  1. Hello, I have a PowerDirector 11 to burn AVCHD video and it has editing abilities using Dual Layer DVD disc's. Anyway it seems easier/faster to copy the disc using Roxio NXT instead of going through the process of burning another copy from PD. For some reason Roxio NXT does not see the Dual Layer Disk as being Closed and displays it as an open disk.. Cyberlink says that any single or dual layer disk is closed when it finishes the burning. Does anyone have an idea why it see the Dual Layer as open? Single Layer are seen as a closed disc. Thanks James

Closed Dvd Dl Seen As Open

Cyberlink says the disk is closed. But the Roxio software shows it as open. I can only assume compatablity issue between each of the two programs Below is a pic of the disk from 'Get Info' from Roxio. As you can see it says 'Open' this is the only reason to believe there is an issue. Attempting to understand the 'Why' of the whole issue. It does play on the Blu Ray Player and I guess that is the bottom line.

Below is a response from Cyberlink on the PowerDirector/Roxio issue of Dual Layer disc showing 'Open'. Dear James, Thank you for writing back. I would like to inform you that every software have different-different standard for making and burning to the disc same follow for Roxio and PowerDirector. In PowerDirector after burning Video DVD 4.7 Or 8.5 GB disc it will automatically closed. Thanks and Regards, Gaurav CyberLink Technical SupportBelow is a reply from PowerDirector on the issue at hand.

Closed Dvd Dl Seen As Open

PowerDirector does allow for 'Producing' the video so I will experiment with importing into Roxio to see how it burns to the Dual Layer disc. I was using the Roxio 'Copy Disc' feature to do the copy, speeds up the copy/burning by 10 minutes over burning another copy directly from Powerdirector. If the dual Layer can not be finalized how does that affect playback on other devices, since I do get that message about non-finalized disc could have problems. I have not noticed any issues playing on my Blu Ray Player with these disc. I have made some video for work requiring Dual Layer being send out to different locations and have not had any reports of the disc not playing. Those were standard MPEG DVD not AVCHD but still burned on Dual Layer (what they provided). Below is a pic of what I see from the program Thanks to all providing information.

    Photosuite Crashes/Slideshow

I purchased Creator 2010 Pro hoping it would solve a problem that occurred with 2009 Ulitmate. When I went to create a slideshow of pictures from my son's baseball games the module would crash. I had hoped that the latest version 2010 would have a fix but NO it still does not work. I had hours and hours (6 weeks) of tech support by email to fix the problem with 2009 and was even at the highest level of support and they did not have a solution. Other parts of the Photosuite also do not work but crashes when launched. Only a few features under Photo actually work. As of this time other features of Creator 2010 Pro seem to be working from my testing. Only be installed for 4 hours at the moment. I have sent tech support another support request on this version but I do not have much faith that even this time a fix will be supplied. So I may need to start looking for another program that works. This email support is getting tiring by itself to find a fix.

    Photosuite Crashes/Slideshow

Thanks for the reply Larry and Walt, I would agree that something is not installing correct but this is the same issue I have with Creator 2009 and all the uninstalls and clean installs, shutting down programs loading in the background and then reinstalling with that version did not correct the problem. Tech support never came up with another solution. Plus the problem seems to be the one module. I burned an audio cd this afternoon and it went smooth. I sent Roxio all types of info files of the system and they did not report anything with the computer itself.

    Photosuite Crashes/Slideshow

Jim, Each year you expect GM to fix issue's with past years models to address the consumer's complaints and improve the product. When they don't you wonder do they give a damm if they still have the same problem. Quess what GM needed a bailout! I have had Easy Creator for years but the last couple versions have had problems which don't seem to get addressed by the programmers and management. In 2009 they had me nuermous times uninstall, find my drives again, then reinstall. Well lets do it with all the background programs disabled, msconfig>disable startups etc>restart>reinstall>does it work>no>do this>still does not solve the problem. It is not like I am not troubleshooting from my side of the computer. Now for your EZ Test- Edit Video/Advance- fails to launch, there is a a runtime error R6025- pure virtual function call. So since it crashed I can not attempt the troubleshooting suggestion. Like I mentioned most of the features in Photo (just this one module, for the moment) does not work. Looks like everything of the features in the Photo module is broken except for the panaromas which says pictures need to be same dimension to be imported. Never used this one so will need to play with it but it does launch and opens to bring in photo's.

    Avchd Files

Can anyone tell me if Creator 2009 will allow output in full 1920x1080 format. I have a new Sony handycam using AVCHD and it records in th 1920x1080i resolution. I have found many software's out there will support AVCHD but in 1440x1080 and not the fulll HD format. If possible can you post a jpeg of the setting.

