Dmsm Files Not Viewable

RobPlacek

Question

I've been a long time Roxio user and have upgraded to NXT Pro 4 becasue I was told my older Roxio product (2010) isn't supported by Windows 10. When trying to create a DVD from a saved slideshow (DMSM format) I proceed to the create DVD button, MyDVD opens but I cannot select any DMSM files, just AVI or WAV files. The older Roxio software would be able to select the DMSM file and create the DVD. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help????

It is highly doubtful that NXT 4 has any of the transitions, etc., that Creator 2010 had. Try this, to see what happens. Without the Roxio program being open, go to the folder where the .dmsm file is, and double click on it. What happens?

Did you create that dmsm project file in NXT 4? If yes then you have to first prepare it in Videowave for authouring in NXT 4's myDVD by rendering it to a video file.

myDVD in NXT 4 is totally useless - it is a completely different program than what was found in previous versions of Roxio Creator or NXT. It will not accept any dmsm project file. You were told previously that newer versions of Roxio do not accept project files from older Roxio programs. Your best option is to recreate your slideshow in NXT $ Videowave, output to an actual video file, launch myDVD and then add that video file.

In my opinion I would return that version of NXT 4, get a refund and see if you can find a copy of NXT 3. At least that version has a proper myDVD program.

It would have been nice to know that they have changed the myDVD program before I purchased this product! all previous versions worked the same. So i guess i need to start from scratch and create a new project. when i do this i still do not see any transition images, just blank boxes with a question marks ("?") instead of an image. is something not installed correctly (i've only installed it three times so far)? Thanks

Roxio 2010 does work in Windows 8 because i used it over this past summer without any problems. As for the "?" marks they appear for all 200 transactions. I do not get the typical photos showing what the transactions look like I just a "?" for all of them instead. When I preview the slideshow the transactions work, but in the storyline mode all of the transactions are shown as a "?".

I have a note about that but of course it is from the time of OS's from Win 7 and before. If you want to try it, set a Restore Point before you do, so if it is a bust, you can go back ;)

Question Marks for Transitions & Unable to load skin:

MSXML4 SP3 ~ use the msxml.msi to install it: HERE

Upgraded from Creator 12 to NXT4. I am getting the impression I have to go back to Creator 12 and export all my video and slideshow files in video format before I can use NXT4. This would been nice to know before wasting a lot of time. Is this my best option?

Correct...

The VideoWave in NXT 4 will open projects from earlier versions but while there are place holders for them, special effects won't work. (you can add new ones)

And MyDVD in NXT 4 will not open anything but video files and pictures along with its' own 'xxx.MyDVD' project files.

Keep in mind you have jumped ahead 4 versions of software. A lot of software is not going to support a jump that big -_-
