Cannot delete Web Video from Media Browser

Thanks for the feedback. Well, I went ahead and installed 10.0.6 on my PM G5. I d/l a utube video, went ahead and deleted it from the browser, then went back to the same utube video and it actually did d/l it a second time. But after doing another delete, it reverted back to not d/l any further times. I suppose that in the real world one wouldn't d/l, delete, re download/delete, but its' strange to me what causes that to happen. It may well be something up on my machine.

    dvd menu & 10.0.6

Thanks for the feedback. Am I correct that you are using os 10.5.8 on your G5 mac in addition to toast 10.0.6? I suppose this is a flaw that continues to exist on the PM platform. I am able to get text to show up on my PM G5/G4 if and only if I use toast 10.0.2. Anything after that produces textless dvd menus. I am using os 10.5.8 on all machines. As an aside, the textless dvd menus also occur on my MBP using anything after toast 10.0.4 with os 10.5.8 installed. I am able to get text to show up on dvd menus with 10.0.4 on my MBP. I don't have os 10.0.6 to see if that happens with any version of toast.

Thanks for the feedback. Were you able to get the text to show up on dvd menus using 10.0.6 on your G5 imac? Thanks,

Cannot delete Web Video from Media Browser

hey, thanks so much. Also, how do you "delete" the video. From the browser? That's how I do it. I highlight the video clip in the browser, then right click on my mouse and select delete. just want to be sure of the steps used. I use toast 10.0.4 on my MBP and 10.0.2 on my PM G5 and os 10.5.8 on both. Don't know how much of that you can recreate. Again, thanks

Cannot delete Web Video from Media Browser

Thanks for the response. I have yet to update to 10.6.2. I'm still using 10.5.8 on both my MBP and PM G5. Maybe there in lies the difference. Seems like there are still to many issues for several of the apps that I use for me to go to snow leopard. Thanks, Oh, which version of toast are you using with 10.0.6?

Cannot delete Web Video from Media Browser

Just be aware that if you do delete the video from the browser and you later want to again d/l it, Toast will do nothing. I have reported this to Roxio w/o any particular response. I have not been able to find out why that is. More specifically, where does Toast keep the reference file or url of that video. Somehow while you may delete it from the browser, there is something still left that makes Toast think that it has not been deleted. I've posted this on other posts w/o any response. Any body got any ideas? Thanks,

    Web Video

Great question. I'd love to know that to see if deleting them from the browser actually deletes them from where they are stored. If they are not actually stored, then there must be someplace where the url reference is stored and I'd like to know where that is. Anyone got the answer? Thanks,

iphoto images not showing in media Browser

Not quite sure why this is happening. My itunes library and songs show up in the media browser, but my iphoto library does not. I haven't made any changes to the location of my iphoto library location, its' still where its' always been. I did however create a new iphoto library within iphoto and I wonder if that creates a problem with toast in that toast doesn't know where to look for the iphoto library. I did trash toast preferences, that didn't work, then trashed toast and did a reinstall and the media browser still won't list the iphoto images. Any ideas? thanks