The same Handycam I am getting to know. Pictures looks great on the HDTV. Just trying to find out more on transferring/editing the recordings from the hard drive to other media and options. Purchased Vegas Modie Studio Platinum only to find that the AVCHD highest quality is 1440x1080 and not the 1920x1080 the camera records. Checking on the capabiltiies of this new version from Roxio with Creator 2009 still using EMC-9 for now but not for the video editing etc. Thanks for your input. James

    Compressed Disk Or Full Program

That was the confusing issue! I had purchased the program on disk and shipped to me and expected a retail box, just received Jewel box with two disks. NO backup disk, NO download requested. Thanks for all your help
  11. If I wa to purchase Creator 2009 from Roxio will the disk be a compressed version or full version. The last time the disk was compressed and when I tried to do a repair it asked for a file and with the disk being compressed it couldn't find it. I was then told it was the diffence of buying the store version (which would not be compressed) or the one from Sonic River or what ever the on line service they use. It was very annoying to find out this long after the fact and you just want to get the program to work again. Thanks to all.

    Avchd Files

Thanks for your information on the ablities of Creator 2009. At least if you have a 1920x1080 AVCHD files you can maintain them when transfering them to disk, instead of having to drop down in the quality.

    Compressed Disk Or Full Program

[quote name='ggrussell' date='Sep 1 2008, 08:32 PM' post='222303] Even if you purchase the compressed file, you can use any Zip application to uncompress the files and create your own disc. Many of us have done that. Most download services will compress the files so it doesn't take as long to download. As far as I know, Roxio has never used compression on an application disc. C2009 is probably on a DVD or two CDs. The EMC 9 that I had purchased from them ON DISK, turned out to be compressed with a program which ran to install and uncompressed it. When I went into Add/Remove and found an option to repair the program, it would ask for a file which was not on the disk for it to read. Doing what you suggested at the time I uncompressed it and created my own disk. The question was if I purchased the disk in a case and not the download why was it compressed in the first place. Some suggested I was sold a backup disk and the uncompressed vesion was only sold in the stores.
  14. Hello, Attempting to repair the EMC 9 to see if I could once again get it to work, doing a repair from the add/remove. I get 15 mintues into the repair and it asks for the Roxio Easy Media Creator.msi file or something close to this long file name. Dong a search on the cd does nothing becasue everything is compressed and searching the HD gets no where also. Does anyone know how to find this file? Why does Roxio make everything so hard to make the program work!!!!! I have had this problem of the program not launching off and on for several weeks now after installing it getting the upper/lower filters removed etc. I finally used the PX Engine file and did have the program working or at least it would launch the Suite selection box. But now it does not work again and using the PX Engine.exe file does not getting it working again. This is the same problem I had when trying to use EMC 10 but couldn't get it to work and asked for my money back. I had already purchased EMC 9 and couldn't return it so installed it and found out I had all these problems. Just don't remember having them with EMC 8 which way things are going I may have to downgrade even further. I have had EMC for years now but this is getting to wear thin with all the darn installs, uninstalls, clean installs. It takes a hour just to install it , too much time with very little accomplished in getting it to work.
  15. I was going to add some snap shots of what is listed on the disk but I don't see any method on this forum to do such. If any one know let me know and I can post 3 jpeg's showing the disk contents. Looks like currently the only way to find that .msi file is to expand the .exe file in the mail folder where the program is stored. I sent a email to Sonicstorecs@digitalriver.com asking about the product they sent me and see what their answer will be in I suppose a couple of days.
  16. I had purchase the program from Roxio jewel box and 2 disks duing a promotional of the EMC9 and I don't find the .msi file just the autosetup which I assume links it to the EMC 9 Suite folder on the disc for the installation. I purchase this from Roxio and they compress it all. Still does not explain why during a repair option from add/remove it can not find the compressed file from the disk ???????. Anyone from Roxio explain this????
  17. I will have to recheck the disk after the weekend. But the disk is from Roxio but with no .msi file on the installation disk. Just an autosetup to start the process then it starts to uncompress the program into a temp folder (assume). Later, Thanks for the help. Gone for the weekend as of now.
  18. Yea uncompressing the .exe file myself would be a idea. But you would believe that Roxio's own repair program could be able to decyper and find the .msi file. One solution for Roxio would be to place the programs on DVD's instead of cd-rom disks. Most everyone out there when they replace the drive they are going to purchase a DVD Burner for added capacity. I deleted the Roxio EMC 9 Suite listing in add/remove but nothing esle. I then reinstalled it which at the moment the Suite program listing's do launch now. I was able to copy a home DVD disk last night. Just the long headaches of redoing plus the time evolved.

