Longer Usb Cable?

Has anyone changed out the USB cable for a longer one? My desktop computer is about 15 feet away from my XBOX One and TV. I used an older USB 2.0 A to B cable that was 15 foot long and I got no video signal to the TV or PC. Power was on for the Capture box but nothing. I switch back to the shorter included cable and it works fine. I know it says USB 2.0 everywhere for the cable but is their a limitation on length, or a level of quality of cable required?

With the longer cable, there may be enough voltage drop (since the cable supplies power to the capture device) that it doesn't operate properly. If you can find a "better" cable, it may work. Or, you could try using a powered USB hub near the RGC HD Pro, then the longer USB cable will only need to carry the signal, not the power too, and that may work.

Just got a 16' gold plated USB A-B cable from Staples. Going to try it out tonight. This thing was 42.99 in store, but was on sale for 6.49 on Staples.com and got them to price match it.

The RGC will not work through a powered hub??? At least not just using it as a source to wake up the RGC

 

Might just work as Dave suggests... Anyone care to try that? - PC >> USB to Powered Port >> USB to RGC

Jim, just dug out all the parts, and yes, the RGC Pro HD does work through a powered hub. So if the original poster's gold plated cable doesn't work, then a powered USB might do the trick for him.

Good - what I was eluding to is that a Powered Hub by itself Will Not work with the RGC without a PC

Correct, Jim. There still has to be a connection to the PC with the proper drivers installed to activate the RGC.

I have done some pretty scary temporary wiring of components Things like extension cords with some copper wires stuck in to make the next connections...

The higher quality USB A-B cable (Gold Plated) from Staples worked. Seems like the poor quality cable just cant keep up with the bandwidth.

I'd be quite sure it's a power issue, not a bandwidth issue, and the RGC HD Pro just wasn't getting enough power through the cable to work properly. In either case though, I'm happy your new cable is working!
