I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 9200 computer (Specs below). It arrived packaged with a "Roxio MyDVD LE". I ordered and downloaded the "MyDVD Creator 8 Premier" package. However, the program continues to either freeze up (requiring CTR-ALT-DEL to clear), or simply crashes. I've tried a lot of different things to resolve the problem as outlined below with no success. I'm wondering if I should un-install the originally provided "MyDVD LE' which came packaged with my computer
Following is a description of what I've done to date:
1. Using the originally packaged MyDVD LE, I was successful in importing a home movie (SONY VOB format from a Sony Handycam mini DVD) which I had copied to my harddrive. I created a title, did minor editing (such as trimming) and then was successful in burning a DVD which played perfectly on my home DVD player.
• This indicates to me there is no problem with the home video file and that at least MyDVD LE edition will read/import it properly.
• However, no editing was possible - so I elected to buy the upgraded version from Roxio.
2. I purchased "Roxio MyDVD Creator 8 Premier" edition as a download (large file - 372 megs!)
3. During the installation the wizard detected two conflicts and said the conflicting programs had to be un-installed in order to proceed with the installation (Unfortunately I didn't write down the programs, but I think one was Dell CinePlayer??)
4. Installation proceeded successfully and I was able to launch the program OK. Most modules seem to be OK, but the one I really want to use - importing a home video off either the hard drive or DVD drive - causes the program to either freeze or crash. Specifically:
• If I try START-All Programs-My DVD Premier 8-DVD&Video-Media Import - the Media Import module loads OK but when I select Import Video (or Import Photo), the program crashes immediately. (That sequence is the one recommended by Roxio for import)
• Similarily, if I load either the "MyDVD" module or the "VideoWave" module or the "Media Manager" module and click on "Import/Capture " in either of those modules - the program freezes and I have to CTRL_ALT_DEL to escape.
Thinking there may have been a problem with the original download, I downloaded again (received exactly same number of bytes as first time) - uninstalled the first download and installed the second download. No difference. Same problems.
On Roxio's support page, the only reference I could find to a similar problem was a conflict caused by an "RXFilter" - I downloaded and ran the corrective patch - no luck. Same problems.
If you have any suggestions, I'd sure appreciate it 'cause I've tried everything I can think of!!
Thanks in advance
