Crashing and Freezing MyDVD 8 & VideoWave

rockymthse

Question

I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 9200 computer (Specs below). It arrived packaged with a "Roxio MyDVD LE". I ordered and downloaded the "MyDVD Creator 8 Premier" package. However, the program continues to either freeze up (requiring CTR-ALT-DEL to clear), or simply crashes. I've tried a lot of different things to resolve the problem as outlined below with no success. I'm wondering if I should un-install the originally provided "MyDVD LE' which came packaged with my computer

Following is a description of what I've done to date:

1. Using the originally packaged MyDVD LE, I was successful in importing a home movie (SONY VOB format from a Sony Handycam mini DVD) which I had copied to my harddrive. I created a title, did minor editing (such as trimming) and then was successful in burning a DVD which played perfectly on my home DVD player.

• This indicates to me there is no problem with the home video file and that at least MyDVD LE edition will read/import it properly.

• However, no editing was possible - so I elected to buy the upgraded version from Roxio.

2. I purchased "Roxio MyDVD Creator 8 Premier" edition as a download (large file - 372 megs!)

3. During the installation the wizard detected two conflicts and said the conflicting programs had to be un-installed in order to proceed with the installation (Unfortunately I didn't write down the programs, but I think one was Dell CinePlayer??)

4. Installation proceeded successfully and I was able to launch the program OK. Most modules seem to be OK, but the one I really want to use - importing a home video off either the hard drive or DVD drive - causes the program to either freeze or crash. Specifically:

• If I try START-All Programs-My DVD Premier 8-DVD&Video-Media Import - the Media Import module loads OK but when I select Import Video (or Import Photo), the program crashes immediately. (That sequence is the one recommended by Roxio for import)

• Similarily, if I load either the "MyDVD" module or the "VideoWave" module or the "Media Manager" module and click on "Import/Capture " in either of those modules - the program freezes and I have to CTRL_ALT_DEL to escape.

Thinking there may have been a problem with the original download, I downloaded again (received exactly same number of bytes as first time) - uninstalled the first download and installed the second download. No difference. Same problems.

On Roxio's support page, the only reference I could find to a similar problem was a conflict caused by an "RXFilter" - I downloaded and ran the corrective patch - no luck. Same problems.

If you have any suggestions, I'd sure appreciate it 'cause I've tried everything I can think of!!

Thanks in advance

I have a new Dell XPS and did the exact same thing as you did. Used LE then upgraded to Easy Media Creator 8. LE worked fine but now every time I try to Burn a movie or output a video I get error message "80040227 Error while  Encoding Movie" and then the program freezes up. Anyone got any help for this. I do have IE 7 installed if that means anything.

Thanks,

Kevin

krevas...search this error in the roxio support knowledgebase...i've seen it there with a solution for it.

rocky, i just wanted to make sure i understand you completely. when you say "crash or crashes", do you get any error messages? or...you leave the computer for about 15 to 30 minutes just to see how long it will "hang" or "crash". have you added any other software other than the Creator 8 Premiere purchase?

My suggestion for the remedy is this:

1) Download a file at Microsoft.com called "microsoft installer clean up"...install this software to your computer. Use this software to remove all instances of Roxio, and Sonic.

2) use explorer to remove Roxio and Sonic in the Program files folder, Program files/common, and also, in documents settings/%username%/application data/. NOTE: if there are files that won't let you delete them because they are in use, just drag them to your desktop, and delete them later.

3) click start/run and type in regedit.NOTE: if you are not familiar with registry editor, DO NOT CONTINUE. but if you are, then find the CURRENT USER/Software and delete Roxio, and Sonic. Then go to LOCAL Machine/Software, and delete Roxio and Sonic.

4) Re-install Creator 8 Premiere. If you get a "CD Key not valid message", search for this error in the roxio support, and you should see a file you can download to fix this problem. If you are able to continue without the Invalid CD Key error, then you are good to go. Restart the computer. IF THE COMPUTER HANGS during the shutdown, and give it some time, like 15 to 30 minutes. I think Windows is having a hard time on the restart, anyway. If the machine hangs, hold down the power button on the computer until it shuts down. DO NOT USE THE "RESET" button. Restart in SAFE MODE, then just restart in Normal mode. SAFE MODE because, Windows did not shut down properly.

This should fix your problem...just give your computer some time to get used to the new software, i.e. let it load all the startups and services...you also might want to take out some items in startup that you don't really need to start. You can use MSCONFIG do to that....

MAKE SURE YOU ARE familiar with the steps above before you PROCEED.
