Does Toast 12 Use Chapter Markers In Quicktime Movie?

VideoBill

Question

I am considering replacing iDVD with Toast 12. I create my hour-long concert movies in Final Cut Pro X, where I insert a Chapter Marker at the beginning of each song performed in the concert. I export a QuickTime movie (.mov file) from FCPX. When I play the movie in the QuickTime Player, these Chapter Markers are available so I can jump directly to any song in the movie. When I then drag the movie into iDVD, it creates both a Main menu and one or more Chapter (Scene) sub-menus (depending on the template used and the number of Chapter Markers in the movie).

Can I do the same thing in Toast 12? That is, when I import into T12 a QuickTime movie that contains Chapter Markers, will T12 automatically generate the Chapter (Scene) sub-menu(s) containing those Chapter Markers? If so, will it use the marker text that I entered in FCPX, or must I re-type in T12 the text for each marker?

Or, do I need to inspect the entire timeline in FCPX, make note of the Timecode of each Chapter Marker, and then create these markers manually, one by one, in Toast 12?

Thanks,

VideoBill

Thanks! I do have Compressor 4.1.3...it would let me burn a "basic" DVD with chapter markers (including their text) contained in the QuickTime movie created in FCP-X. However, Compressor does not seem to have facilities for adding buttons, music, background image, etc., to the DVD as both iDVD and Toast 12 do.

Are you saying that even manually-created Chapter Markers do not have text? Without text, how does the user of the DVD know what spot in the program a marker will go to? In iDVD, each of my markers has the song title (text) and the picture of the video frame associated with the marker (though I can choose a different frame for iDVD to display).

I am reluctant to spend $100, and then find out that Toast 12 won't import the Chapter Markers contained in a QuickTime movie, and let me specify the song title (text) for each marker. Any idea how I can get a definite answer before spending my hard-earned $$$?

Thanks again!

Toast isn't right for you. It has no audio in the menu. You can change the background and choose an frame from the video for the button image but otherwise there is very little control of the menu. There is an app called DVD Creator that a couple companies are selling that may be a better choice. I thought Compressor had more capability than you describe, but I've never had it to see for myself.
