Why Does T7 Think My Video Files Are Audio Playlists?

I'm trying to use T7.0.2 to author a DVD using four MPEG-2 video files created in a separate application (ffmpegX). The files all play fine in QT7 and VLC, but when I drag them into Toast, it reads them as audio playlists each containing 1 song that lasts 44 minutes. Not good.

I also tried using MPEG Streamclip to join the four separate .mpg files together. When I drag *this* single big .mpg into Toast, it works perfectly. So what gives?

And is there any good reason why I can't add chapters to MPEG-2 video within Toast?
