I do not have much occasion to use the viewfinder. That is one of the reasons I went with the M31. While the current camcorder, a Canon DC-40 does have a viewfinder have been using a hood for years. Also used on the new M31 last week while shotting outdoors. Most all of mine are shot off a mono or tripod. Here is where I purchased my hood. http://www.hoodmanusa.com/products.asp?dept=1024

I clicked on every folder and sub-folder I could find starting with AVCHD. Do not recall seeing STREAM so I will definitely try again. Thanks for the heads-up on how you have configured your camera. I looked at the S series but after discussing my use of same with Canon we determined the M series would suit my purpose. My camera is set up to mostly record movies as some trips will result in taping plays in several football. There is not much need for photos as others who are attending the events normally have digital slr's. I just try to get the movies which was (is) a request from the grand children telling me "we like the ones that move" I tried making slideshows for them but they still like the movies. Take Care!

When I clicked on the link provide via HERE it shows -- Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit, My system is Windows 7 32-bit. I do not do much in the way of downloads, especially system impactive myself. That is why I contacted Dell. The update was via Dell Pro Support. Their web site I believe. Dell support accessed my system and I did not see each location accessed. Driver Version 8.17.12.6687 information came from System Information. Do not disagree the video card may be the cause. Using Start/Help and Support -- Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Performance Information and Tools. The Windows Experience Index showed Graphics as having the lowest score. I tried the COPY suggested two ways: 1) from the internal memory of the camcorder to the PC. 2) copy from the internal memory of the camcorder to a 32 gb memory card inserted into the camcorder for the purpose of spill over from internal memory and/or copy from internal memory to memory card. In both instances when I opened the files on the camcorder I could not find the videos. I could play back the video on the camcorder. I could capture the video with Roxio. I could input the video with Windows 7 Movie Maker. I could not copy the files as suggested. After connecting the camera I have two options: DVD Burner - DW-100 DVD which I do not have or PC/Printer. I select PC/Printer. Then the camera loads the thumbnails - which can be skipped. Next I open the usb port where the camera is connect and look at the files. I do not find any files that appear to be a movie. Found one small jpeg image that appears to be the beginning of the first movie I shot. I shot some more movies and tried again. Same result. So I just erased everything via initialize of the internal memory and memory card. We are getting ready to leave soon and I want to be able to use the camera while we are gone. So I just switched back to XP+ and will use that while we are gone. I have used the XP+ without incident. Thanks again for your time and efforts to resolve this issue. (edit: fixed quotes )

Display Adapter Driver Version = 8.17.12.6687 FXP is the Recording Mode that is giving me trouble. I did not try the MXP setting because there is a warning on the camera that shows "Cannot create AVCHD disc that include scenes recorded in this recording mode" I now have it set to XP+ which is where I first started testing and that works fine.

Contacted Dell Pro Support and did download update for video card. Did not help. Switched to FXP. Yes, my intention was to view on Sony HD unit which is attached to our HD tv. Other family members with whom I was to share the movies via DVD also have HD players and tv's. Havint the HD on this camera is one of the reason it was purchased. I saw you comment about Copy vs Capture and will look at that. Also saw your list of file types. I tried to make this clear to the support rep I had on Chat but they just were not hearing it. Insisted that the files shown in the link provided are the only file types supported. That is where I ended the chat and turned to the Forum for help.

Render Using is set to Hardware. I do not attempt updates to video card. Yes. This is a business system and this is a new camera. Do not plan on doing a lot of AVCHD video. Grandson was playing his last football game of the year and I wanted to capture in event in (what I thought) was the best format and give to him as a gift. Because this is a new camera with HD and the software supports HD it made sense to give it a try. As noted in another response I had the presence of mind to look at the owners guide to see what it said about file types. Also looked at the File Type I could import. Looked like a match to me. Yes. This is a business system and that is what it is used for most of the time. THANK YOU EVERYONE for taking time to look at this issue and reply. MUCH APPRECIATED !!!!

I am pulling the data from via usb cable and using option Capture Video. Camera has 32GB internal flash memory I did not think there was any problem using video in the mts format and looked before purchasing the camera. Requested help via Roxio Chat and received this link along with input from them that mts is not supported http://rovicorp.force.com/PublicKB1/articles/Roxio_Article/Creator-2011-2012-Supported-file-types?retURL=%2Fapex%2FknowledgeHome&popup=false%E2%8C%A9=en_US

