Title and track names lost when burning audio CDs

With the recent versions of iTunes , got yet another "update" 7.0.2 , I'm wondering why I would continue to use Toast at all for burning CD's? If I wasn't still using Panther 10.3.9, I could answer if iTunes will now burn CD Text as well as (I assume) leave song tags on individual tracks, so even mixes retain track info when read by iTunes. Any Tiger users play with the new iTunes "CD Text" check box? How about song title recognition with the Data CD and Data DVD disc option? Anyone else notice the new advanced burning choices iTunes offers? ----------------------------------------------- iTunes >Preferences >Advanced >Burning * AudioCD *Include CD TEXT (requires Mac OS 10.4 or later) *Data CD or DVD (data discs include all files in the playlist) ----------------------------------------------- - Greenjeens

Which DVD Data Format for Mac itunes burn & PC read?

thanks, I made a Mac & PC, data DVD of my Apple Lossless itunes library and a PC could read it just fine. Just wondering if there would be any difference using DVD -Rom format, any advantages or disadvantages over Mac and PC? I know I can read the Mac & PC format. - Dave
  3. Which DVD data format choice should I use besides the obvious, "Mac Only" , to write my Apple Lossless library to, for backing up, so a PC can read it? These are the Toast 7 format choices for DVD Data discs. Mac Only Mac & PC DVD-ROM ISO 9660 Custom Hybrid Mac Volume Been searching and can't find an answer. Suppose I could try them all, but I thought someone else might already know which one to use and if it's even possible. Would the DVD data disc files be able to be read in itunes as Apple Lossles files on the PC or is there more going on? The discs can be PC only and do not have to be Mac compatible after writing. Any other information or tutorials, to help me understand DVD data discs, or alternatives to Mac/PC music file compatibilty would be appreciated. - Dave Panther 10.3.9, Toast 7.02, all music in Apple Lossless, itunes library.

Quicktime 7.1.1 Breaks Itunes to Toast burning! No Downgrade

Good work getting to the exact problem! The one part broken is the one part I use! There apparently is a way to downgrade the New Quicktime versions, though I have not tried it. Credit to Mark V for finding a Quicktime 7.1.1 downgrade. From Apple Support Discussions. "There is a download that removes all newer versions of quicktime." MV states "I've used this successfully twice now (once for 7.1 and again for 7.1.1)." The following link rolls back to 7.0.1: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/qui...einstaller.html "After installing, I then download the last QT update before 7.1 (7.0.4)." http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime704.html Another Application that others seem to be using to remove Quicktime is Pacifist. Not sure how easy this is to use with Quicktime... Pacifist http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743 Product Description: Shareware application that opens Mac OS X .pkg package files, .dmg disk image files, and .tar, .tgz, and .tar.gz archive files and allows you to extract individual files and folders out of them. This is useful, for instance, if an application which is installed by the operating system becomes damaged and needs to be reinstalled without the hassle of reinstalling all of Mac OS X (for example, if you had accidentally deleted Sherlock and wanted to reinstall it, but not the whole operating system). Pacifist is also able to verify existing installations and find missing or altered files*, and also has the ability to examine the kernel extensions installed in /System/Library/Extensions to determine which ones were installed by Apple and which may have been installed by third-party installers.

Toast 6.1.1 hangs at "Writing Lead-in"

Good point to watch when the failures occur to at least get some idea where the data gets stuck. The error messages came up just as the buffer was starting to fill or before.

