JillyJ Posted December 17, 2014 Report Share Posted December 17, 2014 here it goes. I have been checking out the forum, but am not very savvy as to where or how to post a question. So I shall get right down to it. As I see others looking for help, here is my computer. I hope I have all the info: Dell laptop, windows 7 home premium 64 bit SP1, I7-2620M CPU @ 2.70 ghz 8 gig Ram Intel HD graphics, Nividia GE force 525m card running Roxio Creator NXT Pro I have used this program for a few years with no real issues, editing video from my child's soccer games, etc. All of a sudden, whenever I am in the program working on editing, the video becomes choppy and does not move in synch with the voices. It used to work so smoothly with no issues. Now, all I get is chop, and very slow rendering. It has become virtually impossible to work with as it is so "choppy." I read the forums and have done the following. Pretty extreme, but it is what I did. Ha ha the ex, who is a techie, refused to help me eve though it benefits his children, LOL a story for another forum! I reformatted the hard drive, wiped it clean. Wiped my hard drive so only about 20% of the 750 gigs is in use. Re installed the Roxio program. Updated my graphic card. (I figured it was so slow/choppy because my hard drive was filled up to 80%.) So I just wiped it clean. Guess what? The choppiness continued to exist. This was after a clean install after reformatting my hard drive. Is it time for anew program? I don't know what has caused this to occur. Could it be the files off my video camera? It never was an issue before) I use a JVC camera and the video clips end with this extension AVCHD or .mts, or is it they are AVCHD files ending in .mts. JillyJ Posted December 17, 2014 Author Report Share Posted December 17, 2014 I just tried. Guess what? The older video, when put into the Roxio program, works as it should. No chop or nothing. Then, I switched the settings in my camera from Blu-Ray (UXP) to XP, a step below. After looking at the video camera specs, I will say that quality was significantly effected in SP and EP, but XP looked almost as good as the UXP. What I learned (which is Greek to me) is that according to the camera site, the XP clips have a significantly reduced file size and bitrate than the UXP clips. Both clips are .MTS files, so I will guess that the XP rate, because it has a significantly reduced file size and bitrate (again, Greek to me) this translates to a simple "the smaller size video clip works better in the Roxio program." The bottom line is, thank you, Mr. Digital Guru, for teaching me how to fix my issue. Your suggestion to try old video clips to see if they "worked" in the Roxio program caused me to do this. They worked! Which led me to believe a setting in my JVC video camera got knocked out of whack somehow. It did. Settings were set to UXP (BluRay) when they should be set to the next lower standard, XP. Truly, I haven't noticed a difference in quality, and it would appear the Roxio program simply has difficulty working with video clips that have a large "bit rate", whatever that means. To me? Reduce the setting in your camera and you will not have the choppy issues and voice synch issues when editing our videos! The only bad point is I now have about three hours of "large bit rate" video I have to edit through......and wow does it take forever! Again, thanks to Mr. Digital Guru for saving the day! Jim_Hardin Posted December 20, 2014 Report Share Posted December 20, 2014 I suspect this is more of a Computer issue rather than your source... Creator's 2010 & 2011 seemed to have issue with HD source files recorded in the 24+ kbps range so reducing the recording mode was a viable solution... By the time NXT rolled out, these issues were corrected. But while your lap has the specs, does it still have the room? What is your HDD free space??? Also in VideoWave, under Tools, turn OFF SmartEncode as well as Hardware Rendering: See if that improves things Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I moved all my files to an external hard drive, then ran the same program on a brand new high speed gaming computer with a very good graphics card (don't have the specs but close to a GTX 850) but it is a brand new computer,just out of the box that is a present for someone for Christmas. I loaded all the programs.onto it (Adobe elements, office etc and yes, NXT). Lo and behold, the new computer ran the stuff with zero issue. None. No chop. Nothing. And off an external hard drive to boot! Wow. I need one of these computers. Sad thing is my current Dell never had these issues and the NXT always ran well with no chop. So at least, with your assistance, we learned it is NOT the NXT program, but rather, my computer. My computer is using 205 GB of space, and has 473 gb of space reamaining, so it is definiteley not hard drive space causing my issues (is that what HDD is?). JillyJ Posted December 21, 2014 Author Report Share Posted December 21, 2014 DG: I did not have the option to turn off Smart Code under Tools, in fact I did not see