Help, Installer Isn't Working

Question

So everytime I run the installer from the CD it gets to check for updates and then vanishes and nothing happens.
I've tried running as administrator, running in compatibility windows 7, disabling my firewall and AV,
downloading an installer from somewhere else. Nothing seems to be working.
I run windows 8 with at least the minimum requirments and have avast antivirus (if that helps.)

downloading an installer from somewhere else.

What installer?

Where, post a link.

http://www.gamefront.com/files/21971638/ROXIO.r

I don't understand how that helps. Like I said, I have the CD I just thought there might be a problem with it.

Any ideas?

Well at 71.39 MB I'm at a loss what it is!

The installation disc is 462 MB.

So if you ran that download what is it?

it's the game capture software and the installer for a few others I think. It didn't work and had the same problem as the CD.

edit: just the installers

It's not "the game capture software" I told you the size of the software disc and the size of the download!

Roxio is the only one to post their property so what ever that download it is illegal.

So what that other download put on your PC is in question.

Run in a administrator account, no compatibility mode, and don't check for updates.

What happens?

Same thing, setup just vanishes and the disk drive stops spinning like the CD isn't being read anymore.

You're not helping us very much. You've posted in the "Game Capture for Consoles" forum. Is that what you have?

Apparently you have the disc that came with it? What happens when you run that and tell it not to check for updates? Or is there no option to tell it not to check for updates? And in your description, feel free to use lots of words as you're not charged by the word when you post, and clearer descriptions help us to figure out what is going on.

Also, try copying the contents of the CD to your hard drive, then run the setup from there. If there is an error copying files from the CD, then yes, there may be an issue with the CD.

Let us know.

The version I have is the regular Roxio Game capture (not HD pro.)

Model no. is 540960-02CA

There is an option to tell it not to check for updates but each time I click check or don't check I get the same problem. The box just closes and the disk stops spinning in the drive, like it's not being read anymore.

I just tried copying it to a folder and running setup.exe in the root folder but still no joy, same problem. It managed to copy over though, so I guess there's isn't anything wrong with the CD.

My specs are:

Intel Core i5-5200U

Intel HD graphics 5500

8GB DDR3 L Memory

with an Aspire E 15 Laptop

I hope this enough information.

The next thing I would suggest is posting the install log file here so we can see if that tells us anything. I'm not where I can look for the location for that file now, maybe someone else will see this and be able to point you to it, or you can do a look on your system for a xxx.log file with today's date.

Where did you get that CD? That downloaded compressed file seems to be the directory of the installed program and not the package to install the program. If you somehow extracted that compressed download to your system you probably corrupted your whole Roxio program

The CD came with the the capture card which I got from a local gameshop. And I was having the problem before downloading that rar, hence resorting to downloading.

still looking for the install log.

I think "NO_ONLINE_ACCESS = 0" is the same as "ONLINE_ACCESS = 1". I tried to follow the link listed for the updater, and that page doesn't exist, so there's definitely a problem with the page to check for updates.

NO_ONLINE_ACCESS = 0

Your right Dave, my installation log reads the same 'NO_ONLINE_ACCESS = 0"

That's true, but that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't try to access that page. However, try disconnecting from the internet first, and then running the installer. (In theory, NO_ONLINE_ACCESS would get set to "1".) Maybe that'll get you by that problem. And then after it's installed, you can reconnect for any registrations it needs to do.

It's worth a shot.

Hey that actually worked, thank you!

I have a new problem though, I can register offline, but every time I go to register online, I click next once I've filled out the forms and absolutely nothing happens, it just stays on the form page. And I know it hasn't frozen because I can click other stuff or change the form. How important is registering online? Will I not have certain features?

Also last question. Can I use a composite to component converter to play older consoles through the game capture, or is that non-compatible?

Very cool! I'm glad that worked!

As for registration, if it's the page where you register your Roxio product, it won't affect how it works, or unlock anything, it basically becomes a backup of your registration information (CD Install Key and the like). So keep track of that number, and the CD. I suggest writing the CD key right onto the top of the CD with a marker. As long as you have the CD, you have the install key.