iphoto images not showing in media Browser

I found out what is causing this to happen. I contacted Karelia s/w who makes the imedia browser app. Bottom line is that if you create a slideshow in iphoto that uses a song in itunes and that song's title or even its metadata contains an "&", then it causes imedia browser, the media browser in toast as well as the media browser in neooffice to not recognize the iphoto library. Here is the text of my emails with Karelia tech support and you would also want to check out the following link for all the technical stuff: http://openradar.appspot.com/radar?id=132403 What I did was to change the music of the slideshow to a song that did not have any "&" and now iphoto photos show up as expected in all the media browsers. What a deep and very obscure bug. My thanks to Karelia tech support for finding this because I never would have. For those who are interested in the imedia browser app, here is the link to the beta which will allow itunes song data that has an "&" to work with iphoto and not conflict with the media browser in toast: http://www.karelia.com/beta/iMediaBrowser.dmg From: "Karelia Software" <company@karelia.com> Date: February 8, 2010 6:59:02 PM EST Subject: Re: (Case 63165) iPhoto library not listed in browser [General Inquiry] Right, the problem is only going to show up for people who have created a slide show with music with a "&" in the file name or folder name of the track. Very obscure issue! Regarding the other apps -- any other application that tries to read the iPhoto library is going to have the same issue, unless they have already found the issue and worked around it like we have. You could contact them, letting them know about the issue, and mention that their developers might want to have a look at this URL: http://openradar.appspot.com/radar?id=132403 -- Dan Wood company@karelia.com -----Original Message----- From: "Bob O'Halloran" <bohalloran@bellsouth.net> Date: Mon, 8 Feb 2010 18:17:34 -0500 To: "Karelia Software" <company@karelia.com> Subject: Re: (Case 63165) iPhoto library not listed in browser [General Inquiry] Ah, Now I know why the 1.2.1 version works on my MBP and not on my PM G5. As I read your email you mentioned that the "&" in an itunes song that was used in an iphoto slideshow was causing the problem. Well, it just so happens that I recently created a slideshow in iphoto using a Joan Baez song, "windrose" by name on my PM G5. Well, my iphoto library that is on my ext hd used by my MBP DOES NOT contain that slideshow. Though you were probably able to figure that out, just thought I'd pass it along in case others may do the same thing and have the same problem. I'll install the beta version on my MBP as well. Bob Hi Dan, Wow, that was a deep bug. It does work fine now on my PM G5. I do have another question, though it may well not be in your purview, if not I understand, but When I use Toast, version 10.0.2 on my PM G5 and neooffice version 3.0.2 patch 0 I get the same situation, itunes songs show up but no photos in iphoto. I don't know enough to know if Roxio actually uses imedia and adapt it for use in toast, if so maybe its based on a previous release of imdeia. Maybe the same holds true for neooffice. just curious, if both apps use imedia, what is the best way to let roxio and the folks at neooffice know? thanks so much for your help and I keep an eye out for the next release of imedia browser. Bob On Feb 8, 2010, at 4:42 PM, Karelia Software wrote: OK, this confirms my suspicions. There's a bug in iPhoto where they are improperly storing the paths to files containing "&" in them, in references to music in your iTunes library, for use in slide shows. In your case the culprit is Joan Baez_ The Complete A&M Recordings. We've actually had this fix for a while, but we hadn't made it public yet. I went ahead and made a new beta version that fixes -- well, works around -- this problem. You can download it here: http://www.karelia.com/beta/iMediaBrowser.dmg Let me know if this doesn't do the trick! -- Dan Wood company@karelia.com Open Radar Community bug reports iPhoto illegal Ampersand XML encoding in AlbumData.xml Originator: dwood Number: rdar://7469235 Date Originated: 2009-12-14 Status: Open Resolved: Product: iApps Product Version: iPhoto 8.1.1 Classification: Serious Bug Reproducible: Always Summary: An saved iPhoto SlideShow incorrectly encodes the '&' character in AlbumData.xml Steps to Reproduce: 1. in iPhoto, create a new Slideshow in the source list. 2. For the music of the slideshow, select a band or track name with '&' in the path, e.g. Simon & Garfunkel 3. Quit iPhoto 4. Examine the XML file ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/AlbumData.xml (for instance, do grep 'Garfunkel' <path_to_AlbumData.xml> Expected Results: In the slideshow data dictionary, the string for the Song_Path key should properly encode the ampersand as & so that external programs can read this file Actual Results: The '&' in the path to the song is not encoded properly, which make this an unreadable file. This causes any of the dozens of shipping applications that use the iMedia Browser framework to be completely unable to read the iPhoto library. Here is a concrete example when I tried it: <key>Song_Path</key> <string>/Volumes/dwood/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Music/Simon & Garfunkel/The Concert In Central Park/05 Scarborough Fair.m4a</string> Regression: Unknown Notes: Note that there is another key "SongPath" which *does* properly encode the '&' in the value. It's not obvious as to why there are two similar keys/values, with one correct and one incorrect. Comments Filed duplicate rdar://7469465 Hope Apple gets on it soon.

