    Creating new menu without re-encoding?

Hi! I like the menus in Toast 7 and I would like to change the menu of a DVD (personnal home video). Is there a way to do that without re-encode the video? (Just change the menu, keeping the full original quality of the video)? Thanks.

    Creating new menu without re-encoding?

I have sent the question about the "never reencode" option to Roxio support.... here's the answer... Is it me or they doesn't know their own product??

    Creating new menu without re-encoding?

Well, your more lucky than me... I have done everything, fixed timecodes, demux, etc.... but it still try to encode when I try to save an image file of the DVD. It's really a stupid problem. Never reencode must be... well.. NEVER!!!

    Creating new menu without re-encoding?

Hum, well, the setting is "Never reencode"... but is still encoding. Do I have found a bug or is it that I don't have the same definition of "never" that Toast developpers?? The original DVD is a 58 minutes DVD burned on a stand-alone Panasonic DVD Recorder. The menu is very ugly and I just want to change it. It seems that it is a "no solution" bug, since I have found that message that never got any answer... http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...never+re-encode

    Creating new menu without re-encoding?

Hi! Well, I have followed the steps and I have tried first to do a disk image just to be sure everything was fine and immediately after the multiplexing step (that was done very quickly), there is a very long "encoding" step before doing the disk image.... so it seems to re-encode my video.... or is it saying "encoding" but it just do some copy of "everything in one file"??!

Is Movie Encoding in Toast 7 better than 6?

Well, thanks for the reply. But for me it sounds like "well... it's the best that Toast can do"... I have tried everything you mention and in low light condition videos still very noisy, and for the rest, iDVD still give me a better compression. Very sad for Toast. As Apple seems to want to trash iLife, I really hope that Toast team will works on a new compression engine. I would love to do all my DVD work with Toast in the futur. But I can't right now.

Is Movie Encoding in Toast 7 better than 6?

Ok... so could you tell me what bit rate is the best to maximise usage of the disk if I want to fit 1 hour of video? At full quality, 1 hour fit on a single layer DVD. So, I would like to be able to simply set a preference in Toast to make fit a 1 hour movie on one DVD using ALL the place available on the disk. And surely the resulting quality will increase. Why Toast suppose that everyone has 2 hours of videos to put on one DVD? The quality is poor because there is too much compression. I'm not a professional, I don't know what is "bit rate", I don't need to adjust bit rate myself with iDVD. Why do I need to do it myself in Toast?? So, could someone tell me the exact bite rate to put a 1 hour movie on a DVD using ALL the place on the disk? Thanks!! Eric

    My idvd app burns better!?

Well, I hope Toast 8 quality is better than Toast 7 because I have bought Toast 7 and I have never been able to make my movies burned with Toast 7 look as good as my movies burned with iDVD. Any movie seems always too compressed with Toast; I have a mini DV camera (Sony VX2100), a great camera! On a tv screen, the image is clear and sharp, as if you were there! When I burn it with iDVD, the image is as clear and sharp as it was when I film it. Even in night light, there is nearly no noise at all. But when I burn exactly the same movies with Toast, it's like if Toast put a filter on my image... it looks more like film instead of clear home videos. The "as if you were there" effect disapears!! And videos in low light condition are very noisy comparing to those burned with iDVD. I have already post the problem here and no one has been able to increase the video quality, so now I use Toast only to make copy of image files of videos burned with iDVD, and some other things. I was hoping that Toast 8 was to offer a new compression engine increasing the video quality but it not seems to be the case. And anyway, nobody seems to notice this video quality problem so maybe it's me the problem. Anyway, I'm disapointed. I'm happy to have bought Toast and I use it for many, many tasks. This is a great software, no problem with that. But I would have been happy to be able to burn great quality videos too.

Is Movie Encoding in Toast 7 better than 6?

I don't know for Toast 6, but what I know is that at full quality, when I burn directly from the 8mm Sony video camera to my Panasonic DVD Recorder, the result is better than when I record from the camera to Eye TV and then burn to Toast 7.0.2. In dark scene, there is a lot of noise (pixels) with Toast 7.0.2 that I don't have with my Panasonic DVD Recorder. And by looking the disc, you can see that for 1 hour of video, my Panasonic recorder use all the disc, while for the same thing, Toast don't use all the disc!! For me, it's mean that Toast compress unnecessarily too much! I hope this problem will be corrected in a futur version...

