Puzzled!

Installing C2011 Special Edition Problem - Split From Hijacked Thread

Question

Hi

I have just had a new SSD drive fitted in my pc with my Win 7 64bit home edition.

On trying to load Creator 2011 Special Edition, it gets about 2/3 of the way through and then starts to roll back. The message given is "Your System Has Not Been Modified".

I know that I have DirectX v11 installed and creator wants to load v9 but it gets past that before it goes wrong.

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated as I want to get this installed before I install PSP x8.

Thank you

Edit to apologise for hi-jacking another thread. I thought that the subject of loading difficulties into Win7 was close enough to be covered by that thread.

Just thought. Could I please ask just one more question?

Could anyone tell me where I can get Audio and Video codecs from, for converting one format to another? I totally forget where I got them from last time.

Many thanks again.

Randomly going around the INTERNET and downloading Audio and Video codecs could upset your Roxio installation.

What special Audio and Video codecs do you need that Roxio Creator 2011 doesn't have?

Well, seeing as the only formats available in the conversion window are -

iPod ACC

MP3 in good or low quality

WAV

WMA in good or low quality

There is flac, ogg vorbis, ape and quite a few others which people use.

You realize that the SE edition was somewhat crippled. I don't remember what was not included but someone else may.

I agree with cd, just adding codecs may not fix the problem and will most likely cause it to be worse because the new codecs will take over for the ones that SE needs to run properly.

Thanks Dave and sknis.

The video codecs you suggested, Dave, are now bookmarked for future use.

No, sknis, I didn't know that the SE edition was crippled in any way. Maybe, as you and cdanteek suggest, I should not try to add anything to the program and if I need to convert something which isn't covered by Creator, then I should find a dedicated converter possibly like 'anyconverter' which Dave suggested.

I think that this is the time to quit whilst I am still ahead and once again thank you all for your, and everyone else's, help. I hope that if someone else has the same or similar problems, this thread may help them as well.

Many thanks to you one and all.

Thank you myguggi, yes, I already use Audacity and MP3Gain and I'm aware that there are some good free converters out there as well.

As I said in my previous post, If I need to do anything which Creator cannot, then yes, I will find a suitable (free) program and use that.

Thanks again

To sknis. Another curious comment about a Roxio software program without explanation. I currently use Creator 2011 SE, and have for a number of years. In what manner is Creator 2011 SE "crippled"? I and possibly others might want to know.

Wish I could remember what was limited other than a back up program. Perhaps someone else has a better memory.

Just FYI:

In many cases, this bundled software (added by skins OEM) is a version of a program that is also sold on its own as a stand alone product. Sometimes it is a feature-limited version of the retail software, often dubbed as a "special edition" (SE) or "limited edition" (LE).

It does not have the backup utility to the best of my knowledge, as you indicate. However, I wouldn't use this backup utility in any event. I was also under the impression that the "Special Edition"

tag was related to the USB Video capture device that was included with the software.

Thanks for your response.

SE didn't have a video capture device. Perhaps you are thinking about a different program?

I also think that some audio/video format options were not included.

How important is is anyway since this is about 7 versions ago? I doubt that there is anyone from Roxio still around that remembers but you could ask them if you really need the information.

As a matter of fact, it did include a video capture device. I can confirm that it did because I have the Roxio package that included the installation disc and video capture device. Don't know if this was a limited release, but Roxio definitely offered it for sale in this combination.
