Guest mlpasley Report post Posted January 20, 2006 At one time, there was a live chat on the other board which I never saw used. However, I think a live chat board is a good idea, but you'd need a better way to see if someone was online and available to chat than the old board. I've used AIM or Yahoo IM on occasion to chat with someone 'walk them through' a technique.
The Highlander 6 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 Hey ML, yer i remember that, i also wondered why ppl didnt chat on there.......
Guest mlpasley Report post Posted January 20, 2006 Hey ML,yer i remember that, i also wondered why ppl didnt chat on there....... There's a reason why IM programs work so well. You can see which members of your 'group' are available to chat. The only way you can see if someone is online here (or on the old boards), is by clicking on their screenname. Most new people, who are the ones who need the most help, don't know how to do that. Also, the information on the chat board disappeared when you stopped chatting. That makes it difficult if you're trying to troubleshoot a problem. I might see the problem one way, but someone in another time zone might have the correct solution a few hours later. If the troubleshooting is done in 'chat', the history of what was tried would be lost.

Guest mlpasley Report post Posted January 20, 2006 (edited) I just reread my last post and it reads like I'm against the chat board. That's not what I meant. I think it's a good idea and voted FOR the chat board. Edited January 20, 2006 by mlpasley
Brendon 204 Report post Posted January 21, 2006 The only way you can see if someone is online here (or on the old boards), is by clicking on their screenname. Most new people, who are the ones who need the most help, don't know how to do that. The little indicator at the bottom left of each message (on/off Card PM) shows the poster's status. When you look at yours it will always be on (grin) but when you go off-board it will switch to "Off" for anyone else who's looking at it. [What is the CARD button for?] I don't think a chat forum would be such a good idea, although I know just the person to lurk in there and have the last say on everything.