    Toast 10 Questions/Trouble

I'll answer as many as I can. When you select "save as disc image, a window will open where you can set where to save the file to and also set the write speed. You may want to set it to two. Yes, once you have the video the way you want it (type menu, button set) in the toast video window, then in the lower right part of that window, click on "save as disc image". Toast will encode it and place an image file where you set it to. Once that image file is created, then double click on it, toast will mount that image on the DT, then open apple dvd player and see if it plays in apple dvd player. If so, then that means that toast is able to encode the video file. You could then either use toast to burn the dvd or you could also use apple's built in disk utility to do the same. Toast allows you to encode/burn up to four hours of video on a standard dvd using its' own compression. Not sure if your dvd player will play dvd-r's or not. that's all I've ever used.

burning downloaded films from the web

Once you have the web video the way you want it in the toast video window, do a "save as disc image". Toast will encode that into a disc image. Once that is done, then open disk utility app, then use the help in disk utility which will instruct you how to burn that toast disc image in disk utility and then use burn disk within the disk utility. I have read that sometimes either toast or disk utility will except a particular dvd that the other won't. May/may not work, but its worth a try.

Also you may want to try using the application "disk utility which is part of os 10. It is not as straight forward as toast, but it is free and another way to see if you can use those dvd's. I have heard of some who were able to use disk utility and were successful.

    dvd Video Menu titles?

Here is the latest response I received from Roxio regarding this issue: Thank you for contacting Roxio Customer Care. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you. Please accept my apologies for the issue that you are encountering and as per the comments, I understand that you are getting interface issues with your PM G4/G5 chipset. We are working closely with macintosh to get Toast 10 Titanium and Popcorn 4 to be stable with the G4/G5 chipset. As of now the program is more stable if yoour PM is a Intel chipset. Here is how I responded to their update: Thank you for your response and update. Here is feedback that I believe is most pertinent. When I use toast 10.0.2 with my PM G4/5, the menus work as expected. It is when I use 10.0.4 or 10.0.5 that the menus are blank. So to me something happened when going from 10.0.2 to 10.0.4 and continues in 10.0.5 that prevents folks who have a PM G4/5 and are trying to get text to appear in menus if they use 10.0.4 or 10.0.5. I also have a MBP (has os 10.5.8 installed) asnd have toast 10.0.4 installed and the menus work as expected. I am not comfortable trying to upgrade from 10.0.4 to 10.0.5 on my MBP due the uncertainty of versions of toast. One other issue that needs to be addressed its’contained in this ticket is using the media browser in either toast 10.0.2, 10.0.4, 10.0.5 and POPCORN 4.01. If I select the convert button, select video, open the media browser, select web video, then go to my facebook page in firefox and select a video, toast/media browser will record said video. I can successfully edit the video, convert and save w/o problems. It is when I go to the media browser, highlight a video, right click on it, select delete, it does delete the video, but then any and all attempts to rerecord that same video does not appear in the media browser. This happens everytime which makes me think that somehow the media browser thinks that that video still exists when it has been deleted. This is with my MBP and using either toast or POPCORN. I await your response. All I can suggest is to do as Tsantee says and use toast 10.0.2 if you still have it. That does work on my PM G5. If you do decide to install 10.0.2 I would suggest that you follow these instructions to remove all toast files first, then trashing those files, do a restart and repair permissions and then install 10.0.2. how to remove toast: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Toast/000014TT If you do a google search on "toast 10.0.2 you may find a link that will allow you to d/l. Don't know if any work.