    Rebate issue

It's a real shame to hoax your client who have bought honestly your product!! 4 months ago, I tought every thing was fine. I had a problem with the rebate (like MANY MANY other clients), but the roxio forum admin told me this: He seems honest and I tought that situation was ok. 4 months later, I'm still waiting about my *&*&*&& rebate!!!! I have wrote to "Pat" 6 days ago and I have received NO answer!!!!!! The rebate is just food for fish like you and me!!!

    Rebate issue

Companies make money with rebates because effectively, not many people are complaining! Thanks. Well, we are the 27th of June and I still have no news of my 20$ rebate. But I have sent an email to Patatrox at beta_admin@roxio.com and will see if something will happened. The big difficulties I have is my bad english. I cannot speak at phone in english.

    Rebate issue

I have bought Toast 7 in November 2005, and 6 months later, I still not have received the rebate!! It's not just because of the 20$! This offer is a "legal" fraud!!! All they wants is make you so much problems and make the refund so difficult to have that most of the time, people will give up, and that how they make money!! It's a shame that a company like Roxio do this kind of marketing!!! Do they really have to do it?? Do they really think that by making their clients furious they will keep them??

    Why Toast compress my video?

I have made a video with iMovie. It's a 58 minutes video so it must fit on a DVD without compression. When I burn it to DVD with toast, it take more than an hour to encode and it seems to be compressed. I have burn three other 58 minutes DVD on another DVD recorder and each DVD take 3,8 gig of space. The DVD i have burned with Toast 7 take only 3,0 gig of disc space. Each DVD is 58 minutes. It's mean Toast has made a kind of compression with my DVD. But I have read that if a movie fit on a DVD, Toast is not supposed to compress it! What can I do? I need an answer quickly please. Thanks. Eric

    Why Toast compress my video?

I understand that. But if I burn a 1 hour movie, I expect that it will use all the space available on the DVD. If Toast doesn't use all the space available on a DVD to burn a 1 hour movie, for me it's mean that Toast encoding compress unnecessarily my movie, loosing quality that must not be loose, because 1 hour movie is suppose to fit on a DVD without that much compression. Does it mean that the encoding use by Toast is not very good? Is there a way to force Toast to use all the space available on the DVD before compress unnecessarily a movie? Thanks.

    Audio/video Sync Frustration

Hi! I don't know if this will help (and my english is not very good), but when you do some video editing, many software use MPEG-2 Playback Component, add-on to QuickTime Player or QuickTime Pro. If you have bought this software, I can tell you that there is good chances that this is your problem... MPEG-2 Playback Component has a bug that create out of sync audio/video files. Apple know this bug but don't talk about it on his site and there is not update available now. I am not working very often with AVI files, but I know that the use of software not using MPEG-2 Playback Component (like Diva) can help. You must compressed de video file with Diva and save with none compression, and after that put back the audio track with Quicktime pro, and then save it as AVI. There is a chance that your problem will be gone after that.

Why My Imovie Project Is Desynchronized?

Thanks for your help... Maybe this will help some of you to know that the "out of sync" problem of my iMovie project was caused by Quicktime 7.0.3. I have downloaded the 7.0.1 reinstaller from Apple and everything is fine now!!
  18. Hi! I just want to know if this is just a coincidence. Because since I have installed Toast 7, the iMovie project I an working on is desynchronized. The sound channel was ok before that. And now, it is desynchronized with the image channel. But visually, nothing has changed! And if I burn the project on DVD, eveything is fine and synchronized! BUT it's impossible to work on my project anymore with desynchronized sound, thinking maybe it will be synchronized when I will burn DVD! It doesn't make sense. I have some sound probleme also. Sometime, I need to restart my Mac because de sound seem to be corrupted in my iMovie project. Any Idea? I use a Mac Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 with OS 10.3.9 and 2.5 Gb Ram. There is 15 Gb free on the system disk and about 140 Gb on the disk my project is on. Any idea? I would like to know if the installation of Toast has something to do with that problem. Thanks! NB: My project is about the first year of life of my son. So it's something really important for me.
