s. However when is the bug with the length of the clip beinfg defaulted back to 30s going to be resolved? This is driving me nuts because after amending the menu to be the length I want eg 90s I then find that when I open the settings it keeps changing back to 30s and if I forget to do this I end up saving the project with 30s music clips again. Surely this should have been resolved by now if it was in the previuos version of the software ie why release a major new version of the software if all the bugs reported in the previous one haven't been resolved? That doesn't give me much confidence in the software!

    No menus on finished DVD

Trid loading the ISO file in an emulated drive. The file shows up as a Data Disc in the Type column rather than a DVD disc ? I assume this is something to do with the problem as my other ISO files show up as 'DVD video' discs when I load them in the emulated drive. However the project itself when loaded clearly says it is a 'DVD video' type project and I always pick DVD Video for new projects. What setting is causing the output file to be burned as a data disc?? As I said in previous posts, the DVD menus show on preview in MyDVD and the menus show as being encoded when I burn the project. Is there something I can do to convert the project somehow so it doesn't keep burning 'data' rather than DVD Video discs??

So where would I go from here? What settings are actually causing the menus not to be displayed on DVD (even though they show when previewed in MyDVD)?

    No menus on finished DVD

Hi Tom. Read your response, thanks. Not sure though how this helps. As I'm relatively new to this suite I have been using as much automation as possible rather than doing things manually so, for example, I have not created menus myself but ticked the option that generates menus automatically from the chapters I have created ie I split a single movie clip into panels, and let Roxio create both the chapters and menus automatically. All I then do is basically change the titles of the menus and burn. I've been following the same process for all my projects which have created DVDs with menus. On this one occasion no menus appear. ihave since left this project to one side and gone on to my next camcorder tape, followed exactly the same process and the finished DVD has menus!! I'm not entirely sure what the project view has to do with this. This view looks the same whether I load a project that works or the one that doesn't work (the structure is the same, only the titles of the menus are different because the clips are different.

Yes , from MyDVD I used the Burn DVD option but instead of burning directly to DVD I burned to hard disk which created an ISO file. I watched the monitor while this was running and I saw the menus being encoded in the preview screen. The task finished successfully and craeted an ISO file. I then went back to the main EMC 10 Suite and chose 'Burn image to disc' from the Copy menu (last option on menu). The DVD was successfully created. However no menus appear on playback no matter what DVD player I playback the DVD on. I then re-opened 3 previous projects (one after the other) which were created exactly the same way and I went through exactly the same procedure ie creating an ISO file first then burning this to DVD. For the final project I actually tried burning directly to DVD. In all these cases the menus were on the final DVD which suggests there are no problems with DVD burning!!!

    No menus on finished DVD

Apologies I wasn't specific enough. I am using MyDVD in EMC 10 Suite (I recently upgraded from EMC 9). I have been studiously going through my old Camcorder tapes, first capturing them to hard disk and then editing the clips to create DVDs. I always start off by launching MyDVD from the main suite and then adding the clip (which is a single large clip captured from Hi8 camcorder tape. I then split the clip into a number of panels, create the chapters from these, add the transitions etc etc. This typcally involves editing the movie in Videowave and then returning to MyDVD by pressing 'Back to Menu' so yes the main two apps used are MyDVD and Videowave (I also use the Copy section in the main suite to Burn the image to DVD as the final operation). I then preview the finished project and finally when happy I burn to DVD. As I have had one or two crashes going straight to DVD I now burn to Hard Disk first to create an ISO file and then burn the image to DVD. This has all been working OK until my latest movie. I went through exactly the same process as before. When I was burning to hard disk I even saw on the preview screen that the menus were being encoded and the image file created successfully. However when I look at the DVD after I have burned the ISO file, it doesn't have any menus at all. It just satrts playing all the chapters one after the other (with transitions) and if I try to go to the title or root menu (from CinePlayer - I have also tried using other players such as Windows Media Player and my home DVD player) I just go back to playing the first chapter. I haven't changed the project settings at all. I am using the ones I have used for a while ie PAL, HQ, Interlaced etc etc. Any ideas ? I have since re-opened the previous project file I made, burned that project straight to DVD and that DVD worked with all the menus (as it had done previously). Why ????

    No menus on finished DVD

When I preview my latest project before burning, all the menus work OK. When I then burn to hard disk, the menus are showing as being encoded. I then burn the image to DVD. When I playback the DVD no menus appear and all I see are the clips. I haven't had this before - all my previous efforts to create menus were successfull. Anyone any ideas? When I post problems like this to the support pages all I get back are the same standard responses to update my drivers etc which I already have.

    Audio clips and chapter tumbnails

Followed your advice but didn't work. When I Edit the background I can see one panel un Videowave editor representing the backround image that is about 15 s in duration (nb I am using the Grid menu style). I changed to Projector menu style to see if this differed and the lenght changed to 20s. When I add an Mp3 audio track it is added to the music track for the same length corresponding to the panel ie either 15s or 20s. The Fit Video/Audio option is greyed out and can't be selected. Therefore both the background panel and the background music track are fixed at whatever length the original menu panel is and I can't change either. When I return the the menu editor and click Show Settings the Duration box has an upper limit of the panel length ie 15s or 20s. Does that make sense?.
