Burning Iso With Nxt

Recommended Posts

Hi, A small group of us is working on a DVD project using different NXT licences and different computers (Windows 7 and 8). The problems (this is just one of them!!) we are facing are on all licences and all computers. It also has nothing to do with transferring files between computers (it still exists using all files from a single computer). The next thing to say is that I have solved the problem by going back to an old EMC10 on an old XP desktop - long live EMC!! - long live XP!! The problem is this - when burning to ISO from MyDVD for a movie made up of several .mpg files, when playing the ISO file the end of each .mpg file plays very jerkily. The last 2 or 3 seconds of each .mpg will not play smoothly. I've tried using different ways of generating the .mpg files. I've tried adding the .mpg files as separate movies instead of a single movie, but this won't work because of a problem with MyDVD (I've decided to cover this in a separate topic). Other tests I've carried out have convinced me there is a flaw in the ISO generation, not with the .mpg files. If I transfer all of the .mpg files to EMC10 on XP and burn the ISO file from MyDVD10 everything works fine - the ISO file plays perfectly. All settings are as identical as they can be between these different versions. If I then transfer the ISO file back to my Windows 8 PC it still plays perfectly. I am obviously having to use this as a work around, but it would be great if anyone can suggest a remedy for NXT, or maybe tell me what we are all doing wrong.

Are you familiar with the Carriage Return? It is easier to answer questions when you can read them!

"Playing the ISO files" - what does that mean? They are an image, intended to BURN onto disc. But I guess you could Mount them to utilize that format as a way to transport a Project...

If that is what you are doing, you should try it as a Folder Set which will give you the same resulting portability without the extra steps.

But for the basic issue, fast or jerky play at the end describe a Project in detail so some of us can see if it can be replicated ;)

Hi Jim, Many thanks for your reply. I am familiar with CR and would love to use it, but my posts do not accept them. I can press CR all day but nothing happens - any clues? (CR does of course work in other programs). I was going to try to split it up with spaces, but I previewed the post before posting and the spaces are removed!!! So I'll try it with ==

You can play ISO files with a program such as VLC media player. Very useful for just playing on a PC without the need for burning a DVD.

I'll have a go at describing a project.........Create 3 Videowave projects containing a few panels of stills and/or videos with a still or video as the last panel (not a colour panel). My settings - 16:9,PAL.

Create 3 .mpg files using these Videowave projects (via the export icon). My settings - DVD Playback, PAL, MPEG-2 for DVD best quality.

Open MyDVD, start a new project (my settings are 16:9, PAL and the following defaults - Play Movie only, Acoustic alert after burning, Fit to disk, Interlaced). Select "Add new movie", select all 3 .mpg files and "add the video clips as a single movie". (Another fault here is that my MyDVD will not play audio during preview, although the video plays perfectly - no jerkiness!!) Select the Burn button and select only "Save disk image file" and then "Burn".

Of course, if you can't play an ISO file you are not going to see the problem without actually burning a disk. This made me think whether burning a disk would resolve the problem, but no, I burned a disk from the ISO file and the problem was still there on the disk. The last 2 or 3 seconds of each video clip do not play smoothly - it jerks (ie. stops and starts a few times)

If I didn't also get the problem on a different laptop running a different NXT licence on Windows 7 I would almost think it was my Windows 8 PC causing all these issues.

As I said previously this problem does not exist in EMC10 on XP, and you would not notice it if the final panel in a Videowave project is a colour panel. Unfortunately in this project I do not want to finish with a colour panel.

You mention the folder sets - I recall producing these once many years ago, not understanding what they were, and not bothering with them again.

By the way, although I have my forum settings to get email notifications I don't get them!! Maybe the Roxio forum is as problem-prone as the Roxio programs themselves.

Anyway, many thanks again for your assistance and apologies again for no CRs.

Dave

What transitions are you using between your video clips? In Videowave, go into Tools -> Options, and change the Rendering setting. It defaults to "Hardware", and if that's how it's set, try changing it to "Software."

As for the CR not working, what browser are you using? (Name and version.) I'm currently using Firefox 35.0.1, and CR works fine.

Out of harm's way [the other Dave]

I took the liberty of trying to help by inserting some CRs for you. Hope you don't mind, but reading your post was quite hard work otherwise.

Yes, the board software auto-concatenates multiple spaces. :(

Have you tried using the "More reply options" button to use the advanced editor when posting, in case it works better for you?

Cheers,

Brendon

Hi d_deweywright, Many many thanks. Changing to Software rendering did the trick. Difficult to understand why because this changes the MPEGs - the old MPEGs work with EMC10. To answer your other questions - no transitions between the MPEG video clips and I use IE10.0.9200.17228. CR works ok in other forums!! =====================Finally, Brendon, "More Reply Options" merely hides previous posts and gives a bigger box to write in. Many thanks to all who responded, but particularly d_deweywright.

Brendon - I appreciate the edits you made

out of harms way: Glad you got it resolved with Dave's suggestion!

To the CR's, I forgot that using Internet Explorer does not work right on Roxio's site! After fighting it for as long as I could stand it, I switched to FireFox and use that when I come to this site :(

  • 3 weeks later...

Just got round to looking at the forum again – although I have set my options to get email notification, I don't!!

I'm writing this in OpenOffice to get round the CR issue – how do Roxio get away with not working properly with IE?

Anyway, the purpose of my post – to let you know if you are not already aware that using software rendering from Videowave removes many transitions from the available list. What I do if I want to use one of these unavailable transitions is to use hardware rendering from Videowave and then software rendering from MyDVD – works a treat.

Many thanks for your assistance.

I am using IE to make this post

and as you can see there is no problem

adding Cr's to the post.

So Roxio is not getting away with anything!

Software rendering does not "remove" any transitions but they just become unavailable because they can only be rendered using your graphics hardware.

Once you have rendered in Videowave, there is no rendering done (or needed to be done) in myDVD unless you change some of the render settings.

Once you have rendered in
