    16:9 export to avi?

Basically, when I let Roxio make 16:9 mp4s for me (called "smaller size") for use in a video blog/video podcast feed, they come out "pixely." So I thought I'd try exporting it to an uncompressed AVI and let QT Pro make the .mov file itself. So the question is: what settings should I use for an uncompressed avi? Or... even better... what settings can I put in for an .mp4 that doesn't end up so pixely? Roxio doesn't offer the option to up keyframes, etc. correct? Thanks in advance... Susan
  2. Hi there, I wanted to present this issue I'm having with Roxio mp4s, in hopes that one of the developers will see this message and take a look at it (I know they pop in here from time to time). I use www.blip.tv as the site to host my videos. I use Video Wave (from Roxio 9) to create videos in "ipod format" from the dropdown menu. They play and upload fine, and play on the ipod fine. However, when blip tries to convert those mp4s into .flv's to play on their website, there is audio, but no video--just a white screen. I am friends with the entire blip team, and they have said it is a problem with the encoding of the mp4s. Could you please look into this, or drop them an email and see what you can do to get this issue resolved? My username on there is "kitykity" if you'd like to look at some of my older videos with this problem (from April or earlier). Thanks in advance for your help! Susan (longtime Roxio user and fan)

"white flvs" from original roxio mp4s

I'm using VideoWave... I have the full 9 suite... and what other mp4 option do you suggest?

    ipod format not working

I have purchased Roxio 9, and I use Video Wave frequently. I just tried to make a movie with the ipod format in Video Wave. I then put it onto my ipod, and it won't play. Has anyone else had this problem? This is one of the most important reasons I went out and bought Roxio 9. Thanks... Susan

    ipod format not working

Well, I fixed it, but I want to know why now. I had checked "normalize audio" the first time I compiled, and that movie would not play on the ipod. This time, I did NOT normalize audio, and the video plays on the ipod fine. Can anyone explain this phenomenon? Thanks

Controlling my video camera from Roxio?

If your new Dell is a laptop, you can get a PCMCIA firewire card for cheap... even PC PCI slot cards are cheap, and you can get one with both firewire and USB plugs on the same card--can be handy.

    Mdi Files To Jpg Files

Hi there! I'm trying to figure out if there is an easy way to make contact sheets... you can print them out to your printer, or you can use Microsoft Document Imaging to "print" the contact sheets to a file... then open them with MDI viewer... then save them as single-page TIFs... then convert them to jpg's... is there a simpler process to get a contact sheet into JPG format? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Susan

    Mdi Files To Jpg Files

I discovered another one, in case anyone is reading this thread: http://www.irfanview.com open irfanview, and hit the T key, which opens the thumbnail viewer. Then, go to a directory, select a bunch of pictures, and under File select "create contact sheet from selected thumbs." It's got TONS of options, and will either print the sheets or save them as .jpg files! Now if only Roxio had something like this...

Has anyone had a chance to look at this topic yet? I'd really appreciate any help someone could offer... or, if there is a better program out there for printing contact sheets, I'd like that as well!

    Play Next Menu Title?

In Roxio 7, in preferences, there was a box that asked if you wanted to have the DVD return to the main menu after playing a movie, or play the next title... is that feature gone in Roxio 8? Because I can't find it... after playing each title, it just goes back to the menu... Thanks! Susan

    Play Next Menu Title?

I don't know why it's so hard to believe. Why would I go on and on about something if it weren't true? I even wrote an entire tutorial about it (course it was in the old forums, I'm not sure if it's still here). Here's a screen shot from my VideoWave with Roxio 7: I have 3ivx installed, which I've also mentioned several times. When I make movies with VideoWave, I can output directly to mp4 format... with Videowave from Roxio 7. Doesn't work with 8.
  14. So... what happened? With the invent of the new video ipod, I was thrilled that 3ivx worked with Roxio 7--I could make cool movies with my Video Wave and then put them on my ipod. Then my parents got me Roxio 8 for Christmas, and I was thrilled--until I went to encode a movie with Video Wave, and realized that the mp4 support was gone. I reinstalled 3ivx, and I even talked to one of their developers... they said they have been trying to contact the people at Roxio, but they have not heard back from them. What happened? With the video iPod being so popular, this seems like the WORST time in the world for Roxio to drop something that is so important to the video-blogging world... please tell me there will be an update in the future that allows mp4 support again... Thanks so much for listening. Susan http://vlog.kitykity.com (all movies encoded with the Roxio 7 version of Video Wave and can be played on the video iPod)

    What Happened To Mp4 Support?

So I think I finally figured out what was going on... http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1923218,00.asp Looks like there's a copyright issue with AT&T. Sonic was even named there. Wild stuff. Fight the good fight, Sonic/Roxio guys, pay for mp4, and get us our mp4 creation back.

    Play Next Menu Title?

