Burning Dvd

James Brian

Question

I have,

Macbook Pro

Yosemite 10.10.1

Final Cut Pro X

Toast 12

Canon XA20 Camcorder

Movie format AVCHD

Panasonic Blueray DVD player

1. I have created a movie project in FCPX and in AVCHD and exported it into Quicktime Movie (mov) format.

2. I have then imported the (mov) file into Toast 12 and set High definition to a DVD DL disc and set the custom menu in Toast for the burning of the DVD.

3. I have inserted the burnt DVD into my DVD player and it does not open automatically and on insertion it does not have the Toast menu and the front end. When I insert the burnt project disc into my DVD player it come on the TV screen " Play Video (AVCHD)" with no menu or automatically coming up with the menu.

3 Also it does not run at all on other DVD players.

When I was running an older version of FCPX and iDVD I had not problem as this. It was more intuitive.

Can someone guide me in the right direction as I apparently am not setting Toast up properly or is it another problem???

Regards

James Brian

I have same setup... with both Toast 11 & 12... after 12 failed to burn any DVDs I reinstalled my old 11 which worked... Now I still cannot burn and DVDs.. even data DVDs.... had to Use Mac OS Finder to burn Data...

I believe it's with Yosemite... so many same reports...

I can burn CDs all day long with either 11 or 12.

I repaired permissions, ran Onyx for Yosemite, turned off all Login Apps like DropBox, Google Drive, PopChar, & KeyCue.

Got The following error Dialog for every attempt to burn DVDs (screenshot enclosed)

I would like to know when Roxio is going to fix this problem as they have sold a product Toast 12 falsifying what its capabilities are. The new Mac Yosimine operating system has been out for over 3 months and I purchased Toast 12 less that 2 weeks ago.

We should ally together to expose this to get Roxio to fix the problem.

You say you burned a high-definition DVD. This only plays on Blu-ray players as regular DVD players can only play standard-definition DVDs. As for playing on the Mac, the Mac does not come with any software to play Blu-ray format video discs (which is what your high-definition DVD is). Toast includes Roxio Video Player in the Extras menu to play non-commercial Blu-ray videos but there is no active menu. VLC Media Player also can play the discs with no active menu.

In Toast it gives the option to burn Standers Definition, High Definition and Blu Ray. I have burnt to High Definition successfully but with no front end menu even though I have set the menu option in Toast. With the finished burnt DVD when I insert it into my DVD player it come up with "Play AVCHD" and successfully plays.

Will this DVD play on other DVD players?

No. It requires a Blu-ray player to play the high-definition disc even though it is burned to DVD media.