it. Tool only gave me "Find panel" and a grayed out "browse for missing files". It did give me the screen shot you depicted (clicking "option") however, so I turned it to "software rendering" from "hardware" and that seemed to get rid of all choppiness. Question - when I render this project into a video, will it still render in the "software" checked mode I switched it into? Thanks for the assist. HDD = Hard Disk Drive ~~~ SSD = Solid State Drive You HDD Free Space seems good but that is only part of the picture. It also needs to be defragmented space. Windows will claim you don't need to up until the point it will say there isn't enough room to defrag the disk Newer OS's will do this automatically with Weekly being the default. (SSD's are not to be defragmented as they do so by themselves and the extra defrag shortens their lifespan... Of course, lo and behold I tried to work on a project today with the software setting s discussed, and it was back to being choppy as it was before. I do not mind the rendering time, albeit very slow. I do mind not being able to work on a project because it is so choppy - the sound plays but the video does not move. Oh well. Since I never had this issue in the past 3 years, I guess my laptop is on its last legs. Thanks for the help, anyway! I will have to deal with it until I break out the bank on a new laptop. First thing to do is to turn off your Anti Virus, Firewalls, Registry Cleaners, etc. Reboot and insert your Roxio Disc. Be sure you accept the offer to Check for Updates (this is for Roxio, not Windows) When you reach the screen where Repair is offered, choose that! When the Repair competes, turn your AV & Firewall back on and reboot. This will 'refresh' everything and just might do the trick! If you have, you may want to go to an earlier version of the driver; if you haven't, you may want to update the driver. The Dell website driver page should give you all you want. Thank you in advance. Yes, get the old drivers from Dell (download them to your computer) Go to your desktop and right click in a blank spot. Your control panel should show up. You should be able to delete the old driver, reboot and then install the new drivers. This is from NVidia on uninstalling video card drivers. (link). If that doesn't work, you should be able to use Device Manager to delete the drives for your card/chip. Windows will then default to the built in drivers. You can then install the older drivers after a reboot. Make sure that you have downloaded the older drivers from NVidia before hand. You can do a search for the one you want. The new (Gen4) Intel i5 and I7 have very good on-board GPU (graphics processing units) so you still may not need a separate video card. AMD calls their chips something else but I don't know anything about those but they also say they are "better". I have a laptop that uses the on-board video chip and it works well. From you response, I may be over thinking this, i.e. I don't need a new computer with a dedicated card, and integrated graphics my work fine for me. I will try to uninstall the drivers. Thanks you. JillyJ Posted February 11, 2015 Author Report Share Posted February 11, 2015 Thank you to all. It's been a frustrating experience, but I think I have the answer now. Yes, it has taken several weeks to figure out, but I owe it to all the thread readers who may have this issue in the future, to try this. Everything continued to be choppy. I could not insert sound clips exactly where I wanted, the sound would not match up with choppy video, the video would not play smoothLy......and I blamed it on the program ALTHOUGH I HAVE USED ROXIO FOR YEARS WITH FEW ISSUES! Then, the rendering took forever! I mean, a 30 minute video could take 4 hours to render. So by chance, I noticed that my laptop was hot. I stuck it in an empty freezer to render, and it sped up dramatically. I took the back of my laptop off, to see if there was a bunch of dust. No there was not. So dust was not clogging my fan or anything else, it did not appear. It seemed overheating was the culprit. So on to Aliexpress.com for a nice laptop tray fan, which took about three weeks to receive from China. Just hooked it up. 5 fans blowing. Low and behold, with the fan on (and even though my laptop had been running all day).......drum roll........... the Roxio editing is no longer choppy!!!!! So, those searching for an answer, I suggest the issue is NOT with the Roxio program, but rather, my superb three year old Dell I7 laptop is getting up in age, and developing overheating issues. The fan corrected the issue and the program performing as it has in the past. I probably will still run down to MicroCenter and have them clean the insides of my computer out, and put some new paste on the fan (google it - I know nothing of this other than some sort of cooling paste becomes brittle with age and needs to be replaced.) THANKS TO ALL YOU KIND HELPERS AND EXPERT OUT THERE. I AM NOW ONE PLEASED LADY. SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO MESSRS. HARDIN AND SKNIS!!!! THANK YOU ALL!