No way!! So they have removed the two options I used the most--mp4 support in VideoWave, and "Play next title" in DVD Builder (if you will)...? Why do I even have 8 installed? Argh! By the way--off topic--but I have not been able to get the 8 upgrade from the web page to install. It tries to tell me I don't have 8 installed on my hard drive... and at this point, I kind of wish I didn't... I'll stick with 7.
  17. Hi there, I have read through the forums and seen several others with similar problems, but I wanted to describe the details of my own here... I just purchased the new Canon ZR600 camcorder, and it takes great movies. We bought a firewire cable and connected the camcorder up to the computer. I can play, fast-forward, etc. fine--but when it comes to hitting capture, the computer locks up and reboots, or blue-screens. I'm not sure the exact specs of my computer off the top of my head (I'm at work), but it's a very recently updated one, with an ATI all-in-wonder video card and two SATA hard drives. I have read in other forums about making sure your hard drive is set to DMA, but I have also read that Windows XP sets this by default, and with a new, fresh Windows install (including SP2, grussell) I'm pretty sure the drives are already set to DMA. I also read about grussell's suggestion for a firewire driver update, which I will do when I get home; but doesn't it seem that if that were the problem, I wouldn't be able to play, etc at all from the camcorder? I just wanted to start another conversation on this topic and see what other ideas people can give me of things to try to make this work. I know they wouldn't make a million camcorders with firewire functionality if there wasn't any possibility to make it work--somebody out there must be using the firewire successfully. If you are, and you had to do some tweaking to make it work, please speak up! Thanks so much

Media Import Crashing With Minidv Camera

My motherboard... would you believe? My husband traded out my motherboard with his, and my computer has been importing miniDV movies just fine. So problem solved... kinda... I still wonder what was wrong...

Media Import Crashing With Minidv Camera

Here comes yet more info! We were able to get the firewire capture to work, though only with Roxio 7 for the moment (more details in a second) but you'll never believe how... First, we tried swapping out the video cards as I mentioned... which, by the way, were AGP, and no there wasn't a card in the first PCI slot... same thing happened, computer locked up when trying to capture. So my husband pulled my whole computer apart and gave me his motherboard. Is that love or what? When he installed his motherboard into my case, plugged all my stuff back up to it, powered it on, let everything catch up driver-wise, rebooted, then captured, and it worked fine... ...well, that's where the Roxio 8 thing comes in. The error message was along the lines of "failed to create album." That mean anything to you guys? Seemed like it was going to work fine, started playing the tape in the DV camcorder, then popped up with that error message (which, by the way, said "details" but had no details). I booted up Roxio 7 and it captured just fine, though the "scenes" thing I got to play with yesterday in Roxio 8 didn't work. I'm guessing I need to de-install and re-install Roxio 8 at this point? Well phooey--it's 12:30am--I'll do that tomorrow. Thanks again

Media Import Crashing With Minidv Camera

Now hang on a sec--I don't have firewire onboard my motherboard. It works with a 1394 card--inside my husband's computer, but not in mine. It's a home-brew computer--read above for the basic specs--I'd have to get with him for more detailed info as to the brand of the motherboard, etc. And he said that he checked the "bios" (which is what he said you are calling the chipset) and it is up to date. Now here's my latest question: is it possible that the all-in-wonder card is causing the problem? For some reason, are the all-in-wonder card's capabilities conflicting with the DV capture? Or is that just a dumb question? Since that firewire card and Roxio Media Import are working on his computer and not mine, I'm down to trying to eliminate pieces of hardware. I think the next thing we were going to try to do is: - Put the firewire card and C drive back in my computer (so now they're back to normal) - Trade out the video cards (give him the all-in-wonder one) - Try Media Inport and see if it works. If it does... then it was just some kind of video card conflict the whole time. Also, I can look at updating the drivers for the all-in-wonder card...

Media Import Crashing With Minidv Camera

Ok, here's the latest: - I went and bought a Pyro 1394 DV capture card: http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4299404?s...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG Put it in the computer, same problem. - Then my husband had the idea to take the card out, put it in his computer, and try it (he has Roxio 8 also). It worked just fine. And yes, I have multiple scenes--30 secs here, 30 secs there--and it captured it all fine, into one file, with scenes (that's pretty neat, by the way!) - So what's next? He took the C drive out of my computer, put it into his, booted it up and let it catch up with drivers etc., and used the capture card again. Still worked fine. So it's not my C drive. He thinks it might be my ATI all-in-wonder card. We haven't even had it a year, and I don't have any other problems with it! I'm curious if it's my RAM somehow. I have 1G, and my husband has 512M in the computer that the card worked in. More thoughts? Thanks so much, you guys, for your help...

Media Import Crashing With Minidv Camera

Wow, that was quick! And that's a different question... I'm using the same tape. It's a brand new Fuji, I bought a 5-pack but haven't cracked open any other ones. The movies look beautiful when you play them back in the camcorder...

Media Import Crashing With Minidv Camera

Still having a freeze-up issue, here's the latest: - I tried installing the firewire update from Microsoft. I also checked that the drives were set to DMA, which they were (it's also an XP default, from what I've read). - I tried using winDV, and it worked the first time I used it--capturing a 1-minute movie off of the miniDV tape. But when I tried to use it again a few hours later (after several reboots etc), it froze up. - By freeze up, what I mean is that while the capture is happening, the screen literally freezes--can see the mouse cursor, but can't move it. At least I'm not blue-screening anymore. - My computer is a 3.0ghz intel pentium 4 with 1gb ddr ram. I have an ATI all-in-wonder 9600 128MB graphics card; and while I haven't tried analog capture yet, I really wanted the firewire to work. Any other advice you might be able to offer? Thanks so much...

    Video Skipping During Capture

What did you find out after checking these settings? Did you finally get it to work?
  25. I also miss many of those overlays. You can use them manually--going to search for them, then using the chroma key to get rid of the background--but it doesn't always look right.
