I've been following you instructions about opening a new as 16:9, adding the file, editing it, and rendering as "same as original" with perfect results. I don't know the make and model of the camera. It's an integral part of a DJI Phantom 3 standard drone. So far, I'm thrilled with it. More info here: http://www.dji.com/product/phantom-3-standard

Great! that worked nicely. I'll post the file to the board. From this I take it, that, generally speaking, I should start any new production as 16:9. Then, after doing my editing, Export it the same way as I did with this file. Boy, there sure are a lot of hidden skeletons in this program. OK. we got another problem Houston. I tried to upload the file called "test 2.mp4" and got the following message: "Error You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file" It's only 19.6 MB.

OK. got it trimmed. when I go to "export as" and select "purpose All" then look in the list of video qualities, I see a long list of of choices but "same as original" is not one of them

Thanks for the replys. Jim. My render using was software. I switched it to hardware and that didn't help. Myguggi. quote: If the original source file was HD video then converting to mpg will downgrade the video. Why are you converting to lower quality mpg if it is HD? quote. I am not intentionally downgrading the file I only have 4 MPEG-2 choices I have MPEG-2 best quality is the one I've been using.. Cdanteek. How do I post a short clip of the original file without modifying it?
  6. I took a video with my tablet. In video wave there are two wide black bars on either side of the video. Is there a way to remove them or change the aspect ratio to reduce them? Thanks. Jim B.
  7. Finally... This is a snapshot of a video from my tablet. The tablet was being held vertically at the time but the video is laying on it's side. The snapshot was taken from the video as it was plating on VLC mediaplayer. I hope this is what your looking for. The video has the black borders while playing in VLC. If I open it in VW, it is laying on it's side with narrow borders. If I rotate it, it will have the wide borders.
  8. thanks for the offer Walt. I've taken more videos with the tablet. One horizontal, one vertical. I need to figure out how to post directly from the tablet. I've been chasing my tail the last couple of days. Hope to post sometime tomorrow.
  9. I hate to say this after all the effort you guys have expended trying to help me but, I am thoroughly confused.
  10. Here is an image extracted from the video. It is a working model of the Macon dirigible sky hook trapeze used to bring scouting planes into the hanger, way back in the days... The black bars are obvious.
  11. OK, step-by-step 1 click add video 2. Find video in it's folder and dbl click on it 3 It loads into the main track. 9Ican click on it in the timeline and select it but when I move away from it, the selection marque disappears. 4 click on add video effect. (cannot drag any to fx1 track.) I can select the effect and hit OK and it shows on the fx1 track. 5 click on add video 6 Find video in it's folder and dbl click on it. 7 I shows up on the ovl 1 track with a red border with "handles" on it. I can move the corner handles and change the size of the image but the black borders are still there. I can move one of the top or bottom handles but that messes up the aspect ratio of the image. Is that what was to be expected? My next step is to go back and retake the video holding the tablet horizontal per your advice. Thanks again. Jim B.
  12. Add the background image/video to the main track. Make sure it is selected Go to the effects list and drag that effect to the FX 1 track. Stretch it to the same length as the video. Use the arrow that displays when you go to the middle- end of that effect track. Select your video. Yous will get three option, select add as an overlay. It will show up in the Ovl1 track. In the preview window, resize the video to where you want it. Keep the same ratio as the original.] OK. I've got the blur heavy added to the fx1 track and stretched it to the same length as the main track but that's as far as I can get. I am stumped at the point where the red text, above, begins. I've attached the video clip to this thread.
  13. This is a display we installed in the Niagara Aerospace Museum. I hope it shows up all right. Macon display 1.mpg
  14. Thank you both for the information. Jim, I tried the aspect handling command and it didn't seem to do anything. Cab you tell me how to do the color panel thing? Steve, I tried the heavy blur effect and it blurred the whole picture. Please tell me how to do it. As I am very inexperienced with the finer points of this program, Will you both please explain the procedures very slowly with step-by-step instructions. About all I can do is trim videos to clean out junk, add transitions, color panels, and text. I've never worked with the overlay track.
  15. I have a LG V410 tablet screen resolution = 1200 x 800 clip resolution = 720w x 480h (although, when I view the video on my desktop screen, these width and height numbers appear to be reversed. I did rotate the video 90º in videowave. BTW the screen resolution of my desktop monitor is 1280 x 1024.
  16. Since there's content in the video that could be removed, I think I could afford to crop it vertically. Could you please tell me how to access that command in videowave? Thanks again.

    Spell Checker

For anyone using the Firefox browser, you can add this to it and the spelling in your posts to this forum will be checked. I installed it and it just started working. https://addons.mozil...glish-spellche/

Thanks Brendon. I removed the addon and spell checking still works. I coulda swore it wasn't working before.
  19. Thanks Walt. that tells me what I needed to know about permanently deleting parts of a production.
  20. At the end of my production I've inserted a disolve transition followed by a color panel with some text on it followed by a X close. the dissolve duration is set for 4 seconds and the X close duration is 1 second by default (it doesn't seem to be adjustable). After much banging my head aganst the wall I discovered that if I want the color paneI show for 12 seconds, I have to include the 5 seconds in the in the transition and close durations and set the duration for the color panel to 16 seconds. I hope this prevents others from getting the same headach I got.
  21. I see that. How would I permanently delete that portion (so that I no longer exists)?
  22. full video loaded position slider on time line at 50 second point. select the video. hit split. select the portion before the split. hit delete. counter shows start point at 00:00:00:00 select remaining portion of video. right click and select trim. counter there shows start point at 00:00:50:00. move start point slider in trim screen to 00:00:00:00 hit set start. hit OK. Trim screen closes (video back on screen) video counter shows 00:00:00:00 as start point Play the video and see that the portion I deleted is back. When I delete a portion of a video, I thought it would no longer exist. Jim
  23. I think what I need to do is find out how to make a clip 6 seconds long. The problem I'm having is: I have a 15 min long video. I split it at the point where I wanted it to start (50 sec) and cut/deleted the part ahead of that point. Now the counter says it's start point is at 00:00:00:00:00 but, when I select it and open the trim tool, that tells me that the start point is at 50 sec.I changed the start point with the trim tool to 0. I return to the video and the counter says the start point is 00:00:00:00. When I play the video, the part I thought I cut out is still there. How do I permanently get rid of that part or any other part of a clip? Hope I'm not being a pest. Jim