Quicktime 7.1.1 Breaks Itunes to Toast burning! No Downgrade

Thanks for taking the time to test this out, it's very reassuring to see I'm not the only one on the planet with this problem. Since my whole library is in Apple Lossless this is a big deal. Despite the ability to convert to aiff format first, I'd rather avoid the hassle of yet another step. For help in tracking this bug, what versions of Toast, Tiger and Quicktime are you using and what error message from Toast do you get? I suspect the simple ability to downgrade Quicktime 7.1.1 would be a good first step. Apparently there is a simpler way to update using archive and install with the Custom option then (de?) selecting Quicktime. Thank you so much! Addendum: I called Apple Support and reported the bug in deatail. The new Quicktime 7.1 and Adobe Photoshop had known problems. 7.1.1 was suppose to fix problems. They were unaware of a 7.1.1 bug with burning Apple Lossles files using Toast. The guy at Apple said the problem would get communicated at the next Appple group forum where these kind of issues are discussed. Greenjeens

Toast 6.1.1 hangs at "Writing Lead-in"

What is the burner Model number and how old is it? DVd has got much better rapidly. Wild guess... get a new burner if everything else is set correctly... IIRC some drive makers started with supporting DVD+R or-R more (forgot the political/economic reasons) but most drives are universal now with some having DVD (CD?) RAM. I have a G4 400MHz sawtooth using Panther 10.3.9 and I burn Backp video DVD's all the time. If my unit can handle motion, then pictures should be no problem. Of course I turn off everything possible while I'm burning DVDs since it's so processor intensive. I use MTR (look it up) and Toast for DVDs with no problems, just converts/compresses and burns a little slower than a faster processor. I can't reccomend OWC plug and play burners highly enough. The DV-109 dual layer drive is used in mass duplication machines. Readability is almost universal, but there are always little incompatabilities among a few drives and certain media burns. The drives are getting faster all the time. I don't recall Sony as being particulary great. CD freaks revues drives and media in detail, do they list your model? I still needed to install patchburn to get my OWC drive working with OS X. Patchbun... "If you run into problems during installation or after, please read the PatchBurn FAQ under: http://www.patchburn.de/faq.html ? Program Use This program generates and installs so called device profiles for CD/DVD-burners that are available on Mac-OS X systems. This allows many, otherwise unsupported burners to be used directly with Mac-OS X, iTunes and DiscBurner."

    Error Code 54?

I got a Error message Can't complete command because of Mac OS error -50. It was a Toast message since it had the Toast Icon on it. I traced the problem to updating to Quicktime 7.1.1 from 7.1. Error messages went away when I reinstalled the older/compatible Toast 7.02 and Quicktime 7.04 version. See my post. Did you update any Applications like Quicktime or Toast?
  9. Got it figured out! Quicktime 7.1.1 Toast-itunes Fiasco Panther 10.3.9 Toast 7.0 and iTunes 6.5.2 Burning Apple Lossless files from iTunes playlist with Toast (for CD TEXT ) Started with Quicktime 7.01... worked until I upgraded Quicktime to 7.1.1 BIG MISTAKE! After throwing a lot of things away and reloading lots of software, I finally tracked the problem down to Quicktime. Not much help with similar problems in the Toast or Quicktime forums. After updating my Quicktime 7.01 to 7.1.1 I could no longer Burn Apple Lossless playlists to CD-R using Toast 7.0 or the upgraded Toast 7.2. Kept getting ERROR Messages that Mac OS would not complete the command because of a problem (-50) To get a working version of Quicktime I had to reinstall my Panther OS discs and start with Quicktime 6.5 then find an archived update to get Quicktime 7.04. There is no downgrade for Quicktime 7.1.1 This is not nice! There is a downgrade of Quicktime 7.04 to 7.01, where I started, but chose to keep the Quicktime 7.04 because it works with the Toast update of 7.02, so far. Quicktime 7.04 will not work with Toast 7.0 Gets another Toast ERROR message that (Mac os?) file cannot be found. Quicktime 7.04 Requires upgrading to Toast 7.02. I am keeping the Quicktime 7.04 to 7.01 downgrader handy, as well as the original Toast 7.0, just in case. Whew! there went about 12 hours of my life!

Error Msg "Couldn't complete Command Mac OS Error =-50" ?

