Playback Prohibited By Area Limitations

bdiament

Question

I just burned a few copies of a music DVD using Toast 11.2.3175.

While they work in the computer's drive, when I put them in the (Sony) DVD player, I get a message saying "Playback prohibited by area limitations."

I've burned music DVDs before and they work fine in the DVD player. I don't know what's different here (other than the last ones I burned being done with an earlier version of Toast).

Is there a bug in this version?

I thought it might be a region setting but don't see any place in Toast to set the region. I followed everything I'd done in the past (had notes for all the settings) and suddenly, with this version of Toast (and Yosemite OS), the DVD player won't play the disc.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Barry

I think what happened is Toast created a PAL-format DVD and your player only accepts NTSC format. Go to Toast Preferences and change the setting to NTSC. Then do the video over again from the start in Toast.

Hi tsantee,

You are exactly right, thank you.

Was just going to post and I see you beat me to it.

Looking through some older notes, this has happened before. I must have trashed the Toast Preferences file and it appears the application defaults to PAL instead of NTSC.

Problem solved.

Thanks so much!

Best regards,

Barry
