Can I Burn To Hd Dvd For Use In Dvd Player?

I've been able to burn my HD movie (made on iMovie, as an mp4) to a DVD as either: Standard Definition for a DVD player, OR High Definition only for a blu-ray player.

 

Can anyone tell me if I can burn to DVD as High Definition to view on a DVD player? (I don't have blu-ray and the SD version is such poor quality).

DVD players cannot play high-definition video. There are alternatives to getting a Blu-ray player. Many HDTVs are "smart" that allow streaming video from a computer, USB flash drive or connected hard drive. There are several products such as Apple TV and WDTV that also support playing HD videos on a connected HDTV.
