Canon Zr10 And Newer Imac

hi! newbie here, so thanks in advance for reading my many questions.

with my old miniDV camcorder, i'm unable to connect to my newer iMac (no firewire port) so i'm hoping this product may be the solution? the camcorder has a stereo video port and an s-video port. i'd love to be able to plug and burn (a feature that i read about in toast?) as i have over 50 tapes and don't want to do editing at this time - just want to get them onto digital media. i read that usb does a horrible job with video - is that a problem with this product? is the 'capture' done through iMovie? would i use both the s-video and audio cables? from there, it says you can send it directly to toast. is that without needing to be saved/exported/converted/shared via iMovie? i found in the past that this last step in iMovie takes HOURS... and with 50+ tapes, i'm almost thinking of sending out rather than managing myself... does anyone have a user manual that i could read?
