Have Xp Sp3 And Need To Use .cif Images

Hi,

A few years ago I burned many audio CD images firstly with Easy CD Pro then with EZCD 5.

I had misplaced all these files and now use Roxio 2009 and Nero for my newer images all with XP on a box not connected to internet or anything.

Now I have found these original images and need to use them.

I tried with 2009 but nothing, then tried to convert the cif to iso with MagicISO also with no luck.

After seaching I unbelievably found my EZCD5 CD. I tried to install it on my XP box but is said the program was not compatible.

Please how can I get my cif files to where I can use them?

Thanks

Hi Oz,

I tried with 2009 but nothing, then tried to convert the cif to iso with MagicISO also with no luck.

The international CD standards do not allow an ISO image to contain CD Audio, so you can't make an ISO from a CD Audio disc. If you can't use ECDC5, find a program which can burn CIF files to disc.

After seaching I unbelievably found my EZCD5 CD. I tried to install it on my XP box but is said the program was not compatible.

Don't believe the message that says the program is incompatible with XP. I have been installing ECDC5 and using it under XP for years.

Please see this post [link]for how to do it. It is a topic pinned at the top of this forum. Follow the topic carefully, and if you have any problems get back to me here.

Brendon

HI,

Many thanks for the reply and yes that worked !!

However, whilst I have it installed and working, and updated 5.02 to 5.1 I cannot get to burn a cif.

The Drop Down menu shows the Burn to Image etc grayed out. I can burn to CD but not to/fro image.

I was able to get the files using image loader then using Nero burned them to a disc which I will then burn to image.

A long way around and I have over 50 of these I need to save.

Why would the image part be grayed out? Any idea ?

Many thanks for the help thus far.

Hmmm, the only thing that comes to mind immediately is that Creator isn't recognising your drive.

-What is the drive ID of your burner? You can display that in Device Manager > DVD/CDROM Drives. [Here are my two, the DW1640 and the H16X]

-Can you burn an ordinary data or music disc from files?

-Have you applied the 'Drive Updater' to your installation? This is a series of updater files that added new drives to the look-up recognition table in the software. The latest software update was version 5.3.5.1, and the latest drive updater was 5.3..5.1v.

-what is your version of ECDC5? Basic or Platinum?

HI again,

I went and looked for the Updater and found a link you had put on this forum in 2013 I think. It was to Afterdawn.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cd_dvd/burning/easy_cd_creator_plt_upgrade.cfm

When I tried to install it I go a message from my Virus Program that it was an 'Unwanted Program'. It did say it was also including some 'Search Protect' script. I guess that alerted it. ! Anyway I kept on searching and found a link to Roxio which still had it.

http://www.roxio.com/Registration/myaccount/Downloads.aspx?download_id=22

ecdc_v5.3.5.10_plt_enu.exe

It works after XP is rebooted 2 or 3 times and uses..'Last known ..'

I noticed in About it says.. 5.1.0.104 not 5.3

I was able to burn to an image as a .cif and burn a cd from that image.

Anyway, if I recall I can only burn to 1 drive.

I also wish it burnt an image in a file which is generic like an iso rather than the cif which means I have to use EZCD.

As I said before I also have 2009 Clasic so is there a way that it can burn the cif image?

Thanbks for your help.

Hi Ozstar,

Congratulations on your search ability. You did well finding those things.

Unfortunately the Afterdawn link has been changed and is now pointing at one of those horrid downloaders which will give you the download you want, but only if you accept their addware and download via their download manager. Avoid it! Disappointing - Afterdawn used to be better than that.

I'm not sure what you did with the updater. It shouldn't have needed the restore to "Last known Good . . ." It sounds like it has installed the files but had a glitch with the settings so you've restored your old registry again.

That sounds like an ugly state for it to be in, and if you were going to keep ECDC5 running I'd recommend you uninstall and clean it up, then reinstall and reupdate. But still, it is handling .CIF files so it must be hanging in there for the moment. :)

I also wish it burnt an image in a file which is generic like an iso rather than the cif which means I have to use EZCD.

As I said before, because of the CD Standard you can't make ISOs from audio discs, so you have to put up with strange proprietary formats like .CIF or .C2D or Nero's .NRG - it's a pain but we can't help it.

For your last question, I installed Creator 2009 to try it [to be sure] and it burned some .CIF files to disc without fuss.

After installing Creator 2009, if you right-click on a .CIF file you should see the option to burn it with Disc Copier

OR you can run Creator Classic > Burn from Disc Image File, like I just did.

How's that? Will that work for you?