I used Creator 201 Capture Input to load video from memory card of Canon Camcorder. When I view the video files the first part of each file is blurred. I believe the term is pixelation. This is only occuring when viewed using Roxio Creator 2011 products. I also tired viewing with Windows 7 Movie Maker -- NO PROBLEM. Tried viewing with Windows Media Player - NO PROBLEM. Then I tried to pull the videos one at a time into MyDVD. When I view there again the beginning of the viewing is blurred. Likewise I tried pulling a video into Videowave. Again the beginning of the video is blurred. These same video files look great on the camera, on TV and on another PC after capture using Windows 7 Movie Maker. Only when using Creator 2011 do I see this issue When I look at TYPE for these file it shows: AVCHD video When I right click on the file and look at properties it shows AVCHD (.mts) File size ranges from 1.5 KB up to 296,000 KB Looking a Owners Guide for Canon HF M31 see: AVCHD is a standar4d for recording high definition video. With AVCHD specifications, the video signal is recorded using MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression Creator 2011-2012 Shows Supported Formats as: Input Formats • Video: AVI, DV, HDV, DV-AVI, MPEG-1/2/4, MPEG2-HD, DVD-Video, IFO/VOB, XviD, DVR-MS, TiVo, ASF, MOV, WMV, QuickTime, 3GP, MPEG2 Transport Stream, AVC (H.264), AVCHD, MKV Thinking Video Capture may be an issue - which I have tried twice, I have also used the Video Input on Windows 7 Movie Maker. File type is the same: AVCHD video Same issues when I try to use the files in Roxio MyDVD and VideoWave - blurred first part of video. However no problem when viewed in Windows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker. Have attached some screen shots. Look how clear the image is in WMP and how bad it is in Roxio Any Ideas???? (Besides looking for a new product)

    8007000E error

Did not ignore your question. Had BIGGER problems than Roxio Creator 2011. PC that was in use during this discussion is gone. Numerous and I do mean NUMEROUS possibilities as to the cause. (VERY) Long story short: old PC is gone. New PC just installed. Will be starting from scratch. Thanks to all who took time to review and respond....

I was able to input the video which comes from my Canon DC40 and successfully save the iso file the via the process noted. Same camera I have been using for several years without incident. During Input I select mpeg. so whatever kind of file is created that is what I am using. Thanks again for your assistance

    8007000E error

Thanks for looking at this Walt. When I look at the project at the bottom of the screen it tells me I have 00:25:56 remaining. When I am finished adding the videos to MyDVD and do a File, Save As it shows me the File Type as *.dmsd. I add a File Name to complete the save. Then I click on File Burn Project to Disc, select Image File and create a file with the extension .iso. Have also tried burn to disc and burn to folder all fail. Would also like to add that when the videos are added to MyDVD the origin of these files is my C drive. The files on the C drive were created via Roxio 2011 Capture Video with the mpeg type selected. The length of those files are from < one minute to approximately 10 minutes. Normally I will take the smaller files for the same subject matter and put those together using Video Wave. Then do a File Save of that project to create .dmsm file. Later, that .dmsm file is pulled into MyDVD via add movie. I will change from Fit to HQ Here is the most recent suggestion from Roxio. It did not help me received the same error message and code. Maybe it will be useful to others. Try to encode the project via Edit Video -Advanced or Videowave. Load the video file into Video Wave and select output icon just above the preview window. Select all and the 'mpg2 for DVD best quality'. If the encoding hangs, then there is something wrong with the video. If it completes, then open Create DVD. Select your menu and then add the mpg file. Thanks again to everyone for taking time to review and respond.

    8007000E error

Greetings all. Hope you do not mind my input. I was searching the forum on this same error. I am on a Dell Precision T3400 with Windows XP SP3 Intel Pentium III Xeon 2.80 Ghz processor with 2gb ram. Disk is 233 GB with 124 GB Free Space. Defragment occurred today. Memory is 2064mb RAM Page File 814mb used, 3122mb available DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290 Disply Memory 256.0 mb Driver Name nv4_disp.dll Driver Version 6.14.0012.5957 (english) DDI Version 9 ( or higher) Driver Date/Size 9/2/2010 01:08:00, 6349568 bytes There are some tests available like DDRAW, D3D7 8 & 9 All test were successful Roxio had me change the Render from Hardware to Software but that does not help. I have used msconfg to disable all startup and reboot I have gone so far as to shut down internet access and have not other applications running. I am using one of their menus and have reinputted the videos I shot and restarted the project from the beginning. Gone so far as adding one video to a project then burning that project. As for size of the Project (TYPE) Roxio MyDVD Project one is 344KB and the other is 421KB I have uninstalled Roxio Creator 2011 and went though a clean up as supplied by one of the Roxio L2 folks to be sure I had everything out prior to reinstall. I had been using Creator 2009 and all of that was taken out prior to 2011. Even created a new User Account (which was another Roxio suggestion) to be sure the other (and origional User) was not corrupted. None of this is helping me. Sure hope this helps others. Open to suggestions. As always, thanks for taking time to read and reply to this post.

How To Turn Dvd With Menu Into Dvd With No Menu

Thank you for your reply. I had the understanding from another Reply when I was using Creator 2009 that in 2011 you could create a Project with menus first then using that Project create (think Save As or related action) to remove the menus. Guess I misunderstood.
