    10.0.8 Crashes In Os 10.6.4

Thanks for your comments. I went through the process of removing (all traces according to the knowledge base article) Toast from my system, though many of the files listed in Knowledgebase Article : 000014TT were not present in any location as far as Spotlight or EasyFind were concerned. I have a backup copy of Toast 10.0 which I reinstalled but this version also does not now work on my system! Toast 10.0.7 was working fine—and then I upgraded to Toast 10.0.8 with the result I am now not able to use the program at all. It does appear that the upgrade process 'broke' some part of my OS but I am presently resisting the urge to nuke and pave!! iMac running OS 10.6.4

    10.0.8 Crashes In Os 10.6.4

I have already done the necessary 'house cleaning' (plists, permissions etc.) but this did not clear the problem. An interesting (perhaps) clue to the cause is that each time I launch Toast I must go through the "this is a new application downloaded...." windows, but following this install process there is NO requirement for an Administrators password, and the Toast window appears. However, as soon as I press the Record button to burn a disc the application crashes every time.

    10.0.8 Crashes In Os 10.6.4

I just installed the Toast 10.0.8 update over a 10.0.7 install which worked perfectly. The 10.0.8 installation crashes every time I try to 'Record' a disk. I have tried to get back to v10.0.7 but now this install does not work either!

Interface error 5: the connection is unstable

Toast 10.0.6 with OS 10.6.3 finally appears to have resolved the 'interface error 5' problem. I have now successfully burned a few DVD's using the internal GA11N drive (with Maxell, TDK and Verbatim media).

Interface error 5: the connection is unstable

The Toast 10.0.6 update DOES NOT fix my 'Interface error 5.....' problem using OS 10.6.2 and the internal GA11N (JA18 firmware) burner. Using the OS 10.6.2 Disk Utility for a DMG produced by Toast 10.0.6 the GA11N works fine for DVD +/-R. An external burner (OWC Mercury Pro) also works fine using Toast 10.0.6 and OS 10.6.2 for all DVD media that I have tried (Verbatim, TDK, Sony, Maxell). iMac, 21.5 iMac, 3.06GHZ, 4GB, 1TB Mac OS X (10.6.2) External OWC Mercury Pro

Interface error 5: the connection is unstable

Another update: I have just installed an External OWC Mercury Pro Dual Layer DVD +/-RW on my new 21.5" iMac and this unit does burn properly with OS 10.6.2 and Toast 10, while burning on the GA11N internal drive still gives the 'Interface error 5....'. This finding confirms that the problem is between Toast and the GA11N drive and is probably, as suggested by Roxio, a firmware issue in the GA11N drive.

Interface error 5: the connection is unstable

An Update: I have now determined, to my own satisfaction, that the GA11N drive is not the problem in my system, and that THERE IS a compatibility issue between Toast 9/10 and OS 10.6.2. My previous 'verification error' using the OS Burn method appears to have been a media issue. I can now burn Video TS folders created with Toast (via a disk image) using either the OS Burn or DVDRemaster Pro without problems but continue to get the 'Interface error 5...' when trying to burn via Toast.

Interface error 5: the connection is unstable

I too have been a Mac user since 1985 but have never before experienced hardware problems, though in my present situation I am becoming convinced that my particular GA11N drive is faulty (JA18 firmware), in conjunction with some incompatibility between Toast 9/10 and the drive firmware. In my testing I did use Verbatim, Memorex, Maxell and Pine DVD media; all produced the same error so it is unlikely that the media is a contributor to this problem. Using my MPB (Intel) with 10.5.8 and Toast 9, or Toast 10.0.5, all the DVD media I use burn without problem.

Interface error 5: the connection is unstable

Thanks for your comments. I have used a variety of DVD media and the result is always the same—Interface error 5, and the disc is trash. I have also tried to burn a variety of images: VideoTS folders and DMG with the same result. It is time to give up and hope that Apple or Roxio can identify and solve the problem.
  10. Using Mac OS 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard) with both Toast 9 and with Toast 10.0.5 (all versions) to burn a DVD results in the error code "Interface error 5: the connection is unstable" . 'Lead in' writing has started so the resulting DVD is useless. This problem affects many Mac users, particularly those with the GA11N superdrive in new iMacs, as attested by the Apple Discussion forum on this topic, and there is still no useful response from either Apple or Roxio. I am in contact with Roxio technical support; they believe the problem is with the firmware in the GA11N drive but the consensus in the Apple Discussion group is that the problem lies with an incompatibility between Toast and OS 10.6.2.
