Uploading My Own Music

I want to use my own music I have purchased through iTunes in my Photoshows, but when I go to my iTunes Media Library and click on a song it takes forever, telling me it is transcoding, but then eventually tells me it can't. How do I get this to work?!!

Check and see if your itunes are copy protected?

Well, since I can purchase them and store them on my computer and then also copy them to my phone, I would assume I could use them. But how would I know they are copy protected? What do I look for in my iTunes Media Library to know? And if I can't use them, luckily I only wasted 5 bucks on a steel pan album, but it's going to cost me extra work.

I actually think the problem may be that my iTunes Media Library songs are MP4, not MP3. So I guess there is no way for this to work?