    Uninstalling DivX nukes DVD drives

Would be nice if Roxio would give alittle bit more information sometimes when we troubleshoot issues. James

    Uninstalling DivX nukes DVD drives

Yea that did work after reinstalling EMC, but only if you can see your drives. I don't know what it would do if you don't have EMC installed. i thought Px Engine was more of a fix for EMC, but ???. The microsoft article's worked great to get the cd-rom drives back after they disappeared from windows after uninstalling the burning software. James

    Uninstalling DivX nukes DVD drives

Microsoft has an article about getting the recorders or cd-rom drive to be seen again after removing Burning Software. The article is 314060 and it has a program you can download to remove some registery code's for upper and lower filters. The article will describe manually but I used the program and it worked great. One experience i had after this was the burners were not seen as such. Microsoft article 316529 shows how to go into the registry to change a number assigned to the recorder to make XP see it as recordable again. James
  22. From Roxio Support Thank you for contacting Roxio Technical Support It is not immediately clear why this was not suggested in your earlier ticket; the hotfix that solved your problem was specifically developed to reset drive information in this exact case. If you would be so kind as to update this ticket with the email address or ticket number where you last tried to get support on this problem, I will personally review the ticket to see why we failed earlier. The PX engine update is actually more of a hotfix than a patch; one of its primary functions is to modify some Windows registry settings that can cause problems with drive recognition. Since it only applies when a problem occurs, we can't integrate it into our software. From Roxio Support The pxengine is a patch that repairs corrupted filters in the registry and is not part of easy media creator. It is to be only when these filters get corrupted and not to be run as part of Roxio. We wrote this patch for ease of repair instead of going into the registry as Microsoft recommends. There is no compatiblity with iTunes. If the information provided does not resolve your issue simply update your webticket with a detailed explanation with the steps you have tried and any error messages you receive. 23. I had this problem with Version 10 which I originally purchased as a download but support never really helped to solve this problem so returned it for a refund. I had EMC 8 installed and it had been working fine but had purchased EMC 9 a month before 10 become available and couldn't return it when 10 was released. Anyway to the problem. 1) all clean proceedure's have been done (many installs and uninstalls) and fixing the disappearing optical drives, SHAME ON ROXIO FOR NOT CORRECTING THIS WHEN UNINSTALLING 2) After installing EMC9 the program itself DOES NOT DETECT ANY DRIVES. The drag-to-disc feature see's the drive but when you click eject a pop up says the drive is busy, when it is not. Windows XP see's the drive and clicking on properities it shows I do have the record option tab. Thus far Roxio Support is extremely poor since they couldn't even help me on version 10 and I am stuck with EMC9. But if there is a solution for 9 i would believe it would work for 10 also. Thanks to all for any help. James
  24. I had already had XP seeing the optical drives again when installing EMC 9, sure made me nervous the first time I had uninstalled EMC 10 to use the clean procedure. But doing some searches on MS Knowledge Base they have an article #31406 which gives manual editing to get them back or download a program which would do it for you. It edits the Upper and Lower Filters. Also I found out XP didn't reconginze them as recordable but MS article #316529 gives you the path in the registry to change a setting which allows the drive to be seen as recordabel EMC 9 plus EMC 10 itself would not detect the recorder's and that was the next problem. Windows XP see's the drive's as recordable but EMC shows NO DRIVE DETECTED. I ran that PX Engine file, rebooted and EMC now see's my recorders. EMC 10 that I had dowloaded becasue of a special pricing also had this problem, but with all the troubleshooting I had already done, losing the drives themselfs when uninstalling finding a fix for that, clean install etc. and time restraits for refund I never found the solution before requesting a refund. I had already purchase EMC 9 but had not installed it until now. Best to all James
  25. Thanks for the reply Larry! I had found that zip file in another posting but didn't what to use it untill I had read other postings. Just after your reply I had the following from my trouble ticket to Roxio Support (see below). Best thing is the software worked. I executed the file>rebooted and I was able to eject the tray on the drive from the drag to disk, looking very positive. Double click the desktop icon and EMC 9 see's my drives. YEA YEA Question though is if they know this occurs why is this not included in the program already. I had recieve an email for special price on EMC 10 but could not get it to work, chat was non helpful and the initial trouble ticket didn't produce a solution so I requested a refund due to running out of time and the amount of time I had already spend on the issue. But Larry again, thanks for your help. James Please download and install the px engine as well as firmware update. Update PX Engine: Go to the link below: http://images.roxio.com/en/support/pxengine3_00_58a.zip Update the firmware for your cd/dvd burner: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/General%20I...mation/000014GN If the information provided does not resolve your issue simply update your webticket with a detailed explanation with the steps you have tried and any error messages you receive.