Yes those are Doug's Itunes Library Manager Scripts. I removed them and no change. I also removed Toast rebuilt my OS with disc Warrior and reinstalled Toast = the 7.02 update and rebuilt the OZ abin with Disc Warrior. restarted and still get the Toast error message. Tried burning from a folder on the desktop as suggested and still get the error message. I guess I'll back everything up with super duper and then reinstall the OS and upgrade everything except for Quicktime beyond 7.01, which is the last version everything worked at. I forgot exaxtly how to reinstal my OS 10.3.9 without the new Quicktime. Just want to make sure I have to select which Quicktime update gets installed and it doesn't get installed when I move/restore (forget the correct terminolgy) the Old system user files over to the new Panther OS copy? ANy quick tips or tutorials about how to make sure I don't get the new Quiktime when I restore my user info to the new Panther copy?

Toast 6.1.1 hangs at "Writing Lead-in"

I wouldn't udgrade Quicktime to 7.1.1 especially since there is no downgrading option. I'm faced with reloading my OS and then not updating Quicktime, which is a major hassle. Perhaps if they had a downgrader for Quicktime, then it would be MUCH easier to go back should any problems arise. If you look at all the posts about broken items and the last Quicktime release. It's hard to say what will happen. It's not like everyone gets the same results with the Qicktime update...at all! I like Verbatim CD and DVD blank media, but I use the inkjet printable media to make beautiful printed labels with an Epson 320, direct on media printer option. Always buy data media discs with a "for Music" indicating lower quality. The reasoning is music files don't need higher quality data reproduction and can have more errors than discs designed to duplicate higher compliance data . (real)Taiyo Yuden media, apparently is the highest quality producer. Verbatim is better in general, with some higher grade archival discs. Check out supermedia store, CDfreaks etc for CD media reviews. Using cheap media that will break down in heat and with age is rare, but CD and DVD edia that has a decent archival life should be considered. http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33 http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom...factories.shtml Make sure you check the CD/DVD drive for the that particular drives recommended burn speeds. Slower, say 16x for CD and 2x for DVD for example produces better readability for playback in other possible picky readers, down the road. But that's recommmend speeds for my Pioneer DV 109 drive. Toast 6.1.1 hangs at "Writing Lead-in"

I've never had a problem with creating CD's fron my itunes library, but today Toast gives me an error message that it can't complete the last comand do to Mac OS error. Burning stops just as the RAM cach is starting to fill. One song proceeded out of over 10 tries. No Coaster since it won't begin the burn, but I have a medium cache size set up IIRC. I can burn a CD to CD-R so the drive and connections are good. Toast just won't read my library for some reason. See my post. I also have Panther 10.3.9. Did you just do a Mac Suggested Quicktime update to 7.1.1 by any chance?
  15. Hi All, I don't know what to do, I CAN copy a CD to a CD-R with Toast, so burner and connections are OK, but get this Error message window from Toast, after I have pasted an itunes playlist into the wiindow, just as the playlist RAM is about to be filled, before a CD-R disc burn... "Couldn't complete the last command because of a Mac OS Error Result = -50" Out of 10 tries or so, ONE SONG from iTunes successfully began to get the Ram cache filled for a burn, and I assume would start burning normally, without 2 copies of the Error message comming up and then notheing. Using Panther 10.3.9 and just upgraded to Quicktime 7.1.1 form 7.1. Upgraded Toast to 7.02 and it didn't help. Not entirley sure it is all a Quicktime issue, since I downloaded itunes library Manager scripts. But there is something that stops Toast from reading the itunes playlist. I haven't tested all Toast functions. Any suggestions or where exactly in the Crash Log to look for the Toast issue? I Reinstalled Toast and Quicktime and ran Disk Warrior, as well as shutting off and replugging in all my firewire and USB devices. Using and external FW burner with Toast. I couln'dt find a Quicktime 7.01. Perhaps I will unistall Itunes Library scripts if it would help. Could itunes scripts cause a problem for Toast reading and burning or is it Quicktime? What a drag, this is a major malfunction. I CAN burn direct with itunes, but lose song title. Thanks for any words of encouragement, Dave