Toast 10,0.5 and cd burning weirdness

Just out of curiosity, what type mac are you using and what version os? With all the issues being raised about various versions of toast, and I have seen others with the same issue as you, I'm seeing that many (not all) come from folks who are using a PM G4/5 with os 10.5.x while intel macs do better with toast. So I'm thinking that while the current version of toast may be supported on a PM G4/5 (properly configured), there appear to be glitches that are not evident until many people start using it to do various things. Minimum System Requirements * Macintosh® computer with a PowerPC™ G4, PowerPC G5 or Intel® Processor * 1 GB RAM * CD, DVD or Blu-ray recordable drive * Mac OS X v10.5.x (If you’re using Mac OS X v10.4, click here for more information about Toast 9 Titanium) * QuickTime® v7.x * Up to 1 GB free disk space to install all components * Up to 15 GB of temporary free disk space during usage * Internet connection required for some functionality Recommended System Requirements * PowerPC G5 or Intel processor required for encoding and viewing high definition content * 2 GB RAM * Core Image-capable video card I have a PM G4 and G5 that exceeds all the above and have issues with toast that I do not have with my MBP. Yes, I have done all the trash plist files, etc and done complete uninstall/reinstall per Roxio instructions with no success.

    dvd Video Menu titles?

just out of curiosity, are you doing that on a PM G4/5 or an intel mac? When I do that on my PM G4/5 I get no text, if I do that on my intel mac, it works as expected. I've done all the trashing of plists, etc. done complete uninstall/reinstall as described hereseveral times: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Toast/000014TT makes no difference in the outcome. My help ticket with Roxio support is still open w/o a response in two weeks. Who knows what is causing this problem, but to me it renders the creating of dvd's and disc images useless w/o some text on it.

    Spin Doctor 6.0.1

One quirk I have found about cdsd is that when it saves .aiff files, it saves them as .aif, only one "f". try adding a second "f" to the file name and see if another app will open it. My experience is that at times cdsd will not open an .aiff file but if I make a duplicate of that file and change the extension to have only one "f", then cdsd will open it.

Did you try the option to "save a copy as" instead of "save" or "save as". For whatever reason, "save a copy as" IS DIFFERENT from "save" or "save as". Doing a "save a copy as" works for me while the other two options don't.

    Toast Video Player

The easiest way to know if you have the pro version AND have the plugin installed is to open toast and click on the video tab. Look on the left side of the window, if it lists blue-ray video under dvd-video, you have it installed. I may be wrong, but if you only drag the toast app into the app folder from the installer and do not also drag the "pro app" folder that is also in the installer into the app folder, then the blue-ray video will not be listed. Again, I may be wrong, but it takes both folders being copied into the app folder for this to work. Good idea about copying the video player app, hadn't thought of that.

    Toast Video Player

I'm no expert for sure, it may be that the toast video player is only accessed from within toast. It may be that its' not actually a stand alone app as toast, popcorn, etc. If so that wold explain why it isn't seen by finder. It may be that you may need to open a help ticket and ask about the toast video player and how it is employed in toast. As far as a "key" for the plugin, you may also want to do the same. Here is the url to sign in, after you do that the next window has a link to open a help ticket. https://selfserve.roxio.com/%28S%28jwkanh45...9%29/Login.aspx You may also want to send a PM to Patrick or Ivan and ask about a key for the plugin.

    Toast Video Player

Check this link for a tutorial on using toast video payer via the media browser. As far as the bdhd plugin, it comes if you purchased the pro version of toast, or you can also d/l the plugin if you only purchased the standard version. If you purchased the pro version, the plugin is contained in the disc image that is created after running the installer. It is listed as a separate folder from the toast folder that you drag to the apps folder. I can't remember the exact name of the folder, but it will be obvious when you see it. Hope this helps. export button

Check out some tutorials here: http://mymoments.roxio.com/enu/default.html and here: http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=51328 Also, when you click on the convert tab, go down to the video or audio files tab depending on what you want to import and click on that, then drag the files that you want to convert into the middle area. You are right in that the UI is not always intuitive and the manual does leave room for improvement.

    dvd Video Menu titles?

I currently have an open ticket with roxio support trying to figure out what causes this to happen. Steps taken to try to resolve this includes deleting every toast, roxio, cdsd and many other toast related files from the hd, empty trash, then creating a new user, repair permissions, restart, reinstall 10.0.5 in the new user account and I still get the same result. Very perplexing to say the least. I must say that this is happening on my PPC G5 with 10.5.8. I DO NOT have this problem with my MBP 10.5.8 and toast 10..0.4. Not sure why that is. Let's hope.
