  1. Was anyone at Macworld last week? Did Roxio announce or demo a new version of Toast? Meaning a projected release date on Toast 11, etc?

    Error -5000 "i Don't Have Permissions?"

I tried to find the firm ware but I can't tell all the file names apart? Yes, I'm truly that lame. Can you help me find the exact file based on my previously posted current dirve specs? And of course I understand about the "try at my own risk..." (Unless you'd be willing to pass me your credit card info)

cool. Not sure I can get or even pull of a firmware update. But here's an update Spent another hour on the phone with level one tech support. A guy named Chad. Nice guy. But together all we could come up with was creatting a new admin user adn then we got it to burn a movie DVD. So if I'm assuming correctly that means it's not the DVD super drive, ( although I would love to know how to get a firmware file and update procedure) and it's not the media. That means it's something with my root level admin, my main user id that I've been using for everything else. That's as far as my thinking takes me. which is obviously not to far. How would I get the correct firmware updater? Is it possible to change the firmware with out having a PC? I only have macs. And I don't run any windows emulation stuff either. Pioneer Superdrive: Has Apple's firmware which can be flashed to newer firmware using DVR Flash. Users in the CDs and DVDs section of the Mac Pro forum at discussions.apple.com report improvement in drive performance and media compatibility with newer firmware. Going to check out this area like you suggested.

    Error -5000 "i Don't Have Permissions?"

Good morning and again thanks for your kind help on this baffling problem. As i type this I'm hold waiting for level one tech support again. Not feeling to hopeful as they don't seem to have real tech support guru's at Roxio. I will pick up a brand new piece of media today and try to burn a DVD movie as you suggest. I'm doubtful that it will work though because Toast WILL burn a data DVD from my current media just not burn a DVD movie. Am I wrong to assume that there's a difference in the burning that would allow one type of burn procedure ie, creation of DATA DVD but not the other Creation of a movie DVD on the same computer using the same batch of media from the same spool etc etc. Can that really be the answer? Oh, and level one just disconnected my call. Can you belive this? I'm telling the level one guy my back story on this tech problem and the phone goes dead. Wow. The hits just keep on coming.

Even though I can burn a data dvd using toast 10 pro on said machine using said drive? It's just the movie DVD that won' burn. hmmm? You still think it's a data compatibility problem? Error -5000 "i Don't Have Permissions?"

Ive tried various files. .mov meg4s some big some small others that i've successfully burned using previous versions of toast in that past. I'm also using quicktime7.6 pro. The movie files were created by various fcp users my editors from several reputable edit houses. I have even downloaded codecs from the manufactures of the codecs listed in the get info window for the various movie files. I know that's not helpful to you trying to help me but it's where I'm at file wise. NONE of the files i've tried produce a different result. I get that error message each time. I even log out and log in under another user account. same problem.

    Error -5000 "i Don't Have Permissions?"

well, I'm stumped. And level one tech support could not solve either. They don't offer level 2 tech support other than email which is worthless and cumbersome. I have. Uninstalled twice! Following all the "trash this pref and trash that pref" procedures. Rebuilt the permissions, reinstalled restarted etc etc. She will not burn a Video DVD. I've tried granting the permissions to the app the file. I've tried smaller and different .mov or mpeg2 and meg 4 files. I've removed all the codecs from the quicktime folder and then trashed all the prefs and reinstalled. etc etc. Nothing seems to work. I'm totally stumped. What else can I do? I did install toast on my Laptop a mac book pro with 2.8 ghz with g gigs of ram. There I was able to burn so it's something with my Mac Pro Tower above that is the problem. BUT. I was able to burn using idvd, (which is horrible program quality wise,) So I know it's not the actual super drive. Any suggestions?
  9. Spent the money to upgrade to Toast 10 pro. I've got to burn a DVD of a quick time movie not even a big file 39 megs and I get a " error -5000" Specifically: "Could not recrod the disc because you don't have the required access permissions. Result Code = -5000" It's my Mac Pro Tower. I'm the only user. I own Toast. The discs are brand new high quality DVD-R What gives? Please help. I have to submit the video piece by tomorrow and need to burn the DVD tonight.
